PS4 Firmware Update 4.00's Secret Neatest Feature

Push Square: "PlayStation 4's latest firmware update brings a lot of obvious advantages to the new-gen console, but as is so often the case, it's the "secret" features that are causing our pulse to race. Case in point: Spotify's integration with the system now runs so deep that it'll recommend playlists based upon what you're playing."

That's a neat feature!

Sony has done a fantastic job with the 4.0 update. After using it for for a few hours, I can say without a doubt that it's the fastest OS in a current-gen console.

Ashlen2774d ago (Edited 2774d ago )

Yea it's really fantastic.

I really like the new quick menu. And of course folders really tidy up the main menu. They did a good job of putting the things people want to see in places it's easy to see them. Lots of things are visible without having to click though menus anymore.

Nitrowolf22773d ago

I agree everything about this FW is superb.

Aside from folders, by far is the quick menu/Spotify. It was my biggest gripe with the Spotify app and having to back and and suspend each time.

My big complaint about it though is that it seems to have broken party chat for me and a frind. I'm sure they'll fix it though

Castlevania2773d ago

I really appreciate that they added folders, but the way they were implemented feels incomplete. For example, I wish I could pin folders in the order that I want. I made a folder for downloaded games, and another for demos. If I play a demo from the demo folder, it pushes that folder to the leftmost position. I want to keep demos to the right of downloaded games, but that isn't an option.

Aside from the above issue, when you sort items, there aren't pre-set sorting options; for example, if I want a list of 30 games inside a folder to be sorted in alphabetical order, I have to drag and drop the games manually. There are pre-set sorting options in library, though, so it doesn't make sense.

Maybe these will be addressed in later updates, but as of now I'm slightly disappointed.

There's another new feature, not sure if it was mentioned but the share button features let's you choose how far back it records up to 60 minutes. I never saw that option there before anyway, it only ever saved 15 minutes.

MilkMan2773d ago

The easier access to Spotify is pretty cool, what I love the most, though (because I have so many games on my hard drive) is the ability to manage my uploads and downloads better. I can choose multiple saves to upload and download as well. Rather than one at a time like before.
Also, I LOVE the folders option, what I need now is to be able to color code them as well, but this is a small thing. I love that I can put my games in different categories.
THANK YOU SONY, EXCELLENT UPDATE.

Mr_Writer852773d ago

". I can choose multiple saves to upload and download as well. Rather than one at a time like before. "

Ohhh I didn't know that! I was only thinking the other day how much of a pain that was!

Thanks for letting me know that pal great info!

MasterCornholio2773d ago

That's nice.

Didn't know that either.

GrubsterBeater2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

"I can choose multiple saves to upload and download as well. Rather than one at a time like before."

You could do that a long time ago, it isn't new to the update. What are you talking about? Lol

I have been able to do that for at least a year now.

MilkMan2773d ago

If it was there, it was super hidden. Every time I pressed option in the uploads or downloads I got something else. Like the ability to delete multiple saves. Never do multiple game uploads or downloads.
If it was there before, shame on me.

madmonkey012772d ago

i was never able to do it before this update

GrubsterBeater2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

@MilkMan

All you did was hit the check boxes before hitting upload or download when selecting saves. There was also a "select all" button on the right you could press. I haven't used the save download/upload system since the update, but I do know that it was there before.

If you didn't ever see it before, then who cares, as long as you know it is there now, and as long as you appreciate the feature as much as I do.

I still haven't tried using folders yet, but then again I never really cared for folders that much anyway. I never thought it was a big deal to just go through your games and select the one you wanted to play, and if it wasn't played recently then I would just hit library. Having folders is cool, and people wanted it and got it, but I never cared that much about the idea.

Can you use your own music? Spotify is garbage.

Genuine-User2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

You can.

Edit: through USB. Unfortunately you can't copy over MP3 files or CD's to the internal hard drive but you can listen to your collection through a USB stick.

opinionated2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

Bro... how? Plug in USB or download to system?

Kingthrash3602773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

Make a PS4\MUSIC FOLDER
English explanation:
On your pc download whatever music you want (or on your phone) connect your flash card to your pc ( connect your phone via USB charger and click your phone in the my computer menu also plug in your flash drive ) create a FOLDER in your flash drive named PS4...open the PS4 folder and create another folder named MUSIC inside it...drag your music and place it into the MUSIC FOLDER...done.
That'll be 200 gill

sullynathan2773d ago

I'll be using that from now on.

2773d ago
blackblades2773d ago

Don't see why you guys think it's bad to use via usb. I use it all the time, it's more accessible then ps3 for sure. Playlist is faster to create on computer to organize. With over 2500 songs it would take 20-30gb if it were internal. You guys are fools putting the usb music down.

thisgamer5032773d ago

@blackblades

I agree. The option of USB music is a plus in my book so you don't have to use internal storage for music. That and with current gen consoles only employing SATA2, we don't need any I/O being taken up just for music.

Ron_Danger2773d ago

You've been able to for a while now on PS4, you just need to have it on a USB stick or external USB hard drive.

daynnight3652773d ago

Idk if it's garbage, but I never used it and never plan to. Don't like streaming services, not my thing.
I like the way ps3 did music

NapalmSanctuary2772d ago

Look up MP3Gain. Its a free program that lets you adjust track volumes to equal levels. I used the hell out of it for GT6 and MC:LA. I know you didn't ask but its awesome for homemade game soundtracks.

Skate-AK2772d ago

TWB2773d ago

No offence, and I think its a cool feature and all, but I feel that this article is a repost?

I remember this part extremely vividly word for word:
"Case in point: Spotify's integration with the system now runs so deep that it'll recommend playlists based upon what you're playing."

Anybody can confirm this?

S2Killinit2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

I think you are talking about "based on what music you playing".

This is something completely different, this gives you songs that go along with games you want to play. So you can substitute the song with your game's background music, while you play.

TWB2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

No, I mean, I remember that there was an article with very similar title (I think it just said "PS4's new hidden feature" or something along those lines), and the part I quoted I remember being the exact same for that articles preview box, word for word as it is written here.

The only thing I dont remember, is the website that had that article. This is why I asked if anyone else remembered something like this.

Gotta see if I can find it... at least article publish date and video upload date hold water for this being a new post.

kevnb2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

did they fix the sound quality? On my ps4 spotify sounds like turd compared to any other device. For some odd reason it doesnt even send a signal to my subwoofer either.

kevnb2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

how is my tv affecting my sound system?
other people have noticed it as well.
https://community.spotify.c...

you really cant say anything even remotely negative about sony around here... I do have spotify premium as well, it sounds fine on every other device. connected through hdmi.

S2Killinit2772d ago

I dont know mine sounds dandy. When you say yours sounds bad, what do you mean exactely?

The_Sage2773d ago

Spotify is 2 channel, unless you upgrade to premium. I'm not sure why your sub is not getting a signal though... Unless your amp is an old one and your running discreet audio.

ninjazfistz2773d ago

Please tell us your setup and maybe we can help better. It works for me

Roronoa04112772d ago

It sounds great on my PS4 so maybe its how you have your sound system set up.
