7 Reasons To Be Excited About Final Fantasy XV

There's plenty of great reasons why Square Enix's upcoming RPG is simply Noct to be missed.

Problem is the hype is currently outweighing what the product will realistically be, yet people are setting their expectations sky high, possibly doing is on purpose, so they can shit talk the game when it comes out. Kind of like the sad fate in which No Man's Sky & Order 1886 suffered. Being cautiously optimistic is always your best bet.

randomwannab2770d ago

I can agree with you to a certain point, but No Man's Sky was expected by many to be a game that nobody promised it would be. By playing Episode Duscae and the Platinum Demo, I can tell that the combat is going to be incredible, and considering it's a Final Fantasy, there's going to be tons of different weapons and hidden components. This is where I draw my hype from, simply because it's something I can rely on (because I have played around with these already).

PhoenixUp2771d ago

I was first excited about this game when I learned in 2006 it was being created by the team behind KH1 & KH2

phoenixwing2770d ago

I feel the game is way too much of a sausage fest which has tempered my expectations. Mainly because it'll be mostly about the bonds between a bunch of men which I'm not saying can't be done well it's just that it's not very exciting to me. A story with a more diverse cast would have kept my interest better in my opinion. However, I am still excited for the game and have it on pre-order. I think that the combat will be surprisingly enjoyable to more people. I would have liked them to add difficulty levels in the game like the tales of series does.

sdcard4gb2770d ago

I hope that by "a more diverse cast" you are talking about creatures of different races and heavily different designs between each other (like in IX) and not just about there being a lack of vaginas.
Also, the fact that the game is more inclusive and enjoyable for more people automatically means Final Fantasy basically changed a very substantial part of itself to cater for people who most likely would not have cared for it otherwise in order to improve sales. I always thought that gaming franchises should hold dear their personality and traits and not cater to other audiences... I guess that's what happens in the world of bloated excess of graphics and ridiculous development times... Soon we'll be playing one and the same game and forgetting that once those were actually different franchises with absolutely different gameplay.
PROGRESS !!!

phoenixwing2770d ago (Edited 2770d ago )

More races, cultures, and *gasp* yes even women would have been appreciated. Also I'd argue that most final fantasy games have had women as well as other races in their games. So your assertion that it "automatically" changed is just not correct. I also would like to point out that I said it was just my personal opinion of MY excitement for a game. I didn't claim all games should cater to me at all, I just added how it affects me.

Your assertion that a franchise should hold dear their personality and traits pretty much says that for the most part final fantasy games should be pretty diverse instead of the very narrowed selection of 1 guy and 3 other guys all from the same city. Which has only happened recently and not in their past games.

Elda2770d ago

I'm still excited for the release of FFXV! Can't wait to play!

sdcard4gb2770d ago

I am not expecting anything from SE these days. XV just doesn't look anything like FF of old, could as well just be called something else.
I really hope XV's action combat is just one-time only thing... Uh, nope, it's in FF VII remake too, never mind...
The only thing I am expecting is that the game will spawn tons of yaoi art, but that's pretty obvious as it is.
It's really somewhat sad that in order to get the somewhat traditional Final Fantasy experience I have to play other gaming franchises like Bravely Default, for example, while the Final Fantasy franchise is twisting into a more suitable sex position for action fans to enjoy it instead of staying what it has always been.

Adrian_v012770d ago

Final fantasy never was about the turn based combat. Get out of here.

If u wanna argue that XV isn't FF at least come up with an original and solid argument. There have been FF action titles in the past, there will be in thw future.

sdcard4gb2770d ago (Edited 2770d ago )

Yeeeeeeeah, riiiiiiiight, not about turn based combat XD
Next you'll be telling me Silent Hill was not about psychological horror.
Not a single one numbered original game in the series had non-turn-based combat. If you are trying to make a point that Crisis Core, Dirge Of Cerberus and Type-0 had action controls then you should also remember how shitty those games were in terms of combat XD
Wanna make a true FF game - make it the way they were always done, don't destroy the heart of the series.

Goldby2770d ago

Sorry SDcard, i'm with Adrian on this one,

Final Fantasy isn't about the turn based combat, when i think of Final Fantasy i don't think turn based combat, i think of the stories that are out of this world yet grounded at the same time, the connection the cast has between each other and the sacrifices the protagonist has to make in the journey.

if you think Final Fantasy is only turn based why did the creators decide to make the movies and the newer games action oriented and not just everyone standing in a row in timers square taking turns fighting.

The turn based combat was used because it was able to best represent their vision at the time. and as tech advanced as well as the games, the combat advanced as well

Rippcity2770d ago (Edited 2770d ago )

Right there with yah sdCard. Doesn't matter if the tech limited the series back in the day, that's what it was and that's what the fans loved about it. It's not like we've been saying "Hey trash the turn based system and give us an action game!" Don't we have enough fucking action games? Create a new franchise if you want action (isn't that what Kingdom Hearts was for?) and keep FF the way it should be, turn based strategy. Going from turn based to action isn't a progression, it's a parallel shift. Neither one battle system is better than the other. Clearly there are a lot of people who still prefer the turn based battle system so saying that is how it should have progressed naturally is completely asinine. If turn based combat was a relic of the past, why is Persona 5 anticipated so highly given its ancient battle system?

Adrian_v012770d ago (Edited 2770d ago )

Wow, comparing atmosphere to gameplay, seriously?

Silent Hill has introduced several gameplay concepts through it's games, it didn't stay identical from game to game either so your example doesn't make sense.

As Silent Hill was always about psychological horror Final Fantasy was always about fantasy and magic with traditionally a save-the-world plot.

And the sales of the spin-offs mentioned, particularly the popularity of Crisis Core is proof enough that you're just biased in your opinion against everything that isn't turn-based.

Rippcity2770d ago

If turn based combat isn't an integral part of the essence of Final Fantasy and it's all about the fantasy, magic and story aspects, why don't they just stop making it a game all together and just make it a super action packed movie? I don't know anyone who got through FF solely based on the story and atmosphere alone. If the battle system doesn't resonate with you, you're not going to stick it out just to hear the story. Which is exactly what I did with crisis core. Played that piece of garbage for like ten minutes before I realized how utterly terrible it was and then just watched all of the cutscenes on YouTube.

Adrian_v012770d ago

I play through most of the games for story.

Again a stupid argument from your side. So every game that isn't strategic or turn based should just be a movie? With the same logic I can say that if FF is based on it's turn based combat and strategy why wasn't it made into a board-game?

There are gameplay types that I prefer, there are game mechanics that I can't stand, but I would never dismiss a game after 10 minutes just because it's action or turn-based or whatever, let alone dismiss it without even trying it out. This narrowsighted approach will only hurt you in the end, cause you'll be left with a very tiny library of games to play.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled7d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog139d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake138d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic137d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan138d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman139d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator138d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno138d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior139d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake138d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
