But really, I do find PCs objectively superior in this day and age due to how cheap parts are getting. A $450-500 rig can get you 1080P 60FPS on the latest AAA titles and games can become uber cheap on PC while still allowing devs and publishers to make money.

I don't want to force someone or berate someone for not gaming on what I do, but I guess it's just something you gotta try out in order to believe. My interest in technology is why I'm mainly a PC gamer. Just lil ol' me from years back opening up a prebuilt and tinkering around figuring out I could just add 2 extra parts to it to make it run more games that I couldn't before. I used to be a console gamer, but when I look back I didn't really have a choice. Pre 2006 PC components were far too expensive to keep up with consoles, but now $300-$350 worth of components can do that with ease and I wonder where technology will be in the next 10 years. I already see little point in consoles or as I like to think of them, watered down restricted computers that you have no real ownership over. I feel I'm just going to be rambling if I keep going, but give PC a try and I bet you'll like it. Head over to the PCmasterrace subreddit and you'll get the help you need to get started and they have an in depth wiki to assist you right away.

I care about the gamer, not the companies that tell us what we should enjoy.

It's about what you prioritize. I have a gaming PC and consoles. And while I prefer consoles, I can tell you both have advantages. The Master race types tend to cling heavily on having prettier pictures, and that's true, but it also offers an open platform, no subscriptions needed, the joy of mods and so on. While on the console side you never have to check specs to see if you can run this game or that, you get those exclusive games, you don't have to learn the lingo of an entire subculture (the average console gamer might never have heard of AMD and Nvidia, much less be able to tell which card is right for them). Plus, games just tend to get more care on consoles (references things like Arkham knight and bioshock remaster)
I've noticed the master race types tend to think they can insult people into gaming on PC, never quite understood that strategy. But what seems to be missed is that people that chose console gaming probably have done so for a reason. The Casuals will follow the market, nothing you can really do there, but core gamers have already looked at the options and made up their minds. Maybe seeing battlefield 1 in 4K isn't as important as being able to play it with friends, maybe standing on principle of not paying for online play is more important than playing uncharted. So as far as objectively goes, I think that varies from gamer to gamer.

To be fair though, blaming the platform for lazy devs isn't a good thing and that goes for all platforms (Arkham Knight) since it's almost the same as giving them a free pass. I would think that the most open source platform has plenty of resources and references for any team attempting to tackle development on PC to learn as they go and get it right eventually or at the very least hire people who can work on PC ports/games. Not sure what the deal with Bioshock is, but like Fable Anniversary, it looks like I'm paying for a slightly nicer looking game. I don't think remasters are good for the industry if all they do is pretty up some things here and there. Sadly a lot of Sony remasters are just allowing the game to run at a higher resolution.

I don't understand hostility being the tactic used to get people to follow something either. I'll tell the companies themselves to go suck an egg all day, but gamers should help out and embrace other gamers. I'm also not sure if "recruiting" for PC is the right thing to do, but I genuinely think that consoles are going to die soon. There's just so many things mirroring the video game crash of 83. Computers are entering households faster than ever, there's too many consoles on the market or at least there will be in 2017, there's too many broken/unfinished game. The last thing can't really affect PC since PC is a platform that hosts platforms and two of the biggest platforms allow for self publishing so they don't take a hit if a game fails. If a game fails on consoles, plenty of people take a hit. Even if Steam died, PC would still allow for fairly simple self publishing on a game devs own website thanks to how different the internet is today. You just can't have everything in one place any longer. I also think MS has a contingency plan if consoles do die and that's their own Windows store. I'm not sure how good it is since they still want console like control over people, but I'm sure they have a backup. The people at Sony also outright stated that they want to keep people from hopping from console to PC. That's the whole point of these mid gen upgrade. To compete with PC. As for Nintendo, I think they'll have to pull out of the console industry if the NX doesn't do well and if it is just another gimmick instead of Gamecube 2.0, then I honestly do think it'll fail. I think the final nail in the coffin for consoles is if we can get i5 2500k and GTX 760-770 performance for less than $200 and I can see that happening before x86 meets its theoretical limit and further improvements are impossible.

