IGN: I haven't been able to put Horizon down, so I dissect what makes the game so darn addictive.
I couldn't agree more. Just the act of playing HZD and taking down the machines feels so good. It also helps that the world is an extreme joy to explore.
The music is what also makes it addictive. I just fight Thunderjaws and Stormbirds just to hear the heart pumping soundtrack, which makes me so happy I got a surround system before the game came
Yeah I agree, the music is absolutely phenomenal. The main theme gives me chills everytime I listen to it.
I dont understand this popularity with Soundbars at the moment. How can you game without surround sound?
If you have a PS4, you need to treat yourself to this work of art. You owe it to yourself. Thank you GG.
I actually have both surround sound and a sound bar on my set up and I barely use surround sound anymore. My sound bar is a cheap Vizio model and it's pretty damn impressive, and for more emersion I use the PS headset,w whichis great.
Getting a decent 5.1 system was so much better than going to 4k hdr.
I got the Platinum on it a while ago and just booted it up again yesterday and started a new game for the first time after completing it. I'm just mostly hunting and messing around in the world right now, it really is a good game and I can't wait to see how they expand on it.
One of the easiest Platinums to get.
My point was that it's still a pleasure to play even after getting the Platinum, not how difficult the trophy was. I don't care about trophies, this and Bloodborne are the only two games I've got a Platinum on and the only reason I bothered was because I enjoy the games so much that I wanted to do everything in them.
I wasn't meaning that it was easy in a negative way, just saying that it was easy. I don't typically care about trophies so when I was finished playing the game and realized I only needed one more trophy (the one where you have to destroy the practice targets), I was pleasantly surprised. The way the trophies are set up in the game is great in my opinion.
I agree, and I agreed to your first post too. It is cool how it's set up, I still had flowers and statues to find after I beat it. I also had to get all the full suns at the hunting grounds so I thought it was cool how it plopped you back before the final mission to tie up loose ends even after beating the game.
I wasn't trying to be argumentative in my original reply either, sometimes context gets lost in text. Lol
For me, it's the feeling of being a badass when you take down one of the biggies!
So AMAZING!! O_O
Wow, incredible!! Guerrilla needs to hire this dude!!!!!
He actually is being flown out to GG studio
That's awesome to hear, congrats to him
Hire him for what? Playing the game?
Why? What is going on here? I went to his page and all I see are gifs and vids of clips of him playing the game. Are you suggesting that playing the game is a skill GG needs? I platinum'd the game, it was easy, where's my flight to Amsterdam?
It's just that damn good.
man good thing i haven't even beat the game yet i get to try it out on my platinum headset with the 3d audio but there is just too man good games out on ps4 that i got to finish playin which is nioh, nier automata, and persona 5 also and keep up my skill on bf1 it's real hard to juggle all these games.
The game feels so smooth and the world is just beautiful! I can't wait for DLC to see what new Machines are being worked on! Aloy is one of my favorite PS characters
My top 5
1 Nathan Drake
As in McGrath? Nice choice. We need him back. Too bad SP is working on Spiderman instead of Infamous.
No, they aren't. You are thinking about Insomniac. SP is working most likely on a new IP
Buddy how educated are you on the game industry?
Where did you read Sucker Punch was working on Spider-Man? I mean do you read at all?
Folks... This is what you get for reading titles ONLY. Read articles people please it's not that hard to educate yourself on just the base topic.
Oh right, my bad. I don't know why I thought that.
@EDMIX: Look at all of that unnecessary fluff you had to insert in your comment. Compare your comment to ps3vita4life. Learn what being succinct means and then STFU because no one cares what you have to say anyway.
Yes Cole McGrath and you mean insomanic is working on Spider-man SP is working on a new Western IP.
Horizon and Zelda is the best console and exclusive games that's out right now! TBH both of these games are better than every multiplatform and third-party game that's out right now.
Well where do I start. Very fluid and intuitive gameplay, lifelike world brought to life with amazing visuals, interesting story, great voice acting...
It is one of those few once in a gen games. Such a joy to play.
Great voice acting is debatable.
I'm gonna start the game end of this week.
You are in for a treat.
