Sony's new PlayStation VR headset 'could lead to EYE DISEASE and VOMITING epidemic', doctor warns. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tec...

I don't think so. Here : http://www.pushsquare.com/n...

Edit : You may think one person can handle it, but a lot of people said they didn't have problems with it.

Genuine-User2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Here's an official answer from Sony:

Q: The PS VR display is very close to my eyes, will I become nearsighted with prolonged use?

No. Actually the focal distance of the images presented by PS VR is at a distance of eight feet. This is similar to the optimal viewing distance required to view a 60″ TV. Again, we recommend taking 15 minute breaks every hour when using PS VR, just like when viewing other display devices.

cash_longfellow2759d ago

I handled it fine yesterday at Gamestop...I can see it being an issue for a very few, but not as much as some people are making it out to be.

S2Killinit2759d ago

I never had any issues with it.

Eonjay2759d ago

Obviously Sony has done more safety testing than these fake reports.

nix2759d ago

I might get motion sickness because i get that easily with some games like TLOU or UC4. I never had issues with UC 1/2 or sny other 3rd person or a racing games.

But my priority has been to use Theatre Mode of PSVR and obviously play some games too.

Happy now?

BTW, I'm supporting your argument and being sardonic.:)

LexHazard792759d ago

Would you stop already with that nonsense. You're not gonna scare any of us into not buy PSVR.

jznrpg2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Try harder, but it wont make your other consoles any better

Aenea2759d ago

Yes, some random doctor was asked about it, he pondered about it for a bit and came to those conclusions on his own without any tests of any kind. Besides the stuff he writes about seem to be the same for any display device, VR or not...

Goldby2759d ago

and not specific to PSVR.

But hey, Try is at least keeping true to his name, Trying lol

rainslacker2759d ago

I asked my eye doctor about it earlier this year, because I was curious. While he's not a full fledged eye specialist like the one in that article, he said he didn't know, but seemed it could lead to temporary tunnel vision. But he readily admitted he wasn't familiar with it enough to make any absolute assertion.

He said he didn't see why it would cause vision problems like myopia or whatever though. That's caused through defects in the lens of the eye, and the focal points on the retina. Also said frequent breaks would be wise since it's a bright display so close to the eye, and screens have a tendency to introduce eye strain....which is also true of regular TV's or monitors(my addition to the topic).

Well... at this moment I won't invest in VR equipment. Time will tell if this takes off or if it's another gimmick like Kinect or PS Move.
Honestly, I'm more inclined to think this will be another gimmick...

DeadlyOreo2759d ago

That's the spirit. Well done.

cash_longfellow2759d ago

Or you could...you know...try it

ILostMyMind2759d ago

Of course not! To be a good haters you should complain about everything that you never experienced.

amiga-man2759d ago

Wow Lelo you are so uninformed, VR has so much more going for it than Kinect, the fact all the tech companies are now heavily invested in VR should show you that.

VR will be around for a long long time.

S2Killinit2759d ago

Difference being, YOU CAN TRY IT. As opposed to Milo telling you kinect is great.

zivtheawesome2759d ago

wish i lived in the us where you could actually try it ;_;

S2Killinit2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Didnt realize. Well, i think it will be available soon to test drive it. Honestly, i had a blast with it and i think VR is really onto something. And its not just me, as people's impression has been overwhelmingly positive. I personally cant wait.

rainslacker2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

But Kinect is great. It gives you the chance to talk and interact with a adolescent boy. Or at least promised to.

So much better than blowing up mechanized combat suits, or being scared to death in immersive ways in some horror game, or being able to experience driving a race car in a way more like a real race car driver would.

I mean....it's an adolescent boy!!!!

Of course, young boys aren't everybody's thing, so to maintain variety, you can swing around like in Fighter Within, where it accurately depicts what real fighting is like.

Or grab a stick, and pretend you're using a light saber....because that isn't possible without Kinect, and kids haven't been doing that since the 70's anyways with their friends who were....you guessed it....other adolescent boys!!!!

Or you can dance around in a virtual space with your friends to music. Which obviously no one did before Kinect, so now it's special.

I mean, the list of things you could do on Kinect is endless....and usually involved endless meaningless flailing around which no one could do otherwise without looking like fools. With Kinect, they no longer look life fools......oh wait....

Originally had mine Pre-ordered day 1 but my dog died and his vet bills were high af. Therefore I had to cancel my preorder in favor of the PS4 Pro. I feel good about that decision only because the software hasn't arrived or is unproven. The PSVR looks fantastic but I feel good about waiting until this thing proves it has a place among video game media

cash_longfellow2759d ago

:(...sorry to hear about your dog...worse than losing a human sometimes.

