From Eurogamer: "Rare has vigorously denied suggestions that its Avatars for Xbox 360 are a deliberate attempt to copy Nintendo's popular Mii template, claiming that it began work on the project before Wii had launched."
I shouldn't be surprised
I love the way MS always tries to say they were working on everything before anyone else. There is a difference between throwing ideas around and actually developing something. Maybe its a good thing Rare didn't create these originally, it probably would have just sucked like everything else they do(Here's looking at you Kameo, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark Zero) But hey guys, how bout that new Banjo *sarcasm
I hate "miis" and avatars. I would not admit to this.
Seeing how Rare always takes a long time to release a game. I can see this being true. It's microsofts fault for giving them the time to make avatars.
"Seeing how Rare always takes a long time to release a game..." What? they released three games in the past 2 years(Kameo, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark Zero), and they will be releasing another 2 in the next few months (Viva Pinata 2, Banjo). Wouldn't count anything under three years per game as "long time" for game development.
Well I was talking about Rare in it's nintendo era. Seeing how it's not the same team, they may be faster, but maybe not, with microsofts wallet being able to get outside help or inside depending on how you look at it.
Mii was funny for me and all my older family. Avatars will be the same or even better because Mii's have not so many options to customise.
Rare is one of the best. I, for one, fully believe them.
LMAO. Does Rare think that Nintendo just all of a sudden slapped miis on their console at launch? I'm sure they were working on it as well. Seriously though, what is the big deal if it is a blatant copy of miis? The 360 avatars will be better, and people copy each other in this industry all the time. This would be like Sony saying that they thought of all the features Live has before they had to put them in a FW update every other month. lol. I can't wait for the Fall update!!
sure they were working on it doesn't explain y they didn't have it first though......should have been simple enough
[[I call Bullshit]]
"cough" bull$hit "cough"
Complete and Utter B.S. So typical of anything having to do with Microsoft.
Well I'm pretty sure Nintendo weren't the first to come up with avatars. In the console domain maybe but not as a whole. I imagine MS (and co like Rare) would of toyed with the idea of avatars a long time ago, I assure you someone would of scribbled it up on the board years ago. They've seen the popularity of the Mii and obviously that may have swayed their decision to implement them. MS are desperate for a piece of that casual pie after all. But coping is a strong word. It's a fact of life, take something and improve upon it. If it weren't we'd all be driving around in Henry Fords first model or the wright bro's would be taking us on our holidays. Sure the difference between then and now is huge, but it got to this point by people taking a concept (coping?) and pushing it further, one little step at a time. Influenced yes, copied, I find that to strong.
Ford made the 1st mass production car ppl have improved on it You didnt hear ppl say "Japan" copied Ford
Japan copied Ford!
Ford may have made the first mass produced ford, but Daimler made the first car! Ford copied benz!
And now M$ is trying to get all the credits for the Mii, in the modern world what you ppl are doing is Ripoff nintendo ideas. God help us if nintendo close its doors one day cos well never see a fresh idea ever again.
Should have patented the idea ;)
Even if Rare was it doesn't matter, Nintendo launched on their console first and no matter Rare does comparisons to Mii's are always going to be there like Home and Second Life. They should just concentrate on making their Avatars awesome on the 360 and that gamers take to it.
mjum. sony has been talking about Home since the PS2 came out but that doesn't change the fact that second life was launched first, so in the eyes of everybody else Home it's a copy just like MS avatars are a copy of Mii. they should just concentrate on making their Avatars awesome on the 360 and that gamers take to it. -like Doctor Strange says what it's second life? http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Rare was working on this before Mii's? Right too bad Nintendo was working on Mii's before Rare was working in Avatar's. Nice try though.
DOA4!!! in 2005 they had avatars for the online portion of the game really rare it takes you that long to make the avatars then???
Thats true and I remember that now.
...So Rare invented the wheel before everyone else too?
If rare copied nintendo, then nintendo copied every mmo, second life and avatar maker out there. I mean, you start with something simple, like a picture avatar then that evolves into an animated avatar, then eventually you make a 3d avatar. it's like graphics, you started with text based characters, then you got 2d sprites then 3d characters. In the case of live it seems simple, first you had an account and gamer tag which defined you online, then it was a gamerscore and gamer pic, now it's an avatar, next will be a "gamer pad" for your avatar I bet. Same goes with sony's home.
You had nothing to show for it on the market before Miis hit the scene. So fact is, you were kinda "idea squatting..."
I bet they are the ones who invented the light bulb too. I think Rare should just shut up and make a new Conker game.
And pigs can fly now huh? Rare.
and I am owner of McDonalds
owner? I doubt it... but I am pretty sure you work there...
oooo snap!! :D
Sure, I'll treat this with the same level of BS detection as when Sony announced the SIXAXIS and said motion had been planned since way before the Wii. Just once I would like a bit of honesty from one of the big game companies. The people reading what they say are media and industry savvy and we can smell a rat so tell your biggest fans the truth; spin the TV ads but your core base only recoil when you try pathetically to spin us too.
Miis probably have been in production 2 years before The wii was even announced. M$ just trys to get credit for anything they rip off. They also claimed they invented avatars back in 1991 with no proof. Just show me some real proof of this BS.
HAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHAHAHahhAH AHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahahAHAHAHa h aHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHAHAHa h hAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahahAHAH A HahaHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHAH A HahhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahahA H AHAHahaHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHA H AHAHahhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHah a hAHAHAHahaHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAha h HAHAHAHahhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHA H ahahAHAHAHahaHAHHAHahahaHAHHAH A hahHAHAHAHahhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAH A HAHahahAHAHAHahaHAH HAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHAHAHahhA HAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahahAHAHAH a haHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHAHAH a hhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahahAHA H AHahaHAHHAHahahaHAHHAHAhahHAHA H AHahhAHAHAHhahaHAHAHAHAHAHahah A HAHAHahaHAH What's next, you expect me to believe Sony's claim that they had been developing Play House and "trophies" years before 360 launched, back for the PS2? LOOOOL!!!!!! Is THAT why it's still not out? LOOL!!!! POOR DROIDS!!!!!
By "Working On" they mean they kinda sorta maybe in a back burner way might have sort of maybe been kinda working on them but the fact that Wii has been so successful has nothing to do with the timing.
What would you expect? They are owned by Microsoft now, They are supposed to talk sh!t like everyone MS related.