I really don't care about any of these companies, but again I do care about my fellow gamers. Several companies made my PC components, but they can't dictate what I do with them once they leave the factory so it's still an open platform that will give everyone a chance to enjoy it.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I do think open source technology in general is the future of everything.

I feel remaster is good for the industry when done right. MS seems to get this, and their remasters in general are stellar. Gears: UE is the best remaster I have seen. Every texture, and almost every sound has been redone. Every animation has been redone, and the MP part is revamped to modern standards.

I own a PC, a PS4 and an XB1 (and a slew of older consoles from Nintendo Wii to SNES and so on), but PC's openness is mostly fake. Nvidia locks the games to perform better on their GPU, and this affects like 80-90% of the games, because they have a good 80% of the market. Lots of Nvidia features like g-sync is non-standard and again locks you to Nvidia. You are locked to Windows, because most other attempts at an alternative is bad, very bad. SteamOS/Linux isn't a good alternative, and the closest to an alternative is OSX. While Steam is the dominant game DRM to the point where other services are just selling Steam keys, and PC gamers are all chanting Steam, Steam, Steam or no buy!

That is the reality. PC gamers aren't welcoming new entrants into the market, they aren't embracing them, yet they will champion openness as a token argument.

And yes, PC part manufacturers are indeed dictating what you can do with your hardware. You are just oblivious to it, because they just gave you part of the stick while holding the other, while grabbing a profit from selling you the hardware.

I enjoy PC gaming, and just built an i5-6600k and 1070 (to me) monster with Windows 10, and I plan to get Scorpio next year (and skipping PS4 Pro since I just got another PS4 this past xmas), but as you say they all have advantages and disadvantages. None of them are really what they purport to be.

I hear you on multiple points there. Know that I don't give them a pass when it comes to PC versions running like crap. In fact, I find it offensive to all gamers as PC players ten to be the ones who cough up the extra cash in order to get the best visuals, frame rates, and just overall polish. When a dev, craps on that version, they're basically saying "cash first, you all if we can get to you". As a primarily playstation gamer, that means that if another platform suddenly becomes top dog sales wise, then less care gets put on my platform of choice. I
don't want that for me, so I'm not kosher with to happening to others. My point was more that with fact being that PC versions of games tending to have more issues than console counterparts, a consumer might be nudged to go with a console to avoid that.
Remasteres I can take or leave. If I never played the game, sure, I'll bite if it catches my interest. If I feel I got more than $60 worth of enjoyment out of the game, sure I'll toss a few more bucks their way. but If It's just prettier graphics on a game I found mediocre, I pass.

I can't argue with the ret of what you said. It might turn out that way, might not. Personally I can consoles as we know them dying. But I think xbox will merge with PC through the windows store and beome what steam machines were meant to be. PlayStation I see far superior PSnow becoming playstation in 1 or 2 more generations. And I thank the heavens for mobile, it seems to be doing a great job of keeping garba titles off other platforms.

That said, no, the PS4 pro doesn't offer a dedicated PC gamer (even on a mid range 500-600 USD PC) much they don't already have, and that's actually cheaper equal to or cheaper than the PS4 Pro if you factor in the cost of PS+ for online. I can do 4k/30 (I don't because 1080 or 1440 on high settings looks bette4,) I can do HDR. A few exclusives (Ie bloodborne and Persona 5) and that's basically it.

I can handle the PCMR ribbing, its just plain stupid anyways. What always irked me was the specs war, the notion that someone's desire to play a game is based entirely on the resolution being output by the machine.

That and the 400-500 machine being a better experience than a PS4. That kind of money doesn't get Canadians even close to a complete machine, factor in OS, monitors, keyboard, mice, desk, computer chair and you're looking at far more than $400 CAD. I bought a 960 when it came out and that alone was more than half the $400-500 budget people like to throw around.

Console is better due to be able to play on couch with a gamepad. That is what console gamers say. That is opinion.

