So in general this is a more enjoyable RPG than its Square-Enix stable mate. The more time you spend with it, the more charming it gets and the more obsessed you become with completing one more tale, then the next, and seeing how it all comes together. For all its dated gameplay and a few isolated complaints – does the first stretch of the merchant's tale have to labour how dull the storekeeper's life is quite so endlessly? – it's a brilliantly absorbing RPG. Final Fantasy IV delivers the bigger, more sweepingly epic experience.