Same here. I'm on vanilla ps4 and I can't get over how good it looks, and runs. The battles are intense
Felt the exact same way. Platinum it and moved on to Zelda.
Zelda on the other hand is alright. I'm definitely playing it differently than anyone else, I basically just went around the map discovering the towers and now moved on to doing as many shrines... I think I've played 20 hours and probably only killed 20 enemies. Lol! I just run around, dodge and move on. I can see why some enjoy it, but I find I have to put my brain on dumb just to appreciate it all...
I wish I left things to do in Horizon, because I'm dying to go back. The story dlc can't come soon enough.
Feel the same as you do just vice versa. I thought Horizon was a decent little game, but the combat is just alright and the story feels like it was written by Ubisoft. With no soul or interesting characters. Although BoTW story wasnt good either, the world building in BoTW trumps Horizon
What world building? There's no consequences in Zelda. I run around everywhere not killing anyone and every blood moon a cutscene showing a bunch of enemies coming back to life... I never killed any enemies how are they coming back to life?
I seriously doubt you've played Horizon (or player way to many Ubisoft games) Running around in Horizon feels lively and exciting. The combat is excellent and a total joy with a real sense of accomplishment. I personally loved the story. The world is alive in horizon, compared to a pop in bland world of Zelda.
Zelda on the other hand with its weapon system, I just don't use them since I know they'll just break. Playing The last of us on the hardest difficulty trained me to play games without using any ammo or weapons. So I used the same tactics in Zelda.
Yes Zelda let's you run around everywhere, but pop ins ruin it... Just walking around you can see the texture pop ins almost at arms length. You can't strategies like in Horizon since you cant see enemies unless you're really close. I was chasing a horse down in Zelda and it kept popping in & out since it was just at the edge of what the games let's you see.
I'm still playing Zelda and will definitely finish it, but I suggest you actually give Horizon and real chance since you're only going to do yourself a disservice.
I have played Horizon and beaten it. 44% trophies completed. And thats all I feel I need to see.
And I guess the reason I like Zeldas world better is because I ran into more memorable random encounters. Horizon really doesnt have any great random encounters.
PS fans like myself are championing Horizon when in my opinion they should be talking about Nier, NioH, and Persona 5 which are all better games.
Don't ever compare john Gonzalez who wrote fallout new vegas and now horizons story to some Ubisoft trash. The world was def more interesting in horizon imo as well as the combat being a ton better. There were plenty of interesting characters like Sylens, rost,Avad the sun king, erend to name just a few whereas in botw there was really no one worth remembering
All those games you named are completely different from horizon and the only one I would say is objectively better than horizon is Persona 5 and just barely
Well I didnt like Fallout New Vegas either so I guess I dont like John Gonzalez. And the combat systems in Nioh and Nier crush Horizons combat and the story of Persona 5 is leagues better than Horizons story
You can't stop playing the game because is simply awesome in every way. Game is really addictive, i'm 60 hours in and still have more to do and see. Really don't want this game to end, it's easily one of the best games this gen.
I have it but booted it up for a couple of minutes, saving it for when I'm on my 3 1/2 month vac from work next month.
Cause its a great game.
to me it was an ok experience. at the time I played it I was so impressed with yakuza 0 and nioh that the combat system in horizon, which people praise a lot, seemed to be very low quality to me. storytelling? yakuza does a very good job. challenge? nioh (at least until you discover some tricks). graphics in horizon are great, exploration is ok and the story didn't impress me.
i dont really see how i could come back to horizon, it wasn't that great for me and mainly because i had games that impressed me more few weeks prior to it's release. maybe if the gap was bigger i could have enjoyed it more. i dont know if it happens to you guys as well.
Because it's awesome.. The combat is just so damn engaging... oh yeah and it's drop dead gorgeous.
The only two games that had more of an impact on me via fun or story were The Witcher 3 and The Last of Us. Zelda is right there with Horizon, and P5 is close.
More to the point of this article, The Witcher and P5 need time to get into for a gaming session, and TLOU needs some sustained time per level to get to a save.
Horizon and Zelda can just be popped in to, do whatever you want, have a blast, make progress in a variety of ways, and then save and quit. Amazing design in that regard, on top of everything else they do well.
