Wow what a comment from Pachter, I am definitely here for the beer and popcorn. 😉

Edit: Ah stuff it! I think I will play Bloodborne instead which I don't think we will see on the PC anytime soon.

I will play Path of Exile a bit again, also KOF XIV

Not all PC gamers are egoistic but there are those who bring 4K/60fps/mods in every game/conversation. They are graphic asshoes!!!

I can't be the only one that sees the irony in Pachter calling someone else an arrogant twit!

DarXyde2763d ago

Shin-Zantetsuken,

You can't talk about PC gamers like that without sounding like one of them, you know. ;0)

I would argue console gamers criticizing PC gamers comes off as "more racist" than PC gamers talking about console gamers. Every console of a certain type is the same. You can reliably generalize. Can't really do that with PC.

Besides, some of them are gaming mutts who play both. No gaming apartheid here...

Pachter should've said, "PC gamers represent mankind the best: they've all got a basic consistent setup, but with boundless potential."

Console gamers somewhat remind me of Syrian or Somalian genocide where you're all in a similar situation but you still find ways to hate each other.

Of course, if Pachter said that much, he'd be fired.

Majister-Ludi2763d ago

Nope but the souls games are which are pretty much the same thing lol.

mikeslemonade2763d ago

Lol many PC gamers don't even have a 970 or above so they are no better than a console gamer.

Console fanboys are the worst of all and even N4G's disagree system alone shows it.

Utalkin2me2763d ago

@marioJP87

Doing a quick glance into your comment history. Seems you're awful worried about disagree's. You know what, Who cares! It does nothing, and doesn't change the fact of anything.

donthate2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

At least console players don't have a movement that calls other gamers names like PCMR. PCMR is toxic to the industry, and need to be exposed for what they are.

But yes, fanboys exist on all platforms.

Vokun132763d ago

Agreed. The fanboys of the pc master race are just the most vocal ones, which is why a lot of people have met those type of people. Everyone's got the loud ones that think their thing is the best.

But really, I do find PCs objectively superior in this day and age due to how cheap parts are getting. A $450-500 rig can get you 1080P 60FPS on the latest AAA titles and games can become uber cheap on PC while still allowing devs and publishers to make money.

I don't want to force someone or berate someone for not gaming on what I do, but I guess it's just something you gotta try out in order to believe. My interest in technology is why I'm mainly a PC gamer. Just lil ol' me from years back opening up a prebuilt and tinkering around figuring out I could just add 2 extra parts to it to make it run more games that I couldn't before. I used to be a console gamer, but when I look back I didn't really have a choice. Pre 2006 PC components were far too expensive to keep up with consoles, but now $300-$350 worth of components can do that with ease and I wonder where technology will be in the next 10 years. I already see little point in consoles or as I like to think of them, watered down restricted computers that you have no real ownership over. I feel I'm just going to be rambling if I keep going, but give PC a try and I bet you'll like it. Head over to the PCmasterrace subreddit and you'll get the help you need to get started and they have an in depth wiki to assist you right away.

I care about the gamer, not the companies that tell us what we should enjoy.

donthate2763d ago

Objectively superior?

Please go back to PCMR! That is where they use terms like "objectively" to justify PC as their God.

Oh, and also, console is objectively cheaper and has less problems.

yeahright22763d ago

It's about what you prioritize. I have a gaming PC and consoles. And while I prefer consoles, I can tell you both have advantages. The Master race types tend to cling heavily on having prettier pictures, and that's true, but it also offers an open platform, no subscriptions needed, the joy of mods and so on. While on the console side you never have to check specs to see if you can run this game or that, you get those exclusive games, you don't have to learn the lingo of an entire subculture (the average console gamer might never have heard of AMD and Nvidia, much less be able to tell which card is right for them). Plus, games just tend to get more care on consoles (references things like Arkham knight and bioshock remaster)
I've noticed the master race types tend to think they can insult people into gaming on PC, never quite understood that strategy. But what seems to be missed is that people that chose console gaming probably have done so for a reason. The Casuals will follow the market, nothing you can really do there, but core gamers have already looked at the options and made up their minds. Maybe seeing battlefield 1 in 4K isn't as important as being able to play it with friends, maybe standing on principle of not paying for online play is more important than playing uncharted. So as far as objectively goes, I think that varies from gamer to gamer.

