Sea of Thieves: What the Hell Actually Is This Game? | IGN

Some exciting bits of information

“There are different regions,” Chapman explains, “regions that have different feels, like classic Caribbean, lush wilderness with ancient civilisations, or ones that feel more barren. Regions that convey different emotions and you feel like you’ve been on that seamless journey, that you’ve travelled a long distance.”

Examples include generated shipwrecks, which crews can dive into looking for sunken treasure, or spotting a glinting bottle washed up on a beach through your telescope, which could contain a map to some far-flung new location.

Treasure chests or valuable artifacts have to be carried onto your ship, then stored in holds, before presumably being traded in at port for your chosen rewards. It leads to some brilliant-sounding thinking - enemy ship boarders will presumably head straight to the main cargo hold to steal what you’ve got, so some players might choose to hide their chests somewhere else (the captain’s cabin for example) as a misdirect, forcing raiders to spend that little bit longer searching for it, or even give up entirely. And what if those artifacts look really, really cool? A richer captain might choose to just keep it as an ornament/rainy day fund.

Nice. I hope it turns out great.

poppinslops2758d ago

The way death is handled sounds interesting - instead of simply respawning, players find themselves aboard 'the Ship of the Damned' - a ghost-ship with a ghost Captain, who has you and your corpsified crew-mates working their way back to the land of the living... meanwhile, your ship and all her treasures are waiting for you - or the bastards who killed you - to return.

Regardless of the outcome, dead players do get to keep whatever the have in their inventory, so it's not as brutal as a permadeath system... just stow some booty in your booty, steer clear the poop-deck and all will be well!

I love this interview. Made me feel alot better about the games direction . Though I really think they need to focus on getting sword and pistol combat in there and doing it right.

This is a budget game for 19.99 not a triple A game with a full price

demonddel2758d ago

You didn't understand or my grammar is bad

demonddel2758d ago

Was it that hard to understand bruh be honest

DeadlyOreo2758d ago

I think he means it doesn't look like it should cost full price. I can see where he's coming from.

game4funz2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

Of course you do. I can see where you both come from too.

vega2752758d ago

Neither was NMS but hello games and sony got people to pay full price for a early access game.

So why should looks play a part now?

demonddel2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

Wow what was it that hard to understand sorry bruh I don't speak suburban I do understand my hood dialect can confuse some people but I try

JasonKCK2758d ago

DJustinUNCHAIND2758d ago

Someone pissed in your cornflakes.

If it looked like trash, then I know we'd be looking at a PS4 game.

christocolus2758d ago

" Looks like trash"

smh...same can be said about your comments in every Xbox thread...The Irony.

Barricade2758d ago

Gg DJunstibUNCHAIND, let's react to the fanboy with an even bigger fanboy reply. Smh, just shut up if you don't have anything useful to say.

He says it doesn't look like a AAA game, and I see where he's coming from. Its art style and it being a creative game makes it look like an indy game. Because those trend to look super creative, is that a bad thing now?

Notice how I said I understood his point of view, doesn't mean I agree with him. It'll most definetely be worth it's price. Indeed glad to see (the new) Rare back making games people care about.

freshslicepizza2758d ago

the art style looks like an idie game? that's a new one. i hardly ever see water look that good and most indie games don't have games that looked this polished or as big that are your typical $20 indie game.

DJustinUNCHAIND2758d ago

Barricade.

That is not at all what he said.

He said "looks like trash".

Where did you gather all of that malarkey that you wrote from those three words?

Could Helldivers 2 Be PlayStation’s Sea Of Thieves?

Opinion: Why Helldivers 2 and Sea of Thieves, despite their obvious differences, are very much the same for PlayStation and Xbox

Tired of these MS fluff pieces. Sot does not come close to what hd2 does.

danno_omen3d ago

You should probably read the article then, I wasn’t comparing the actual games

Cacabunga3d ago

How can it be PS sea of thieves when SOT is on PS5? Were you just in a hurry to write something??

