Thomgame: As far as videogames go, for a long while Nintendo has ruled the TV advertising roost. Its extended, stylistically strong and on-message TV campaign has undoubtedly been a huge part the reinvention of the Nintendo brand and the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Wii and DS.
The last couple of months, however, have seen Electronic Arts make real efforts to establish itself as a real creative force in terms of marketing. At the forefront of this has been the company's work with Tiger Woods to promote PGA Tour '09 and the wider EA Sports brand. In two adverts from the Portland based agency Wieden+Kennedy Woods has been performing sensational (if not superhuman) feats of golfing prowess. The first advert, colourfully entitled 'Square Peg, Round Hole' is in itself an entertaining vignette which works with the personality of Woods and the notion of golf as a strategically challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable experience.
While the first advert is lovely, it pales in comparison to genius and creativity of the second, the now famous "Walk on Water" viral video.
