TGR's Rumor Killers: Rock Band: AC/DC, news from Bungie, and You Don't Know Jack

TGR - "Whether you enjoyed it or not, the fact remains that Activision was onto something when they released Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The game generated more revenue for the band than any of their albums, and fans got a chance to relive a big chunk of Steven Tyler and Co.'s catalog. We've already heard that Guitar Hero: Metallica is in the works, so it's just a matter of how many more bands will get the specialized treatment, and who they're going to be.

From the sounds of things, Harmonix is not going to take this lying down, as they have already inked their first game centered on a specific band, and their debut will feature Aussie rockers AC/DC. According to the story, not only is Harmonix planning on putting out a game, but also themed t-shirts, guitar controllers, and faceplates to celebrate the occasion."

Why make a new game?

Just sell the album as DLC...

DLC is still pretty restrictive... a lot of people don't even connect their consoles to the net, so a disc-release seems pretty smart on their part.

You do bring up a good point, though; why not sell the game as an expansion to the original, and offer it as a download as well? They'd get the same sales as a stand-alone title (if not more, since it would be cheaper) and then also get people to buy the original game on top of it.