MrNinosan3d ago

Make a less click baiting headline next time, and people might read bwfore judging.

z2g3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

people don't understand nuance or abstract thought. they just hear two games and decide they like one better than the other so the one they don't like can't be anything close to the one they like. I get that you are speaking in a larger context, not a direct comparison. it could be a huge community building game that has a long burn that could also extend to other platforms and or be cross platform. it could be like sea of thieves in that regard etc. never mind the knuckle draggers on this site. its impossible to have a reasonable, objective conversation here.

I know the headline is a bit bonkers but it is otherwise a good read apart from that.

InUrFoxHole3d ago

Lol you didn't read it. It's just suggesting that it would be beneficial for gamers if HD2 came to xbox. Like sea of thieves did. Don't get in your feels over it.

Magatsuhi3d ago

Its a click bait article. It benefits only xbox to bring a successful game to their failure of a console.

InUrFoxHole3d ago

Lol you big 😠 😡. Just wait till the showcase!

GamerRN3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Yeah, this site just constantly has so many positive Xbox sm articles, I'm tired of them also... 🙄

z2g3d ago

what a surprise, more basic thinking from basic gamers. the comparison it could be a huge community building game that has a long burn that could also extend to other platforms and or be cross platform. it could be like sea of thieves in that regard etc.... sorry thoughts get more abstract than what your brain can seem to handle

Sonic18812d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Well Helldivers 2 might be releasing on Xbox in the near future

Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5: the next big Xbox multi-platform game tested

So, no one wants to talk about how the PS5 outperforms the xbox version in multiple ways, huh?

purple1012d ago

Draw distance better / shadows better

Also he calls most ps5 “oddity’s” and uses the term “not sure why this is happening” a lot

Ps5 is just more powerful, those 2teraflop difference and Xbox fanatics saying world most powerful console, is worth zip- zero

Sea of Thieves Welcomes 40 Million Players

Joe 'Three Sheets' Neate (Executive Producer): "As I’m sure you can imagine, when it comes to Sea of Thieves my days are full of numbers. Development costs, active servers, days until the next update… Sometimes, though, a truly extraordinary number stands out – a number like 40 million, which I’m incredibly pleased to say is the number of pirates who’ve now set sail in Sea of Thieves!"

I pre-order the premium edition for my PS5 today

Crows906d ago (Edited 6d ago )

40 million have set sail...that's great. How many are sailing now? Monthly active users....when it actually matters. How many people purchased the game is another important number.

Gamingsince19816d ago

You don't get numbers like that from MS mouth pieces, they just like to say stuff like "this game was looked at 129 million time, the biggest amount of people browsing a game of this genre on xbox gamepass ever in the last 3 weeks compared to before gamepass was out (small print only 2 million bothered playing longer than 20 seconds and only 100 people are playing it concurrently)

It's all smoke and mirrors

nibblo6d ago

There are usually around 10,000 concurrent users on Steam not counting Xbox or PS but really it doesn't matter as long as there are enough people on the servers to play which there always were and will be for a long time now with the PS players coming on board. Same goes for how many people bought it and how many are on GP, we aren't the accountants of these console companies so why would we care?

Hofstaderman6d ago

Reporting on MAU stats is very misleading. Other companies publish units sold, MS cannot or will not due to Game Pass. We all know that their prior startegies have not panned out so now they have to actually sell games on other consoles. In any case, SoT is doing impressive preorders on PS5 and will very likely motivate Satya to release more games other than the four indicated games on their competitor's consoles. Take note Phil is radio silent....

Jingsing5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Yeah Microsoft would tell you the start menu has had 1 billions clicks on Windows 11 to let you know it is beating Windows 10 when the reality is something else. 10,000 concurrent steam users is enough for me to extrapolate there aren't millions playing this on console either. Lets not forget the motivation to bring this to PS5 is already an admission of poor player count. I'd prefer it is Microsoft would just say nothing when it comes to numbers as it makes them look stupid while trying to make everyone else look like an idiot.

40 Mil across Stream, Windows 10, and Xbox. Healthy numbers for sure, but when PC is the biggest platform, I expected more. It’ll be interesting to see how it does on PlayStation. Very well could be double that player count in 6 months with PS too. It’s crazy for developers to skip the most popular platform, not sure why they’d want to, but they must have had their rea$ons.

Christopher5d ago

PC is the market with the most competition for these type of games as well, so it's actually easier to break in on consoles where these games aren't as prominent.