Sm00thNinja2759d ago

Man it may have been the hardest week of my life. My wife and kids and myself were bawling like babies. I had to hold him as they put him down smh

cash_longfellow2759d ago

I shouldn't be surprised by three disagrees because...you know...n4g, lol...however, I am surprised to see it on a post that basically says sorry for your loss, shame really.

S2Killinit2759d ago

Never took you for a Playstation gamer. (With all your comments and all)

Sm00thNinja2759d ago

I'm just not a complete fanboy. I get called a Playstation fanboy by Xbox owners so it's all good. I do play my PS4 far more than my Xbox lately but that's because I was really into NMS and then got back into Destiny recently

S2Killinit2759d ago

Cool. Gaming first is a good policy.

Sm00thNinja2759d ago

Indeed. Fantastic few months ahead no matter what side you're on. Xbox owners get GoW4, FH2, DR4, and the Xbox ONE S. Playstation gamers have not one but 3 hardware releases, World of Final FANTASY which I'm stupid excited over, the Last Guardian. Good time to be a multi console gamer

Doabarrelroll2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

I feel you. My dog died when I was seventh grade, it killed me leaving home to go to school and comeback and see that she wasn't home. I immediately knew what happened. We had her cremated so in a sense she's still with us but it wasn't easy, epically since I grew up with her. I think the pain of the lost is what's preventing my parents from getting another one even though lately they've said they've wanted one.

From an honest PlayStation gamer to another I give my apologies for your lost. I know I make fanboys comments a lot but they are usually in just retaliation against trolls, I genuinely don't care what you play on,

whether its PS/Xbox/Nintendo/PC/Ouya, at the end of the day we're all gamers and it's all about just having fun with what your going through we all should be grateful gaming exists. Makes getting through those tough moments alittle easier

Sm00thNinja2759d ago

You know the struggle had mine cremated too. He followed me everywhere so it's like I'm missing a part of me. It's only been a week since

Aenea2759d ago

Yikes, I'm sorry about your dog :(

Lost my kitty a few years back, the vet thankfully let me come in after closing so I had enough time, just stood there holding her and crying. Sigh, still miss her. Luckily her sister is still with me.

Sm00thNinja2759d ago

I mean does it ever go away? This feeling sucks I hugged him the whole time and talked to him before they injected him I bawled into his fur for a good 10 minutes after not ashamed to admit

ccgr2759d ago

Curious what the availability will look lkke

SmielmaN2759d ago

They had said they would do 3 waves of preorders (I believe I got in on the 2nd wave) then after that it would be widely available at launch. I would have to think they will pull a Wii strategy and release a certain amount to sell out then drum up anticipation for the next wave of shipments in 2 weeks time all the way through Jan-Feb. I think they will have plenty. The sales probably won't say "5million VR's sold in first week!" But I would think if they could sell 2 million world wide for the holidays they would be thrilled.

Just my opinion on it anyways.

dragongod642759d ago

Read the post, it says nothing about eye disease but you may fall down from being dissy for some people. If it did couse eye disease do you think sony would be releasing it with out testing it? And why is it that this vr is getting these people saying this, most of all when the headset is not out yet. And if your so wored about this fake info, Don't Buy One. No one is foursing you to buy one are thy?

LexHazard792759d ago

Yeah thats the only issue I ever have is sometimes you lose balance...but VR is cool.

rainslacker2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Eye disease is caused by something that causes diseases. Bacteria, genetic mutations, deficiencies, viruses, etc.

Unless the PSVR is introduced intravenously through the eye, I can't see how it would cause disease.

Possible if one doesn't clean it once in a while, it could cause such things. I mean, contacts are the same way. But I've worn contacts for over 20 years now, and outside some dry eye once in a while, and a burst blood vessel here or there due to damaged contacts or dirt getting in them, I've been fine....and so have the bulk of others who have worn them. But that's not a problem with the PSVR, it's a problem with hygiene....and people should take care to clean their devices once in a while....and the bacteria is more likely to come from them than the PSVR anyhow.

The things that doctor called eye diseases weren't even diseases, they were eye conditions. Myopia isn't caused by one's proximity to the screen, or at least there is no evidence to suggest that, although it's been posited as a theory.

Eye strain is the only other thing he mentioned, and that is a real thing that will happen, and doesn't even need research. But that's not the fault of PSVR, it'st he fault of the way the eye focuses on a display, where it tends to actually focus on a single point, thus you use more muscles to keep the eye on that point, which causes strain on the eye, as the eye tends to drift under normal vision conditions, allowing one's periphery to compensate for the movement. This is why it's recommended to not play games or watch TV in a darkened room, because it exacerbates the lack of eye movement. Eye strain also isn't a problem if one takes breaks, and that's why it's recommended by every console maker, and game maker.

Profchaos33d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