NohansenBoy2763d ago

To be fair though, blaming the platform for lazy devs isn't a good thing and that goes for all platforms (Arkham Knight) since it's almost the same as giving them a free pass. I would think that the most open source platform has plenty of resources and references for any team attempting to tackle development on PC to learn as they go and get it right eventually or at the very least hire people who can work on PC ports/games. Not sure what the deal with Bioshock is, but like Fable Anniversary, it looks like I'm paying for a slightly nicer looking game. I don't think remasters are good for the industry if all they do is pretty up some things here and there. Sadly a lot of Sony remasters are just allowing the game to run at a higher resolution.

I don't understand hostility being the tactic used to get people to follow something either. I'll tell the companies themselves to go suck an egg all day, but gamers should help out and embrace other gamers. I'm also not sure if "recruiting" for PC is the right thing to do, but I genuinely think that consoles are going to die soon. There's just so many things mirroring the video game crash of 83. Computers are entering households faster than ever, there's too many consoles on the market or at least there will be in 2017, there's too many broken/unfinished game. The last thing can't really affect PC since PC is a platform that hosts platforms and two of the biggest platforms allow for self publishing so they don't take a hit if a game fails. If a game fails on consoles, plenty of people take a hit. Even if Steam died, PC would still allow for fairly simple self publishing on a game devs own website thanks to how different the internet is today. You just can't have everything in one place any longer. I also think MS has a contingency plan if consoles do die and that's their own Windows store. I'm not sure how good it is since they still want console like control over people, but I'm sure they have a backup. The people at Sony also outright stated that they want to keep people from hopping from console to PC. That's the whole point of these mid gen upgrade. To compete with PC. As for Nintendo, I think they'll have to pull out of the console industry if the NX doesn't do well and if it is just another gimmick instead of Gamecube 2.0, then I honestly do think it'll fail. I think the final nail in the coffin for consoles is if we can get i5 2500k and GTX 760-770 performance for less than $200 and I can see that happening before x86 meets its theoretical limit and further improvements are impossible.

I really don't care about any of these companies, but again I do care about my fellow gamers. Several companies made my PC components, but they can't dictate what I do with them once they leave the factory so it's still an open platform that will give everyone a chance to enjoy it.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I do think open source technology in general is the future of everything.

donthate2763d ago

NohansenBoy:

I feel remaster is good for the industry when done right. MS seems to get this, and their remasters in general are stellar. Gears: UE is the best remaster I have seen. Every texture, and almost every sound has been redone. Every animation has been redone, and the MP part is revamped to modern standards.

This isn't just a bump (resolution) and sell (profit), but delivering a true experience.

I own a PC, a PS4 and an XB1 (and a slew of older consoles from Nintendo Wii to SNES and so on), but PC's openness is mostly fake. Nvidia locks the games to perform better on their GPU, and this affects like 80-90% of the games, because they have a good 80% of the market. Lots of Nvidia features like g-sync is non-standard and again locks you to Nvidia. You are locked to Windows, because most other attempts at an alternative is bad, very bad. SteamOS/Linux isn't a good alternative, and the closest to an alternative is OSX. While Steam is the dominant game DRM to the point where other services are just selling Steam keys, and PC gamers are all chanting Steam, Steam, Steam or no buy!

That is the reality. PC gamers aren't welcoming new entrants into the market, they aren't embracing them, yet they will champion openness as a token argument.

And yes, PC part manufacturers are indeed dictating what you can do with your hardware. You are just oblivious to it, because they just gave you part of the stick while holding the other, while grabbing a profit from selling you the hardware.

I enjoy PC gaming, and just built an i5-6600k and 1070 (to me) monster with Windows 10, and I plan to get Scorpio next year (and skipping PS4 Pro since I just got another PS4 this past xmas), but as you say they all have advantages and disadvantages. None of them are really what they purport to be.

NohansenBoy2763d ago

Just wanted to put this article here and leave this at that. http://rog.asus.com/2516201...

yeahright22763d ago

I hear you on multiple points there. Know that I don't give them a pass when it comes to PC versions running like crap. In fact, I find it offensive to all gamers as PC players ten to be the ones who cough up the extra cash in order to get the best visuals, frame rates, and just overall polish. When a dev, craps on that version, they're basically saying "cash first, you all if we can get to you". As a primarily playstation gamer, that means that if another platform suddenly becomes top dog sales wise, then less care gets put on my platform of choice. I
don't want that for me, so I'm not kosher with to happening to others. My point was more that with fact being that PC versions of games tending to have more issues than console counterparts, a consumer might be nudged to go with a console to avoid that.
Remasteres I can take or leave. If I never played the game, sure, I'll bite if it catches my interest. If I feel I got more than $60 worth of enjoyment out of the game, sure I'll toss a few more bucks their way. but If It's just prettier graphics on a game I found mediocre, I pass.

