Good article. It really gives a good breakdown of the current state of Xbox's 3 remaining big name exclusives. None are close to where Scalebound is, but I don't see them holding through when the competition has so much coming.

You have Switch and all of Nintendo's top exclusives coming: Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, Splatoon, and their unconfirmed games that we'll get info on Friday for.

And then you have Sony coming with another top lineup: Gravity Rush 2, MLB The Show, Dreams, God of War, GT Sport, Detroit, TLOU 2, Yakuza, Crash Bandicoot, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Digimon World, Nioh, Noer Automata, Ace Combat, Boundless, Shenmue, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Days Gone, Knack 2, Death Stranding, Spider-Man...and more.

MS lost what the last bit of good will it gad with gamers, saw through them long time ago, ow maybe more pepole will relize they are are just bad for the gaming industry.

Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves = Games you mess around with every now and then with buddies and not much else

Scalebound though was going to be about combat, action, and have large scale boss battles. The story was probably going to be weak but I'm sure it would have been more of a focus than the other Xbox games I mentioned. It was just going to be more of the full experience that gamers expect when they play a game.

So without Scalebound, the line-up just feels very underwhelming and lacking of a truly "I have to play that immediately" title

@Abash:
Thing is about Scalebound's boss fights, I don't see how they weren't only playable as four-multiplayer or up to three bot-controlled segments. Certainly never heard an explanation regarding how three other exact characters pop up out of nowhere in what looked like a single player game.

"they are are just bad for the gaming industry." Absolutely not this MS first major blunder of the year but bad for the industry no. That kinda talk wasn't going around late last summer going into the holidays.

U spek England gud brah :0

Seriously though, scalebound didn't excite me much anyway.
I would rather the game get canned now, then wait ten years of development hell just to get a average outdated title, the last guardian is a prime example of a game that should have been canned.

Why o why255d ago

On the contrary new Zealand. ....sticking it out and getting something to actually play and further diversify your library is actually comendable especially when the game turns out fine. Remove the hype element and you still got a good game. Not perfect but no game has the right to be perfect just because of its development lenght. Im sure there were issues along the way too... I guess sony showed more faith than MS on this occasion. .an unbelievable amount in fact

They couldn't hold it even with Scalebound. That's just not a good list of games for me.

Tussin187256d ago

Well, considering what Crackdown is trying to do we still don't know for sure if it's dropping this year. Hopefully we get some answers at this year's E3.

rainslacker256d ago

More importantly, we haven't seen enough of CD3 to know if what they're trying to do actually will help make it a better game. A unique selling point, no matter how innovative, doesn't always translate into a good game.

Knowing what kind of headache it must be to get a game like that working on a technical level makes me not envy the developers.

More importantly, knowing just how this could actually cause for a poor player experience if not handled correctly, makes me think that people need to see much more than what MS has shown now before assuming it's going to be the most amazing game ever. MS has shown almost nothing of the actual game play. Everything has been staged, or shown in controlled environments. Nothing has been shown in real time.

ninsigma255d ago

Well we know it's trying to use cloud tech to be able to create a fully destructible world in MP but beyond that it's nothing special from what they showed us.

Microsoft is definitely in trouble with first party right now. I wonder what E3 2017 is going to hold for them. I don't doubt cinematic trailers for Halo: 6 and Maybe a big Gears 4 expansion, out of desperation. But they are so far out of depth against Sonys brilliant first party handling that i just feel, Sony's going to slay them hard this year.

thatguyhayat256d ago

They need thee strongest E3 ever not one of the best cause its mostly been nothing but smoke and mirrors and bunch of lies. At least Don had Xbox exclusives

AngelicIceDiamond256d ago

Don had no interest in giving Xbox gamers anything different except crappy Kinect games and the same old Halo Gears line ups plus major focus on Tv. Hes part of the main reason why MS struggles 1st party wise he never invested in hardcore AAA studios.

maybelovehate256d ago

And State of Decay. If they are good, absolutely. All the games you mentioned will have tons of replay value.