PC gaming can be played with whichever gaming input device you choose. PC gaming can be hook to tv and be played with gamepad along with kb and m. That is a proven fact. Look at your tv manual, it shows step by step how to hook PC to tv.

Consoles have better exclusives than PC. That is what console gamers say and that is terrible because it depends on what games the person likes to play. If I want to play shmups or rts games the PC is the better option.

Mods change the game. That is what PC gamers say and is also a proven fact. Play modded skyrim, watchdogs, any fallout game. The differences are huge.

Agreed. This is one time that I have to agree with Pachter. s45 lamented that console gamers are "stuck in the nineties". That isn't a condescending statement at all... /s Kind of a nonsensical statement since many of the console gamers here weren't even born in the nineties.

I must confess that I have a gaming laptop, but I am primarily a console gamer. If I didn't sit in front of a computer all day I would probably be more enthusiastic about going home and sitting in front of a computer for an additional four hours. That kind of protracted engagement with a PC is just depressing to me. This is primarily why I prefer the plug-and-play nature of the console.

Unfortunately, from the perspective of a member of the PC master race, I am marooned in the gimped "console bubble" where sub-4K gaming is the norm.

What these PC elitists don't get is that many of us prefer the games that are released exclusively within the Sony ecosystem. Sony's first-party produces some of the best games in the entire industry. This is of course a subjective point of view, but millions of other gamers seem to agree with me.

I really couldn't care less about building some beast rig that is going to be outdated eighteen months later and require the purchase of another $500 gfx card.

I am generalizing, but the PC elitists seem to think that they ascended to some kind of gaming nirvana just because they snub the "inferior" consoles. It is a pompous and condescending attitude and it really just reflects poorly on their sub-culture as a whole.

For example, the GTX 970 came out 2 years ago, and still plays games better than XBone or PS4 (its around 200$ now btw), and it always will. You also seem to forget that the current consoles will be outdated next year by scorpio and ps4 pro(ps4 pro is about the same as 970). Most PC gamers don't give a crap about 4k gaming, its more about framerate now (since we've been at 1080p for years), because we use a mouse which requires higher response times to reach its potential. How, I used to play on consoles. I just visited my high school buddy to play on his PS4. Look pay to play online is terrible (pay the isp provider plus Playstation Network or Xbox Live why?)

I applaud Microsoft for bringing back backwards compability, allowing Bethesda to implement mods and its early access program. Now, I would of buy a Xbox One system but every xbox one exclusive is coming to PC. So, why should I buy a system that offers me the same games. That I would like to know.

PS4 Pro offers upscale 4K, 30 frames per second. There is no mention of an upgrade program. 1080p 60frames per second is not guarantee for every PS4 game played on Pro. No UHD blu-ray disc support 👿. No mod support. Come on, so I buy the system for just one or two exclusives umm no.

Finally, I am looking forward to the NX. That is if it is a hybrid system. The idea to play your games at home and on the go is innovating, intriguing and what the Wii U should of been from the start. Its possible to do it through a gaming laptop but a gaming laptop costs more than $1,000. So Nintendo NX is the console that I may end up buying.

I played consoles since the NES (spy hunter using vehicle that turn into a motorcycle or boat had to enter a red van to repair the vehicle and the choppers were annoying as hell)

Ask me about PC gaming history and my mind is blank.

I have met so many fanboys on every side and I believe it is the most popular console every year that has the worst fanboys by a far margin. 360 was awful, when I was PS3, and now PS4 is awful when I am primarily PC. I find that even the real, because PCMR is satire, PC fanboys relay facts instead of relying on emotions/insults and rubbing exclusives in our face when PC has exclusives and, if you emulate PS2, GC, Wii/U, exclusives as well. What makes me laugh is when they blow off our exclusives when we could do the same. That is out of about more than 200 million gamers on PC (125 mn on Steam, the rest of them on other games like LOL), still I'm excluding the pirates which I assume will be millions more, so like less than 0.001 percent of the total PC gamers. Also as for the arguments, no one argues on whether their PCs are better, they argue and gain knowledge about the tech you mentioned. Well, at least PCs have objective benefits, consoles few objective, largely subjective benefits, unlike your skin pigmentation (except, like, black people burn in the sun less easily due to melanin?) which has basicly no benefits, except possibly in some social interactions.

