People Passing UP Playstation 3 In Favor For Wii

Readers told mercurynews.com recently that they're passing up Sony's PlayStation 3 in favor of Nintendo's Wii, and that they're closely watching the ''war'' between Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats.

Here are excerpts:

I live in Castle Rock, Colo., the southern tip of metro Denver. I stopped by the local (and very busy) EB Games (last) Saturday, and there was a large hand-written sign stating ''We have PS3's in stock.'' When asked about Wiis, ''Maybe next week.''

I was promised a Wii for X-mas from my wife, and already have ''Twilight Princess'' and ''Trauma Center'' (games) -- and have been looking around for a Wii non-stop. No luck out here at all.

a lot of my non-gamer and nonhardcore gamer friends are excited about the Wii mainly due to the Wiimote. it's fresh, innovative, and affordable.

My Baby sister's boyfriend (he's 30) wasn't the least bit interested in the PS3 or the 360; but he searched high and low, and made contacts at the various stores until he was able to snag a Wii. He finally got it shortly before Christmas. My sister hates video games and her teenage daughter hasn't played her PS2 since the last Kingdom Hearts, but all they can talk about is playing Wii sports every weekend.

While I don't doubt your post, I find it surprising (though not totally out there) that he's not interested in Call of Duty, Madden or other sports games in hi-def on either of the consoles. The graphics on the Wii are a non-starter for me, and I predict the controller ends up the novelty/gimmick it seems. It could be he doesn't have a hi-def tv or any plans to purchase--at that point the graphic question is almost moot. That said, I can see a lot of families with non-gamers getting the Wii for price and the allure of Wii Sports. gCM

These articles of the PS3 not selling are getting tiresome. Yes, price is a major issue, but when there are actually some decent PS3 games out (other than Resistance)then i believe sales will pick up, especially for euro launch, more good games are coming out then. For the record, i'm not a great Sony lover its just that competition is good, without it we would have even more sequels than we already have and less innovation in general.

I must see about a million of these stories a week, we get it, right now the sales aren't that great, but surely it will pick up later on.