I can't argue with the ret of what you said. It might turn out that way, might not. Personally I can consoles as we know them dying. But I think xbox will merge with PC through the windows store and beome what steam machines were meant to be. PlayStation I see far superior PSnow becoming playstation in 1 or 2 more generations. And I thank the heavens for mobile, it seems to be doing a great job of keeping garba titles off other platforms.

But yeah, good talk man, always pleasure mting a fellow PC gamer who doesn't just go on and on about master race rubbish.

What an arrogant, conceited, pompous comment. I think you perfectly portray what Pachter is saying.

The truth is that whilst PC elitists constantly bang on about power, the average gaming PC is no more powerful than the standard PS4.

The thing with PC is you can play on a piece of shit 10 year old rig and still claim to be part of "the most powerful" format.

Those same people then talk about how weak your "pathetic" console is and how they have "unlimited potential" (despite being out performed constantly).

Very few have powerful PC's, yet they all claim to have the upper hand when it comes to power.

Just like gamergate is about harassing women right? Gullible people eating up whatever the media tell them. You shine a light on how the media or journalist fail at what they do, they will of course change and control the narrative of what ever group is calling them out. BLM was originally calling out how the media portray the deaths of blacks.

LordMaim2759d ago

I think you may have replied to the wrong person.

niteight2763d ago

White supremacists? Where did you get that? All I read was arrogant and racist. I'm quite sure he must have been referencing black lives matter.

Eonjay2763d ago

BLM is a movement which wishes to bring to attention the fact that black people are much more likely to be the victim of police harassment, violence and that far to many are being killed unjustly. It seeks to say that black lives are important. Everything else is propaganda from the left and right to control you with fear. Black lives like all lives matter. Don't expect people to throw down their lives to satisfy your sensibilities. Don't expect black people to be okay with being killed by cops. There is something so contentious about saying that a black person's live is worth something that really upsets people. Three simple words. Fascinating.

Dee_912763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

black lives matter? Where did you get that? oh right, fox news and alt-right youtubers. Racism ain't real until you supposedly face it I suppose.

Princess_Pilfer2763d ago

Except you don't get to choose to be white. You do get to chose which platform you game on. Kinda a fundamental difference between judging people for choices and judging people for facts of their biology that makes the comparison absurd on it's face.

That said, no, the PS4 pro doesn't offer a dedicated PC gamer (even on a mid range 500-600 USD PC) much they don't already have, and that's actually cheaper equal to or cheaper than the PS4 Pro if you factor in the cost of PS+ for online. I can do 4k/30 (I don't because 1080 or 1440 on high settings looks bette4,) I can do HDR. A few exclusives (Ie bloodborne and Persona 5) and that's basically it.

2763d ago
Princess_Pilfer2763d ago

I wasn't saying non-whites can't be racist genius, I was saying judging people for being white (wether you think better or worse of them) is stupid specifically because it's not a choice. Judging people for a choice is, therefor, fundamentally different. Try putting some thought into what people say next time sweetheart, it'll save you making an ass of yourself.

DragonKnight2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Every group has its bad apples, the problem is the whole "PC master race vs Console Peasants" thing. Joke/Troll or not, it is employing a supremacist mentality that, were it applied to the real world in any way, it would legitimately be considered some sort of -ist such as racist or sexist.

People take it too far, insisting on the idea that they are somehow superior to another based on the money they spend to get a certain level of power.

Change "PC Master Race" to "White Master Race" and "Console Peasants" to "Black Peasants."

Now, you can't control skin color, but that doesn't mean that you wouldn't feel the sting of that kind of thinking just as much because it requires the same mentality.

People need to stop the supremacist mentality on all sides. PC to Console, Console to Console, we all want the same thing. To play great games.

Ravenor2763d ago

I can handle the PCMR ribbing, its just plain stupid anyways. What always irked me was the specs war, the notion that someone's desire to play a game is based entirely on the resolution being output by the machine.

That and the 400-500 machine being a better experience than a PS4. That kind of money doesn't get Canadians even close to a complete machine, factor in OS, monitors, keyboard, mice, desk, computer chair and you're looking at far more than $400 CAD. I bought a 960 when it came out and that alone was more than half the $400-500 budget people like to throw around.

