So the X1 is at 26 million. Interesting

Overload2646d ago (Edited 2646d ago )

Yep at maximum. It is also now tracking behind the 360 by around 2M.

"Microsoft sold 28 million Xbox 360s by end of 2008"
http://www.reuters.com/arti...

darthv722646d ago

Was that before or after RROD started happening? Cause we all know a replacement unit still counts towards the overall total.

In all honesty, the XB1 would be tracking ahead of the 360 given the whole RROD situation and the xb1 not having anything like that this time around.

GamerGT2646d ago

@Overload
And with Scorpio income we can almost expect a sharp decline this year. We shall see.

Letthewookiewin2646d ago (Edited 2646d ago )

But, but the PS4 is sold in more territories! Like Tangier, and Zimbabwe that's totally the reason it's selling moar!

Wow, so even with double the install base and TGL couldn't double sales of DR4. Interesting.

Well, last time when MS said that Xbone is outpacing X360 was a year ago ( January 2016 ). In same time-frame X360 was at 17.7 mil. shipped.

http://news.xbox.com/2016/0...

Now, this year when you comparing Xbone sales with x360 in same-time frame, X360 sold 28 mil. consoles. MS didn't said anything about outpacing X360 for a year now. Logic sense it is below X360 WW.

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

I'm pretty sure that in next MS quarter reports Xbone sales will be down.

G20WLY2646d ago

Or more likely they avoid the subject..

Chevalier2646d ago

Not necessarily. It says that PS4 sold more than double Xbox One. It could be 55 million PS4 and 23 million XB1 for all we know.

Like the PSVR numbers? I see your point. /sarcasm

Even if MS isn't ahead of 360 right now, you may recall the strong sales XB1 had during the last half of 2016. That was in spite of the fact that the Pro released and MS announced Scorpio for those who'd prefer to wait for it. Sounds like success to me, just not the most success.

I'll put it this way, you don't have to be Floyd Maywether to be considered a successful boxer.

Edit: Would you consider the PS3 a failure since it didn't outsell the PS2?

Last I heard, it's outselling Rift and Vive.

UCForce2646d ago

Don't try to spin it. Because sales do matter for both companies.

tyasia02646d ago

@TheCommentator

What are you on about now?

PSVR and consoles are not the same thing. Most companies don't share peripheral numbers. When was the last time Microsoft shared Kinect sales? Don't kid yourself Microsoft not sharing console sales is not the same as Sony not sharing PSVR sales and the only reason you bring it up is to try to downplay Microsofts situation.

On top of that NPD doesn't track peripherals VGChartz doesn't track them and the few VR tracking firms that do have said it's selling better than the other VR units.

So until Microsoft comes out with their own VR and actually shares numbers you should probably just let it go.

leoms2646d ago

Yeah compare a product that has been on the market for alomost 4 years to a product out for almost 4 months. Logic.

medman2646d ago Show

Leoms, Sony also did it with the PS3 when they were behind. Logic indeed.

Edit: I already acknowledged that PS4 outsold XB1, medman. I said XB1 is selling better than they ever have before. Gimme a break.

Chevalier2646d ago

The PS Pro outsold every Xbox Sku during the year in the 2 months it was released and only got outsold by the Slim PS4 and old COD bundle. Just think how bad those sales have to be for a system only 2 months of sales to beat every Sku on Xbox.

Dark_Knightmare22646d ago

To answer your PS3 question hell no since the ps2 is the best selling home console of all time and PS3 was never going to repeat that success

Christopher2645d ago

***Hypocrisy is very strong with you guys.***

That's something both sides of this stupid argument have in common, actually.

TheCommentator2645d ago (Edited 2645d ago )

Christopher, my initial statement was simply pointing out the immediate error in Corroios' comment in a sarcastic way, which I even stated as such in the post. But I then gave a reason for my opinion, an anology to compare it to, and an example of MS' competitor doing exactly what he jabbed MS for. No personal attacks at that point, just a difference of opinion, and yet I get called names and harrassed by everyone else in return.

These people started attacking me instead of the topic Corroios started and it was allowed to go on for a whole day. You said to me before, "Attack the subject, not the individual," right? As I pointed out, that's what I'd done before everyone swarmed on me. These guys need to stop with personal attacks and debate like real people and I will reciprocate, but you know I also fight back when people start to push as well...

I was trying to keep on subject, really. Sorry Christopher. Obviously, it's frustrating when a comment eventually labelled inappropriate has nearly 50 agrees.

