Thomcult: Last week Pandemic Studio's Mercenaries 2 found itself making the news with a great petrol give-away in north London. Representatives from the game's publisher EA commandeered a petrol station and began to give away £40 worth of free petrol to each customer who rolled into the forecourt.
After the dust has settled on events like this the question always remains as just how effective, useful or ethical they are. With all PR stunts it's important to look at what benefits can be surmised from the event, such as publicity, brand awareness etc. and weigh them up against any negatives, such as any damage to the brand image or even issues of legality.
