After Zelda And Persona 5, 2017 Games Have A Tough Act To Follow

GameRevolution: "With today’s torrent of overwhelmingly positive reviews of Atlus’ long-gestating JRPG megaton Persona 5, and our own review awarding similar praise, it’s clear that 2017’s status as a stellar year for games has already been cemented. This despite the fact that it’s not even the end of March yet, and that there’s a whole lot more where that came from, including the recently announced Destiny 2."

2017 could be a banner year with all these great hits releasing.

novacav2582d ago

Seriously. GotY talks ought to be a real smackdown.

SardoNumspa2582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

I can't think of any year going all the way back to the Atari 2600 fourty years ago that had anything close to the amount amazing games being released for a single console like the PS4 in 2017.

SardoNumspa2582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

So far the PS4 has had in 2017:

* Horizon Zero Dawn
* Yakuza Zero
* Nier
* Gravity Rush 2
* Nioh

The PS4 still has in 2017:

* GT Sport
* Final Fantasy XII Remaster
* Persona 5
* Wipeout
* Crash Bandicoot
* Ni No Kuni 2
* Dragon Quest Heroes II
* Detroit Become Human - maybe
* Nex Machina
* Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - looks kind of meh
* Pyre

Days Gone is rumored to be late 2017. And Yakuza 6 coming in early 2018.

And this is all before Sony's E3 annoucements.

It shouldn't surprise anyone the PS4 is selling as fast as the 155 million selling top console of all time the PS2.

gangsta_red2582d ago

I remember the SNES launch titles having the same amount of amazing titles that blew me away. Super Castlevania, Super Ghouls N Ghosts, Super Mario World, just to name a few, I seriously thought video games couldn't get better from there.

Wallstreet372582d ago

Gangsta...
Snes had so many good games, that's not a lie.

showtimefolks2582d ago

SardoNumspa

yakuza kiwami coming later his year too

S2Killinit2582d ago

Dont forget FarPoint, Ace Combat 7, Shenmue (possibly), FF7, etc

rainslacker2581d ago

@gangsta

And surprisingly, that was the slow time for SNES. That system got tons of amazing games every year it was Nintendo's primary system.

Japanese devs are kicking ass in the last 6 months.

Zelda, Persona 5, Nioh, Nier, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy and more. We still have many on the way from them this gen too. Dragon Quest, Sonic, Mario, Ni No Kuni 2, and probably three of the most anticipated releases for many years, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy VII remake and Shenmue 3.

Japanese developers have always been my favourite and when they get it right, they REALLY get it right. The only thing that could possibly make it any better is if we got a proper Phantasy Star game released outside of Asia.

I honestly feel that when people look back, they will remember this as one of the best periods for game releases of all time. It's like gaming has come full circle, Japanese developers are on top again.

wonderfulmonkeyman2582d ago

Agreed. Especially if you're into action-adventures and RPG's; Switch is getting its fair share of both, and I'm really looking forward to that upcoming Tales Of title that's in the works for it.

Neonridr2582d ago

lots of great titles coming for both PS4 and Switch. MS needs to step it up over the second half of the year or they are going to get left behind..

S2Killinit2582d ago

give me Shenmue or give me death. lol man jokes aside, Shenmue FTW

DarkOcelet2582d ago

I think Shenmue 1 and 2 Remaster will be announced for pc and ps4 at E3 this year to make the wait for Shenmue 3 easier.

S2Killinit2582d ago

Ohh I hope so. Why you gotta tease me like that Dark?

novacav2582d ago

Seems reasonable I'd gladly grab 'em. I was too young in the Dreamcast days to really appreciate.

RDF2582d ago

Don't tease me like that.

gangsta_red2582d ago

I wish Shenmue remastered would release then people could realize just how crappy those two games were.

S2Killinit2582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

@gangster-red
Are you kidding? The original Shenmue felt like you were literallly there in a Japanes village. No game has ever done that to me. The level of immersion in Shenmue, I havent even had that happen in VR. Your comment is like blasphemy to me. Lol

rainslacker2581d ago

Sega sent out that survey to ask if people would be interested, so there is a possibility that they are at least looking into making a remaster. There was a rumor a while back they actually had a S1/2 remaster, but scrapped it's release before it was completed.

So, who knows. Sega would be dumb not to capitalize on the S3 hype that's likely to start building as S3 gets shown off more and gets closer to release.

I like that Shenmue is the image for this article, but it probably won't come out this year.

itBourne2582d ago

Not probably, it most certainly wont...

SegaGamer2582d ago

I agree, i just can't see Shenmue getting a 2017 release. It's still in heavy development from what i can tell, it's got a while yet before it get's released.

georeo2582d ago

That's fine... we wait all this time for it, we can wait longer lol. But least we know shenmue 3 is coming

S2Killinit2582d ago

Georeo
Couldnt have said it better. If you told me gaming was going to stop forever tomorrow, I would have said a fitting end would be the release of Shenmue 3....

Pantz2582d ago

It doesn't matter how good or bad Shenmue III is. It's a dream game that was never going to happen. It's existence is more than enough.

scorpio_20492582d ago

I do not care whether Shenmue 3 is a good or bad game. I only care we're finally getting some more story.

Ok, I do want the game to be good but I'm just so glad we're finally seeing some progress with the plot. It's such an unresolved part of my life. I've had no closure and it feels so weird to go through life without closure for something so trivial but somehow important to me.

SegaGamer2582d ago

Honestly, they could copy the graphics of the Dreamcast games and have the same issues ( if you want to call them that ) that they had back then, i don't care, i would still love it. It's Shenmue.

Shenmue is the game that made the impossible possible. The game nobody thought would ever happen. It gives people hope of any forgotten game to one day make a return.
