We got us a key. We played the beta. Found out what we thought of it after the break.
I'd like it better if I had a key...
there so f'ing negative all the time. This article is very boring to read so save your time and go watch dawsons creek.. Anyway i cant wait to play this game.. Looks different and fresh..
So if it said it was brilliant and it didn't have any faults you'd think it was a good article. The fact that it's honest and tries to give a balanced opinion pointing out both the negatives and the positives makes it boring? Riiiight.
After playing the beta, I can say that I relate to the depth problem. It is a 2d but you have 3 areas along the z plane to occupy. I found that there are a lot of times when you want to jump on something in front of you but you end up jumping on something parallel to that object...Hard to explain. That is probably the only negative thing I can say about the game. I didn't find any lag in button response...and like the article states, this beta is based on an early build so it is only going to get better (if possible)! PS...this game is incredibly addicting as it will invade your thoughts while you sleep and while you are at work!
@Mr Bun: It've done that to me already.
Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor Poor... DROIDS!
Too bad you don't have access to a PS3 or you could be playing amazing games instead of wasting your time emphasizing that you can't afford one.
He is right poor poor me. I played this BETA, I repeat... BETA for Six or seven hours straight last night. I can tell you this game is a masterpiece and is truly addicting. I kept going through peoples boards playing and it really gives you the impression that this game is ENDLESS. I played Coop locally most of the night and me and my friend had a BLAST. I am 29 yrs old and I can confirm this game goes well beyond the "kiddie game" it has been labeled. Sony has secured an exclusive that will prove to be the new face of the PS brand. After seeing the boards made after 1 day of them demo being out, I am very excited to see what ideas people will come up with for the full version of the game. I absolutely LOVE this game. I was unimpressed at first, but now this game is a first day buy for me...... HATE ON HATERS! PS - The controls are solid... this guy is a tool.
I have the beta too and the game kicks. I spent the entire night last night making my own level. There is so much to do that I don't know if I will ever finish it. I am 31 and you are right..."well beyond kiddie game"! What is funny is that the only people who are claiming this game to be childish are the ones who are anit-Sony. I agree that the controls are solid!
Leaves me wanting to see it for myself. Saying the controls are clunky and unresponsive is a relative thing to say. People feel for controls differently and this guy might not have the feel for platformers and others might. I have seen way too many videos of this game to truly take this articles negativity to heart and have to say that I want this game for myself. Even if there is a learning curve, I want it for the community and creation values.
This guy above, Vanderbeek (has he even played it?) slams this article for being even mildly critical, and then he gets 3 agrees. I think this game always seemed like it was going to be s*** in the end. I watched all the videos, read all the previews and I still did. The idea sounds nice, but the game is quite obviously not going to be perfect for a number of reasons. And it's now nice to have someone (in the form of ths article) bring a refreshing change to all the fawning and sucking up going on over the level creator. It'd be very wise to take your rose-tinted glasses off before you buy this game; this loyalty to brand is laughable. No one's impressed by sheep.
Yes but all the players' impressions I've seen have been OVERWHELMINGLY positive. "Perfection" is something that can never be achieved. They complained that the levels were a bit slow paced, which is to be expected since they are the first, easiest levels in the game. I've not heard anything bad about the depth system - they complained that you sometimes can't move in and out of the screen but I can only presume that's because there wasn't enough space for them to. And I seriously doubt that the actions on-screen occur a while after you've pressed a button, but this could be a slight annoyance. Nothing major, though. Plus, it's the beta which MM have said themselves is from an old build and all the network features have got an upgrade including 5-star ratings and improved stability.
I'm not arguing that this WILL be s***. If it's good I'll get it; I doubt it will be though. All I'm saying is keep and open mind.
Come on, why so negative! Even this hands-on preview was quite positive, I was just noting the flaws they mentioned. They said they "quite like" the game. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't think it will be a good game. The worst I've seen from people who have played it is along the lines of "Yeah, it's good, but it's not amazing like everyone says. I'll give it another go, I've not tried out ___ mode yet." Co-op is going to be a blast!
I think James Vanderplonk is a little upset as all thats been touted on this website all year is how the ps3 will own this year and how the exclusive line up is far better than the competition, and as the site hasnt basically said how awesome the game is, i think he is finding hard to understand the concept that all those people may have been wrong all the time and are going to look like eejots Edit: I am not saying this is going to happen, its just my opinion as to why there will be negative repsonses to this article
The way you're complaining about it makes me think you're one too. Don't get frustrated by it; he doesn't own an X360 (no matter how much he lies and says the opposite) and doesn't want his investment to be overshadowed. Childish, and downright unintelligent, behaviour like that is to be pitied.
ive been playing this game for hours now and i can tell you it rocks. about the z plane what would you prefer it do auto move you to the right z plane yeah right then you would whine about that just accept it like good gamers do and learn to live with the problem i don't think of it as a problem myself have no problem with it at all. as for designing levels you should first design the basic layout for your levels on paper first which would make it easier in the editor or just use templates and adjust things as you go along also about the user created levels i agree many are short and simple at the moment but they are still fun to play. ps anyone out there who has not got a ps3 i suggest you buy one for this game alone it is well worth it :)
what about the "delay" that they talk about between the press of the button and the movement of sackboy? do the controls feel a bit too loose?
Soren, there is no delay, the sackboy does not jump like Mario, obviously they are different games, sackboy makes floaty jumps, btw some people forgets that the longer you press x the more time sackboy will stay on the air, it is a matter of to get used to it, and again sackboy is not Mr Mario(ya i like Mario too just in case), they are made of different materials too :)
Yes they may seem a bit picky, but the only thing i could see they really cared about was the controls being a bit clunky - and i agree with that - especially in the create mode, i found myself nearly throwing the controller at the screen due to the amount of times i accidently pressed one of the undo, pause play button just because usually they're used for different things. And no ^^ i can't find any delay in the controls - just moving backwards and forwards between the 3 layers of the platform a bit annoying sometimes. No game is perfect, not even littlebigplanet - you can't judge it too harshly on some dodgy controls that can easily be ignored. Other than that, it is a very, very FUN game. Its the sort of game we have been lacking for a good few years. Anyway, i found someones level yesterday on littlebigplanet and it was called "Xbox 360 button" and it had some bubble pop up telling you to go press this button, then there was this picture of an xbox 360 and loads of red rings fell down when you pressed the button :P then if you ran along a bit more there is a picture of the man who made the level and a picture of a ps3 saying "Playstation 3 = Happy gamers", this guy looked like 30 - 35 too. I'm not trying to start anything on the actual message of the level just the fact that it proves, you don't have to make levels with any real objective for them to be fun, making silly little things like that is just as good.
Is also, amazing. I've had my sister playing with me since i got the beta, just turn on a controller select a profile & psn you want to use for that and another sackboy comes up, you can customise that and it will save it to that profile and you can go online with other people playing offline too. Having my sister hold back the competition in the race for me to run ahead and win it then hearing these grown men laughing so hard down their microphone is just a great thing to hear. In a way i do wish this was a mutliplatform game for more people to experience it, but i do think the playstation 3 deserves a mascot and sackboy should be it.
don't listen to that review! there is only one problem that he mentioned that is legit: it is sometimes frustrating to move from one plain to the other, but most times this works just fine... if someone gave you a porche, would you complain that there was a small scratch on the front bumper? it's that insignificant
