Why Do Developers Make Bad Games?

SCRAWL: "Have you ever played a game and thought to yourself, "wow, this game is really terrible"? I know I have. I could name a few right off the the top of my head: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Facebreaker, Vampire Rain, Iron Man, LAIR, Tenchu Z, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Sonic the Hedgehog (2K6), HAZE, the list goes on. When I play these games and realize how bad they really are, I tend to ask myself, "why would developers make bad games?".

There are a lot great game developers out there, such as Kojima Productions, Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Infinity Ward, Team ICO, SCE Santa Monica, Bungie, Rare, Rockstar Games etc. who are constantly putting out games with a 100 percent quality level, very rarely putting out a bad game."

I had gone back in time when I played Halo 3 and Forza.

Epically awful games, made by, I presume, drunk toddlers.

Developers make bad games because they are idiots.

Sometimes developers run out of cash, other times they run out of enthusiasm. For example - some original games are good in theory but in reality they just don't work. Developers start to realize this late in development and start to lose interest and want to get the thing out the door rather than waste even more of their cash on coders wages.

Many coders and artists aren't really concerned about the final product and don't get a share of the royalties. They could be working on 'The Turd from Outerspace' for all they care. Provided they get paid for their 3D models then they're happy.
