The firm said today that sales of Wii games will reach 21 million this year, up from an earlier target of 17 million. The company believes it will sell every Wii console it can make between now and April.
Boosted by strong sales of Wii and DS, Nintendo has raised its profit forecast by 28% to 1.5bn for the year to 31 March.
Analyst Edwin Merner at Atlantis Investment Research said, "Nintendo is going like gangbusters, and the Wii consoles are selling like hotcakes. They have momentum, and I think you can expect them to surpass earnings estimates for the next year or two. They are bringing a lot of software into the market and that is where they are going to make the money, not on the consoles."
