Albert Lea man admits to video-game scam

A rural Albert Lea man has pleaded guilty to a scam that involved buying video games from area stores and repackaging the containers with blank replica game discs.

Frank Albert Buchanan, 31, returned the fraudulent games for a refund and sold the original games on eBay, an online-auction site.

On Friday, Buchanan pleaded guilty in Mower District Court to a single felony count of theft by swindle (more than $5,000) related to the allegations that he received credit for fraudulent merchandise at area Target, Wal-Mart, ShopKo and Kmart stores, records show. Two other similar charges will be dismissed.
