The Last of Us' storytelling may never have been innovative, but it is still emotionally impactful through both gameplay and cutscene.
"The Game Music Foundation are today very proud and pleased to announce an additional concert, circling back to the roots of Game Muisic Festival in Poland. On April 28th, 2024, the National Forum of Music in Wroclaw will once again become a place to celebrate the art of video game music, featuring scores from The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II." - The Game Music Foundation.
Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."
They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.
The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.
All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.
What a waste of time and money, what a shame.
Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.
TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…
This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
I thought it was a pretty solid story. Loved Winter.
It's impactful because the gameplay is the cutscenes. Why hasn't anyone else tried this masterful storytelling? Because they are trying to make games, not movies.
Any writer could write a movie script and play it out on cinematic rails. To make an actual game with great writing, now that's special and very difficult to do.
TBH.... I don't consider it the peak of story-telling. Maybe it's a good story, but there is nothing apart from cut scenes and that is the reason why classics like Deus Ex, System Shock etc will remain classics. They integrated narrative into gameplay. Most of today's games integrate narrative into cut scenes.
What made TLOU so great was the package, IMO. The environmental story-telling in that game is very underrated and undertones that the items and sub-stories (Ish's story) give the game are very impressive, to me. They're not long drawn out cards I need to read or long-winded tapes I need to play... they're simply part of the world I am passing through.
The voice-acting is amazing and really helps the character development(s) and interactions. The way the game is written and made so that you play through the irony of killing all the humans to proceed whilst ideally sneaking past the zombies to proceed.
Which eventually (SPOILERS).................... ............................... ............................... ............................... ............ culminates with Joel killing the very people attempting to cure the disease for humanity. His reasons and the altruistic nature, or lack thereof, is something gamers could still debate today. I understand why all parties involved in the story did what they did. I understood why Ellie rescues and saves Joel, I understand why Joel loves Ellie, and I understand why Joel ultimately chooses the end he chooses.
Not to mention "Left Behind" which put EVEN MORE context and depth to Ellie. Showing how she had seemingly lost her friend, her partner, her soul-mate and thus pushed her towards probably WANTING to give her life to hope to save humanity from the thing that took something she loved from her.
My game of forever and I loved every bit of it. I can't wait for part 2. I also put in massive hours into online which I loved.