Large majority of people playing on these platforms are also doing so by their own free will, and can almost whenever they want to change their main platform. Transistion to PC maybe a little less so, but it would only take a little bit more saving to get a decent PC, so only restricting factor is time. I would suggest going with about 600$/€ if you want to go PC either way, instead of the barebones 400$/€ budget build.

When I was a teenager I had consoles(since nes till ps1) and played also on pc, time passed and I´ve got fully into consoles, xbox360,ps3 and now ps4. What I cannot get it is why this Bull... around "mine is better or this is better, or this is worse". Sure a PC can do a better graphical work but also you need to stay upgrading a lot for certain specs. Graphics nowadays are so good, that if majority of those people stop and realize that we have so much good stuff around. If you are wanting the best graphics possible then PC is the superior platform; belief has nothing to do with it. I'm not ignorant of the Sony/Microsoft consoles, I just can't see the point when I have a PC with superior performance. Complaining that the top 10 games on Steam are ancient is stupid. PC games have way more longevity and way more active communities than console games, and looking at the top 10 on Steam illustrates that point. Dota 2 and CS:GO have more active players than any console game (except maybe COD). TF2 is 10 years old and still kicking, and the rest of the list is comprised of games from the last year or two that are still being played tens of thousands of people at any given moment.

Another outright lie. Most PC gamers I know don't update their hardware regularly. They'll refresh their systems every 3-4 years or when games start to get harder to run, but it's not like everyone is rolling with a GTX 1080 system. Having good hardware allows you (the user!) to choose how that power is spent. You have the flexibility to custom tailor your experience to your personal preferences and gaming habits. Is a $500 GPU overkill for a person who plays Rocket League? Yeah, probably, but pairing that up with a 144 Hz monitor elevates you to a whole other plane of reality because of how smooth it plays.

Like what? Every feature todays consoles have has been done before on PC, and only after it reaches critical mass do those features trickle into console ecosystems. Online play was pioneered on PC, and the online experience on PC is still far better today than it is on consoles. Game streaming/recording has existed forever on PC, and only made it to consoles recently, and with numerous restrictions that govern what you're allowed to do. User generated content has existed forever on PC, and is just now gaining steam on consoles. Digital sales have been pioneered on PC over the last decade, and multiple competing marketplaces drive the costs to consumers down. Virtual reality, also pioneered on PC.

The list goes on. But bringing it back to your original point about the "blockbuster" experience, most games that are not published by platform holders make it to PC, and there's a whole world of games and experiences on PC that will never make it to consoles either.

Its not fair to generalise in such a way however I definitely see a lot of nonsense from some sections of the PC elitist camp when it comes to gaming. There seems to be a complete lack of awareness from some sections within the PC community of the importance of the console market, particularly in the AAA sector. Without the money generated by games sales on console the majority of AAA games would never see a release on PC, as was suggested by the developers of CDProject a few months ago.

There is also a complete lack of willingness to accept that many people don't want a PC, they like the convenience of console gaming and are willing to sacrifice performance for a nice simple, plug and play experience.

I played on console since NES and bought a PS4 on launch day. I started PC gaming in November 2015 so I've definitely been more of a console gamer than a PC one. The main reason I like PC better is because I don't support P2P online and I know a game I buy today will work two generations from now and automatically be remastered simply by better hardware.

