Nintendo Switch will be able to play GameCube games via its Virtual Console service, three separate sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.
I'm really hoping this is true, I had a GameCube back in the day and loved playing every game. This would make the Switch for me!
Agreed in my personal opinion the GameCube is the last best software lineup That Nintendo has ever released with the exception of maybe Mario Kart Double Dash. Almost all of my favorite Nintendo properties released on the GameCube with Smash Brothers Melee, Animal Crossing, Twilight Princess wind Waker my favorite Mario with sunshine, Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door etc This is actually why I'm excited about the switch because no more gimmicks just give us a solid software I feel every single time they've had a gimmick it's actually compromised the game. With the exception of Animal Crossing new Leaf I have not felt positive about almost any release that they've had of those franchises after GameCube.
The Switch is a gimmick literally itself. Wtf was the gimmick on wii u its literally the samething. People like you make no sense.
@N4life *sigh* The Wii U makes use of two screens, TV and controller, at the same time. The Switch is only one or the other; you can't use the Switch's screen and the TV at the same time. The Wii U game pad, and by extension its screen, cannot be taken very far away from the system, unless you carry the system and a spare battery around in a backpack with the game pad. The Switch screen IS the system, and can give you a home console experience no matter how far away from the TV dock you are. The Wii U had very few big name third parties on board due to its power issues. The Switch has many more third parties in its list of confirmed devs, as well as several sources saying its hardware shares architectural language with the other current systems, which makes porting easier. How in the hell are they even remotely the same? You need to rethink your stance. The only major thing the Switch and Wii U have in common is that they're made for home console games. That's it.
@nin- no. What the portable is does not affect the game's designs. The Wii U's gyroscope affected Star Fox Zero.. @wonder- correct.
As someone who owned a GameCube this sounds good. I just hope Nintendo doesn't put forth a half hearted effort.
I was semi interested in the Switch but if this is true I'll definitely get one for sure.
The Virtual Console games have been absolutely awful on Nintendo systems. Look at this comparison of NES Classic games to VC games: https://m.youtube.com/watch... VC games are dull, fuzzy, and look like the colors were deliberately muted. NES Classic games are bright and crisp. If GC games look this bad on the Switch, Nintendo should just skip them. They really don't seem to know how to port these games over to the VC.
The folks who did the NES Mini emulation are different than the team that handled the Virtual Console titles.
Well there really is no excuse for the poor quality of VC emulation. Nintendo should be forced to go back and correct/improve the original VC games. People paid a lot of money for those games, they deserve to get a decent quality product for the money. As it is, they delivered poorly ported, poorly emulated versions of these older games that completely failed to capture the essence of the original retro games.
For once, I agree with you. I see absolutely no reason for the Virtual Console games to look so dim on the Wii U. On the other hand, if this rumor is true, then this VC apparently will be handled by the team that made the NES Classic, so I hope that also means the games look as awesome as they did on the NES Classic.
OMG! Super Mario Sunshine!
More Melee for me
And they'll release like 10 games total. They handled the VC really badly
These the ones that should have been on Wii U 1-2 years ago after being rumoured at E3.
They have been playable on WII and WII U since day one with NintenDont
Lost Kingdoms 1&2, please? A man can dream...
Baten Kaitos series are the only games I care about gamecube
Eternal Darkness, Soul Calibur 2, MarioKart DD, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles would be great.
I'd rather see SC 2 be remade so we can play it online. Link vs Nightmare was always a fav matchup of mine...
hope it will get updated better than the Wii U VC
Awesome, want the switch even more now!
What about NES and SNES?
Pretty sure there was the exact same rumour floating when Wii-U came out
It better. The wii and wiiu didn't. Heck, the wiiu got Wii VC before GCN VC.
True, so Gamecube emulation should be much easier for Switch....hopefully Nintendo has some kind of stubborn awesome reason for waiting to bring Gamecube to Switch. Like a Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Mario Sunshine 2 and Metroid Prime 4. ;p
Of this I have no doubt. When GBA and DS games were released on the Wii U before GCN even though it was the GCN was announced first I figured they decided against releasing them on the Wii U in favor of their next console.
Straight question, but does Nintendo have an account system similar to XBL/PSN, that links any purchases made? I had a Wii and bought a few N64 games on the virtual console but lost them when I sold the Wii. I buy most of my PS4/Xbox games digitally and I'd be all over going digital on the Switch, as long as I retain ownership of what I buy, if that makes sense. Haven't owned a Nintendo console in a while so I'm a bit out of the loop.
I would download Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Double Dash the very first day.....make it happen Ninty! OMG, after reading the rumor has Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine already running.....YAAAAAS!!!
Melee on the go? Yes please.
I still have my GC and a lot of games, but to have them in HD would be cool. Eternal Darkness... Well, Eternal Darkness 2 would be better!