Edit: I'm not trying to get personal here, so don't take this as an insult, but you know what I find ironic about your post? The fact that your comment makes you a hypocrite too for not attacking the subject when you posted. Welcome to the club, Christopher, nobody's perfect!

So is there a huge problem with the PS3? Because I remember MS announced 84 million sales a month later Sony hid PS3 and Vita numbers by saying they sold a combined total of 100million PS4 PS3 and vita but announced 10million PS4 weeks later....hmmmm huge problems hiding those PS3 and Vita numbers I gues

you're comment doesn't really make sense as your comment is not actually based in relevancy.

Really you are comparing that. Try harder.

The PS3 had huge problems because of the price and was launched a year later then the 360, but still sold tons.

The Xbox one isnt even selling like the 360 and thats one of the things they are trying to hide, beside being crushed worldwide every month since day one...

Why o why2646d ago

when facts cant help your argument ...

talk some **** about some irrelevant ****

Sony were pretty much clear on their numbers... Its how we knew the gap that started at around 9+ million due to the headstart evaporated. Sony was selling more worldwide consistently and at a higher price for most of the generation ...Bitter pill I know

Sunny_D2646d ago

Except for the fact that PS3 is at 87 million and 360 is at 86 million.

https://www.finder.com.au/1...

Kribwalker2646d ago

@Corro
If they were up front with their numbers why would they show a combined number after ms announced 84million? What were they hiding?

@sunny

Look at the source for the article. It's VGchartz. The last official numbers from Sony on the PS3 was 80 million one month after the 360 hit 80 million. Then they hid then with PS4 and Vita 8 months later, a month after the 360 hit 84 million

Skillz12152646d ago

what are you even taking about?

Chevalier2645d ago

@Krib

Seriously what the hell are you on about. Where's the Xbox numbers? They're literally so bad MS knew it would put them under a bad light so they stopped giving numbers at all. Why else would they only discuss customer engagement and other stupid metrics?

Your whole side argument about the PS3 is literally a pointless rant that fits your narrative, but, has nothing to do with the subject at hand. We are talking about PS4 destroying Xbox One sales. Stick to the topic at hand.

At this point you are just embarassing yourself with you factless salty rants.

Kribwalker2645d ago

@chevalier
If you say there is a huge problem because MS is hiding the numbers, how is that different then Sony hiding the PSVR numbers, or the Vita numbers, or the PS3 numbers after MS announced the 84million. Your double standards here are ridiculous.

Chevalier2644d ago

" If you say there is a huge problem because MS is hiding the numbers, how is that different then Sony hiding the PSVR numbers, or the Vita numbers, or the PS3 numbers after MS announced the 84million. Your double standards here are ridiculous."

Wow what a stretch. Keep moving goalpost onto side arguments that are unrelated!

I will answer your absolutely dumb questions. First I will remind you fellow Canadian I work at EB Games and have for 8 years so let's not pretend you have more info than me.

http://pixelvulture.com/201...

Our stores haven't recieved new PS3 or Xbox 360 stock in pretty much 2 years. That's 2015 if you don't know math. So what reason would Sony or MS have to uodate you on what is now a legacy system?

Vita's we haven't received new stock in almost a year. It is effectively only alive in Europe and Asia. Telling a North American outlets sales is pointless. They're no longer on sale here.

As for PSVR. It is an accessory! When is the last time you heard an accessory being tracked? Do you know how many Xbox Elite controllers were sold? Headsets? Adaptors? Wiimotes? PS4 dualshock? Right you don't. Also where are the regular updates for Vive and Oculus which have been out for over a year? Last update was Vive sold 140,000 October 2016.

If Vive and Oculus are giving such irregular updates why should Sony be any different? It's not hardware.

What I always wonder....

On one hand they say that games/subscriptions are the actual money maker. With this said you'd think a console would want to ride it's massive console install size as long as possible....more consoles buying more games...

On the other hand the faster you reach market saturation on the console the sooner you'll run out of room to grow.

So with this how would one determine the right time for a new console is right?

Overload2646d ago

How people become MAU's is buying consoles, so everything after that is an excuse.

VforVideogames2646d ago (Edited 2646d ago )

Well of course Sony is selling more than Microsoft, its Xbox1s against PS4, PS4 Slim PS4 Pro , PSVR and PSVita 5 against 1 go figure.

MyDietEqualsGames2646d ago (Edited 2646d ago )

I feel as long as PS4 has continuous games coming out with a mix of sequels people want and new IPs that attract, then saturation will take longer than if this weren't the case. Cause let's face it, it is. To see them selling more each year is kind of funny and very indicative to their popularity.

