Why the hell are these developers so scared of releasing their game sales numbers or even allowing a site to guess their game sale numbers? Do they have numbers to hide... from their employees (to pay them less) or from the IRS (to pay less taxes)?

I agree with Steam Spy. F**k these developers that want to hide their numbers. When someone makes such a fuss to hide their numbers, it's never for a good reason.

This is a very sensitive information. When and if you have a business running, will you post exactly how much units you have sold, how much income does it make?
Yeah, thought so...

lodossrage2786d ago

They will if the numbers and data are in their favor.

Companies have done this before there was ever a such thing as consumer electronics. If they numbers are good, companies will more than likely (not all the time) make a point to announce said numbers.

And the vice versa is true. If the numbers and data are unsatisfactory, they aren't always going to be quick to let that be known (not all the time).

So yeah, it is considered sensitive information. But make no mistake, they will share it depending on if it benefits them or not.

BS.
I guess you like to hide info about sales even to the IRS. Continue like that and maybe you'll receive a visit from them one of these days.

If you are that secretive about sales numbers then you are likely committing something illegal.

God Bless SteamSpy !

Of all the businesses, Gaming sales is one of the most secretive one. Hell we know budgets and daily/weekly revenue of movies just when they get released for free. Even Music industry is not as secretive with their numbers as Gaming is.
Even NPD got ruined with the "Top revenue" BS, rather than good old "no. of units sold" metric.

The only reason this is news is because one group of devs lived in Mexico and claimed they didn't want people knowing their sales data, which is flawed as SS doesn't release sales number, just units moved. Also, group is so small, it would be less likely anything happened to them compared to a foreign tourist. The only other reason is to hide negative data from consumers.

Are you implying that violence and kidnapping in Mexico is not a huge gigantic deal?

Are you implying that violence and kidnapping outside of Mexico is not a huge gigantic deal?

Palitera2785d ago

Depending on the country you are, yeah, that's what I'm saying. Violence in Mexico is terrible.

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.
