NieR: Automata Director Yoko Taro dreams of a PS Vita successor to fill a gap that smartphones cannot.
What would the selling point even be for a Vita successor
Oh i dunno... Maybe exclusive sony games?
That didn't help the Vita in the long run
Long run? They gave up on it pretty early. It's not getting the love it deserves, not like the PSP anyway.
Vita had no God of War,Syphon Filter,Gran Turismo or 3rd party giants like Final Fantasy,Monster Hunter or GTA. Sony left it to die
The memory cards were the problem, not the games
No overpriced memory card and allow third party Memory card. A GTA game.
It would have to be a hybrid.
I was thinking an optional add on? Kinda like a play anywhere device? But then it's too expensive. Idk I would prefer them to focus on ps4 and vr.
Would have to have games for the typical Western Market (shooters, racing), exclusives, low price for memory cards and have full DS4 controller support if they want it to succeed. They got off to a great start with the Vita with games like Wipeout 2048 and Uncharted and I would have bought one but they stopped making games I was interested in playing. I have 0 interest in playing JRPGs, indies and multi platform games on the Vita. Why would I buy a game like MLB the Show or Borderlands for my Vita when I can play on my PS4 Pro or gaming PC?? I have 0 time when Im on the go so I would only be playing at home. Rather play on my 50" TV or 24" gaming montior than on a 5" screen.
So in other words, you are looking for western exclusive game then?
No more proprietary memory cards. Maybe the addition of L2/R2 buttons/triggers. More simplified UI. Separate GAME and SAVE files from each other. Update Wi-fi to use the latest standard(s). Bring more PS1/PSP games to Vita. More first party support.
The UI is pretty simple as is.
Oh... I meant like. Hmmm, how do I explain it. Probably I'm too used to PSP/PS4, but having things listed from left to right just felt more... "normal". I don't like having to flip up and down on the pages to get to icons, and I've tried to put things into "stacked bubbles", but you can only fit so much into those. It's not that big of a deal, but more of a personal issue, I guess, lol.
Yup, I mean PS4 uses regular HDDs, why can't they have the same security for Micro SD? Maybe they can make the successor a little bulkier to add more buttons. UI is okay as it is. Cant really think of anything to improve it but there is probably improvements to be made. I agree, I deleted a few games to make space and found out i lost my long saves :(. 5ghz AC and more powerful TX/RX, yes please, remote play sucks in a couple of my rooms. I thought most ps1/psp games were supported. hmm. Yes, they need big hitters from first parties. No one wants shoddy ports from PS4/PC.. we want so ground up exclusives that will want us to buy the handheld.
if i could get a game like Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, or Vanquish (like seriously i need more Vanquish in my life) on a handheld...if only Kreygasm. Would also like a dock for it (ala Switch) so i could out to a monitor/tv with addition usb ports AND A LAN port, but is not necessary could be an accessory imo as it should be a handheld first. All usb-c for data transfer, charging, and display output. no more proprietary port. no more proprietary, overpriced memcards. would drop $249 in a heartbeat personally
Why would you need a dock? Just put an HDMI on it and make it so it pairs with a dual shock.
dock would be for other things like more usb ports and a LAN port for a wired connection. But yeah its not really needed i just think it would be cool haha. You don't need to add an HDMI port on it if it has USB type C port and sony allows video out from it. that one port can do it all. charge, transfer data, display output, etc.
Could definitely market it to combat the Switch even. How awesome would it be if Sony hit us with a Vita successor at E3? I'd sh** my friggin pants.
I would worry that's too many devices to support again. Unless all ps4 titles could be played in it with lower rez/ one purchase. ( not remote play). I just don't think they should anymore. But u would be happy if they did.
To compete with switch
I love how people say the vita is dead. It doesn't have games they want, so it's dead. I guess xbone and switch are dead too, since it doesn't have games I want on it. The reality is that the vita has been pumping out more games in the last three years than Nintendo and Microsoft. It's great that developers still give it it's proper respect.
mikeslemonade will definitely troll that on this site. :/
that would be excellent
So what's the old successor?
Sony will probably wait and see how it pans out with Switch, and if it succeeds well enough, Sony might design a Switch-like hybrid of their own that's more powerful. I'd be on board with that if they support it properly.
At least a 720p screen, preferably 1080p. R2/L2/E3/L3, RemotePlay, SharePlay, playing games on TV using the PS4 like RemotePlay but to the PS4 while using the Vita 2 as a controller so all games can be played that way. Vita 1 and PSP compatibility and of course games!
I really want a new PlayStation Handheld or hybrid too. I think they have to avoid any weird announcements like "3g Broadband Network with AT&T." That got an audible "boo" from the crowd back then.