Well, SOME - not all, but some - are arrogant and do act like twits at times, so, he's not too far off there, but console gamers are no better. It is what it's always been - personal preference and the ability to respect other's preference. Younger gamers have a harder time understanding that than older gamers. Personally, I prefer the ease and convenience of a console, knowing I can play the hottest, newest games on a system that I don't have to constantly worry about upgrading the hardware. Maybe the games won't look as great as they could, but they still look great to me. But TBH, I think we're about 10 years away from seeing PC and consoles merge - call it a super system that can do everything PCs can do, as conveniently as a console. Talk about gross generalizations. Painting the majority with the same broad brush is never a good thing, nor is it particularly accurate. I'm a pc gamer, who also owns multiple consoles and always has, including a ps4, ps3, 360, NES, SNES, Genesis, and most likely next year an NX and Scorpio. I have a fairly monstrous pc, and it will get even more monstrous in the near future when the new gpu's from AMD and Nvidia are released and I upgrade my motherboard and cpu as well, but I would never look down on anybody for not choosing to go the pc route.

For me personally, the pc is very expensive, generally because I tend to stay ahead of the curve, which means updating pretty regularly. Not everyone can afford everything. I've gone through stages where I definitely preferred consoles, then I preferred the pc, back to console....I just love games, period. The more the better. And the bottom line is that if you're not gaming on pc, you're missing some great exclusives. If you're not gaming on console, you're missing some great exclusives. There is the truth.

Star Craft is LEGENDARY, Star Citizen, even in its current state, looks better than any PS4 game except maybe Uncharted 4 at times, and plays better than any flight/space game. Arma is fantastic, and actual army simulator, Mount & Blade is awesome, Counter Strike is the most watched and played FPS competitive game right now and without the original, you wouldn't have your CoD.

no joke, I had a roomate living with me a few months back who was a "PC master race" kinda dude and it was ridiculous. He talked up his pc so much cuz he spent 2 grand on it and talked mad shite about how xbox one and ps4 were garbage and not able to put out the high quality his pc could. He talked down so much I was finally like, "well show me whats up then." So he puts on fallout 4 with max graphics and it ran sub 20 fps. I told him i couldnt watch that crap cuz it was too choppy so he put the graphics down a bit to mid range and it was still a little rough and barely 30 but it kept stuttering still.

So we went into the living room and i put on fallout 4 for xbox one and he was blown away at how smooth it ran and the relativly high grade graphics effects. Then he stated that its ok but id never realize its full potential on x1 because i would " never be able to use mods." I immediately booted up my mods and he was shook! Then he's like, "o but games like divinity orginal sin and diablo dont play right or look good on console." so i showed him both and he literally got pissed at me for "trying to show him up" lol.

His pc was overpriced outdated junk and we had a huge falling out over it. He decided not to pay me rent that month instead shelling out 500 for a new gfx card and power supply for his pc to try to show off, but I just kicked his bitch ass out instead lol. Hope his pc provides him a good peace of mind cuz hes back living with his parents. These pc kids are freakin brainwashed.

I have both PS4 and Xbox One, that being said why should a PC gamer give two fucks about a console that's not even out and specs-wise obsolete?

Most of us already have video cards that are beyond 4.2 Teraflops, my last card was a GTX970 on SLi, my current a GTX1080 pushing about 8.6Tfps solid Native 4K. Which by the way Teraflops don't mean shit if you're using "overclock CPUs" from 3 years ago that are technically bottlenecked.

So hell no, I would never invest on a console promising 4K that "upscales" by "using specialized rendering techniques" lol get that fuck out here.

Ask yourself this, how much premium 4K content aside from "series" does these services offer? None, aside from good series like Narcos, House of Cards, and Breaking Bad the rest is shitty movies about animals and shit that don't even break 3 star ratings. I have both Netflix 4K, and Amazon 4K apps on my Samsung KS9500 so trust me I looked. The only way I been able to enjoy actual movies (The Revenant, The Martian, Mad Max, Creed) on 4K is only through....a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player!! I dont see these studios giving out their license to their 4K movies and new release content for streaming purposes anytime soon specially if it was a bad ass movie, unless you're planning to pay full price of the movie for a digital download. This is exactly why Sony is full of shit, so is Pachter.

PS4 Pro is failure in my opinion and I been enjoying 4K gaming for a year and half, and now with upcoming 4K movie titles like Suicide Squad, Captain America Civil War and other movies I ask once again How in that fuck are these consumers are going to be able to enjoy those movies without a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray?