DragonKnight2763d ago

Oh man, don't get me started on Canadian prices. I tried using ca.pcpartpicker.com to check out a build someone made a mock up of for me. He said it was $1000 and that was a few years ago. When I put in the parts, or similar because Canada, it was $1500. Few years later, that hasn't improved.

Plus, I hate how the conversations turn into gibberish acronyms and numbers.

"I have a GTX T-2000 S series running in quad SLI. My CPU is an i25 9001K clocked at 19.4 TeraHerz."

Ok R2-D2.

Ravenor2763d ago

T-2000 is one killer card bra.

Princess_Pilfer2762d ago

No. The fact that you can't control skin color is specifically what makes racism intolerable. It's perfectly fine to judge people for their choices, because they're CHOICES. If someone decides to form a rape gang targeting women in germany, judging them is not a problem. Such a (hopefully) harsh negative judgement for playing on a console would be ****ing stupid because it;s a simple preference that doesn't hurt anyone, I'd argue a negative judgement for playing on consoles in general is stupid, but the fundamental fact is that you're judging people for an action which they do have control over and that makes the comparison to racism absurd on it's face.

Yeah, i have a burning urge to gas other platforms. Usually right after i've read some "Mein PC".

DragonKnight2763d ago

Sarcastic extremism doesn't invalidate my argument. Whenever a PC gamer employs elitist PC Master Race mantras and thinking, they are taking a supremacist position. They are effectively stating their superiority at having superior tech they paid much more to have and that those with consoles have inferior tech and are thus beneath the Master Race.

I've even seen PC elitists state that the only core gamers that exist are the PC Master race because they pay more to get the definitive experiences.

If that isn't a supremacist attitude then what is it?.

ChristopherJack2763d ago

Former Blizzard President Suggests Players Should Have Option to Tip Developers

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.

LG_Fox_Brazil1d 17h ago

If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.

But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry

neutralgamer199222h ago

Exactly these companies were raising money for good causes and gamers were donation and come to find out they are keeping a good chunk of be pie

PapaBop12h ago

Yeah tip your developer, 5% proceeds go to developer, 95% to the publisher or whoever. Isn't tipping for staff not making minimum wage? How about they just pay their developers properly and like you know, give them fair bonuses? Too much to ask from Blizzard these days, Kotick saw to that and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

MrDead22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

It's the t**ts at the top looking at ways to cut devs wages and get the players to tip them like waiting staff, and I'll guarantee a percentage is skimmed and kept by Activision Blizzard. This is 100% for shareholder and CEO playouts.

Popsicle21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

I have to agree with this. On the surface tipping devs sounds like a great idea, but in the end it leads to pay cuts and subsidization of pay. Tips then become an expectation or the devs “can’t make a living.” Lastly, especially in the US, tip culture has gotten out of control, and it serves as an excuse not to properly pay employees. Sounds good but doesn’t end well.

1Victor18h ago

Uh so they’re trying triple dip or more we buy the game that they’re already withholding/cutting content for dlc we was told that season pass would help the developers thrive we felt for it.
Now on top of all that plus their sales bonus they want tips enough is enough whatever happens to you create/built a good game get a bonus for sales milestones you care about your game and community we reward you with more sales not for doing 3/4 of a game then save the other 1/4 for dlc and passes after

raWfodog16h ago

The 'tip' is me buying your game in the first place.

S2Killinit13h ago

Very well said. If it was possible to send the money to either the developer or some organization for the betterment of gaming, sure. But we all know that will not be the case.

Rynxie11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

The Reason Sega Lost The 32-Bit War? The 32X, Says Yosuke Okunari

"The company was unable to focus enough on its main hope"

timeextension.com
ApocalypseShadow5d ago

Nope. Going back to the 32X as the reason Sega lost that generation doesn't go back far enough before the Saturn.

Sega executives need to blame themselves as to why Sega lost that generation. Not Saturn. Not 32X. Not Sega CD. Nope. Executives were the reason why. It wasn't the hardware. Those devices were either dropped early or released to soon resulting in a developer backlash the hurt the game catalog. They really shouldn't have been made at all because they should have planned their next move more carefully. It has nothing to do with the devices. Poor leadership decisions and lack of unity within the company are what happened.

Love how blame is always shifted away from what is the truth. Writing a book placing the blame on the 32X isn't the truth.

solideagle4d ago

I am pretty sure there are documentaries (Youtube) around it which highlights these points. I had Sega Mega drive and NES growing up but that's about it.