Last gen I was sour as F because I knew the RROD inflated numbers were counted towards 360 sales and Greenburger was thumping his chest every month, acting like a Toddler. To me, I thought "Whatever. 1 year head start, cheaper since day 1 and inflated numbers with ad campaigns that were bloated enough to fund entire AAA studios and ship IP."

This gen, we get a very clear picture what's going on and retrospective into last gen as well, imho.

RosweeSon2646d ago

Yeah and PS now, Ps VR Ps2 classics, something for everyone ;)

Gamist2dot02646d ago (Edited 2646d ago )

Wonder how many PS4s will be sold by mid March with the amount of games releases. Guessing 60 million world wide.

@Rimeskeem
I can't see why they wouldn't on a special Horizon edition since I think it's too great of an opportunity to pass up.

Rimeskeem2646d ago

I'm surprised they haven't been doing more bundles. Horizon is coming and I haven't seen a bundle for the pro yet.

Former Blizzard President Suggests Players Should Have Option to Tip Developers

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.

LG_Fox_Brazil3d ago

If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.

But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry

neutralgamer19922d ago

Exactly these companies were raising money for good causes and gamers were donation and come to find out they are keeping a good chunk of be pie

PapaBop2d ago

Yeah tip your developer, 5% proceeds go to developer, 95% to the publisher or whoever. Isn't tipping for staff not making minimum wage? How about they just pay their developers properly and like you know, give them fair bonuses? Too much to ask from Blizzard these days, Kotick saw to that and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

MrDead2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It's the t**ts at the top looking at ways to cut devs wages and get the players to tip them like waiting staff, and I'll guarantee a percentage is skimmed and kept by Activision Blizzard. This is 100% for shareholder and CEO playouts.

Popsicle2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I have to agree with this. On the surface tipping devs sounds like a great idea, but in the end it leads to pay cuts and subsidization of pay. Tips then become an expectation or the devs “can’t make a living.” Lastly, especially in the US, tip culture has gotten out of control, and it serves as an excuse not to properly pay employees. Sounds good but doesn’t end well.

drizzom1d 22h ago

@ Popsicle

I think your right on the nose with how much tipping has become rampant. Instead of it being a relationship directly between the customer and the developer or employee, it now has a middle man ingrained in the system. DoorDash is one example. It ends up becoming a metric where the company can measure 'just how much more money you are willing to part with' before raising the price on the main product.

1Victor2d ago

Uh so they’re trying triple dip or more we buy the game that they’re already withholding/cutting content for dlc we was told that season pass would help the developers thrive we felt for it.
Now on top of all that plus their sales bonus they want tips enough is enough whatever happens to you create/built a good game get a bonus for sales milestones you care about your game and community we reward you with more sales not for doing 3/4 of a game then save the other 1/4 for dlc and passes after

raWfodog2d ago

The 'tip' is me buying your game in the first place.

S2Killinit2d ago

Very well said. If it was possible to send the money to either the developer or some organization for the betterment of gaming, sure. But we all know that will not be the case.

Rynxie2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

No, it would go to those on the top. They will still fire developers, have a bunch of microtransactions, raise prices of games and so on.

H92d ago

bloop2d ago

Ireland is literally the first stop across the pond and we don't have a tipping culture. The only establishments here that would expect a tip are the tourist haunts that Americans visit. Other than that, you might tip in a restaurant as a sign of gratitude for great service and waiting staff would be paid a full wage anyway.

Rebel_Scum2d ago

Tipping is not customary iin most countries dude. Get a passport lol.

Jin_Sakai3d ago

Is this a joke? How about the big wigs giving up some of their pay for their hard working developers.

Xbox's Preservation Step Sets A Much-Needed Example, Especially For Nintendo

Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"

purple1014d ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref3d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde3d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander19723d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville3d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan3d ago

mkis0073d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander19724d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde3d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander19723d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

Einhander19723d ago

Anyone remember games for windows live.

I have around a dozen games, some on Steam itself that will not work because Microsoft shut off the licensing servers.

BehindTheRows3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I do. I STILL have games (Gears of War being the big one) I cannot access because Games for Windows LIVE is total garbage and no one has held Microsoft accountable.

Zeref3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership.

Chevalier3d ago

"You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership."

Damn how many times do people got to explain your idiocy to you? You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

Tacoboto3d ago

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

shinoff21833d ago

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

crazyCoconuts3d ago

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

Xeofate3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

crazyCoconuts2d ago

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

FinalFantasyFanatic3d ago

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.
