EA Sued Over Spore DRM

Several disgruntled Spore owners have banded together to file a class-action lawsuit against Electronic Arts, claiming that the game installs software onto the machine that cannot be removed (even after uninstalling the game) and can actually effect the performance of your computer's Operating System.

Good for them. Installing DRM management tools on your PC WITHOUT prompting you first SHOULD be illegal.

If I installed something on someone elses PC that checks their system without their consent I would be breaking the law. Why should a company like EA get away with it?

This is why I don't play many PC games. It's unfortunate that customers have to do this just to play games. What's funny is that I hear there's still pirated copies out there. I just hope that Diablo 3 doesn't have some outrageous DRM.

Why do companies need to reinvent the wheel with DRM?

Use the same DRM system as Valve and you will sell more copies.

People are taking this too far. The game's been out for about two weeks, and all you hear online anymore are complaints about DRM.

Really.. have you actually found it necessary to install the game more than five times (they increased it from three) in two weeks? If you have (why!?), were you too lazy to pick up the phone and activate it that way?

I've needed to activate Windows XP once via phone after several installations, and there was very little hassle involved. People are just giving into the mob mentality of excessive whining.

Uninstall should remove everything that was installed.

That's why there is uninstall. So you can remove something you installed. What basis does having that DRM on your system if the game it's there for isn't installed anymore.

It sounds like the concept of having unsafe interaction with your PC is common, install and run anything. If something screws up you just reinstall.

Not everyone is willing to waste time doing this every time some company decides they want to install a back door program in their product. It cost me time and money every time I re-install an OS from nothing. People like myself tweek our OS. I really hate finding out that I installed something that won't uninstall, especially if it slows my system down or crashs it!

To me this is like a farm branding cows with fire irons just so they can eat fresh grass on the other side of the bridge. It's a Trojan horse product that installs a separate software and uses the coolness of main product to trick people into allowing it.

Despite the users willingly installing the software it's like the Trojans willingly dragging the wooden horse through the gates. Only to realize they let something bad inside. Once it gets in it never wants to leave even if you remove the reason for it being in there.
