Xbox Achievements Shouldn't Be "Out Of" Anything

The "New Xbox Experience" will now show your Achievements as well as the total possible amount you could have got from all the games you have played. Sounds innocent enough? Maybe it is, or maybe it will have a darker, and far more negative effect on gaming and gamers.

"[P]eople will likely play more games because of it. But will people be enjoying those games as much? Or will we all just become a generation of mindless achievement whores, only having fun because something goes bloop if we do?"

"One full year no RROD!"

hey why not?

on topic: I don't know about you guys but i only think of achievements when im playing...its not like i actually play more games because of it.

I must admit it can be addicting, but only if you already own the game...

An Achievement for RROD? Man I would have had that one five times over... As for the new look of MS's dash... Meh. I kinda like it as it is now.

some times it makes the game a bit more satisfying and challenging, example:uncharted on hard, crushing, cod 4 on veteran, mile high club

sometimes it makes you kiddy and stupid

example:buying or renting worthless games like avatar just for points, tell your friends online to do this achievement with you or using achievement glitches

PureGamer3351d ago

You can already look at how many points you can get?

Excalibur3351d ago

Not sure what they are trying to say in this article.
You can already see your gamer score.
You can already see your total for each game.
And You can see your total left for each game is.

Why would this change make you any more or less likely to play for acheivements?

I mean if you are a mindless acheivement whore you are a mindless acheivement whore, this change wont make that any more or less likely.

I like achievements as it gives me something to shoot for in a game but I never feel the need to get 100% unless I absolutly love the game and even then I only want 100% if I think its acheivable in a fun way. I don't enjoy playing multiplayer as much as single player so I dont even really factor those into my list of achievements I want. If I happen to get one thats great, if not I move on.

I am not sure why anyone would play a game thats not fun for acheivements. What exactly is the prize for having the most acheivements?

I agree. Personally I mostly just care for achievements that also unlock something (new level, new skill, new weapon, etc.). Otherwise I just concentrate on what is actually fun to play.

To answer your last question, I do have some friends that force themselves to play games they admit are not that good just to get the points. In those cases it is purely for boosting their own ego and for self-validation.
