No Man's Sky Honest Trailer [Satire]

The Honest Trailer folks on Youtube have turned their sites on No Man's Sky.

Tedakin2798d ago

Lives were threatened, and people who questioned anything about this game were attacked for 2 years.... and this is what we got...

gangsta_red2798d ago

Yup, I remember asking specifically what else is there to do in the game was lynched by the mob as they told me there would be plenty to do and to go do some research.

Turns out there was actually nothing to do in the game.

Psychotica2798d ago

So you can't fly a ship, gather resources, explore, craft etc? Are you really just stuck at the title screen?

gangsta_red2798d ago

"Are you really just stuck at the title screen?"

I would have had more fun if that were true.

"So you can't fly a ship, gather resources, explore, craft etc?"

You should have stopped at gather resources because that's all you do, hence my first comment.

Palitera2798d ago (Edited 2798d ago )

^ Not true at all.

Also puzzles, survival, combat...

gangsta_red2798d ago

@Palitera

You're really starting to reach now, you can also say it has colors, sound, stuff, etc. etc.

Point is those functions mentioned aren't a huge part of the game and what's there is sloppy and feels half way done and the core of the game, what you will be doing 99% of the time is boring and uneventful.

spoilerjerk2798d ago (Edited 2798d ago )

When I read things like... "So you can't fly a ship, gather resources, explore, craft etc?" or "Also puzzles, survival, combat..." it makes me laugh because there is only one gameplay mechanic behind all of it...

Yes, you can fly a ship by constantly grinding resources to repair/refuel launch thrusters/pulse engines.
Yes, you can gather resources. In fact that's what you'll spend most of your time doing.
Yes you can explore by grinding for resources to recharge your life support and shields.
Yes, you can craft by grinding for resources to craft items to grind more resources.
Yes, you can survive. Once again, by grinding for resources.
Yes, there is combat with the same exact 3 sentinels found on all 18+ quintillion planets but you can't get into "combat" if you don't have the right resources for your multiool.
Yes, you can visit with paraplegic aliens who have the inability to walk or even talk to you if your inventory is full.
Yes, you can learn 3 languages that have absolutely no impact on the game but you'll grind through 150 of them to get that trophy.
Yes, you can visit no two worlds alike (desert, snow, water, grass) by grinding resources to warp in your ship.
Yes, every space station you visit has the same interior decorator.
Yes, there are elemetnary level number puzzles.
Yes, every single settlement and shelter are the same structure in different colors.
And YES, it is OK to admit that No Man's Sky isn't a very good game.

I was able to get most of my money back this week on Amazon thanks to an eager buyer on my NMS limited edition I had pre-ordered. This was after I maxed out inventory slots on the exosuit/starship/mulitool. I completed the Atlas Path which was quite the anti-climatic quest but not even close to as anti-climatic as getting to the center of the universe. Once you max everything out there is nothing else to do because maxing everything out is the only thing TO DO. I was in denial for that first week, pretending it wasn't really that bad... I was wrong.

I have to admit I laughed watching this video. :-) I'll rent it through Game Fly most likely.

gangsta_red2798d ago

I rented this through Gamefly and I thank the gaming gods everyday that I did.

How is this satire when what the reviewer said in the video is true? I bought it for PC and haven't touch it after the first day. The worst $60 I'd ever wasted.

Neonridr2798d ago

only get a refund if you are under 2 hours I believe.

Christopher2798d ago (Edited 2798d ago )

All Honest Trailers are Satire. Satire doesn't mean false, it means it's only intended to be used as a form of humor or ridicule.

Gunstar752798d ago

Jeeeeezus. This was a small English independent developer who got thrust into AAA territory by Sony.
If this game didn't have the hype machine behind it then it would have been far better received, but would never have had the short term gains $$$$'s
Shame on Sony and shame on the industry

Omnisonne2798d ago

They should have stuck with a 20-25 pricetag I think, then it would be OKish

At its current state, and i won't lie about it, its gets bland quick. I played the first few days but past week haven't had a single urge to continue, which is usually a bad sign. I really really hope they'll add stuff in the future, for everyone's sake

The 10th Rider2798d ago

I kind of agree with you that the developers got thrust into AAA territory and AAA expectations after being picked up by Sony. The game would have been far better off with a low key release a year or so ago on just PC as early access. . . After updates and fan feedback, they could port it to consoles.

However, I can't really blame Sony as the whole reason they picked it up was because the game looked so promising right from the first trailer.

mogwaii2798d ago

If sean murray didnt lie to our faces it would have been better recieved.

Artemidorus2797d ago

No it still would of been rubbish and not as many would of pre ordered.

uth112797d ago

People were sucked in by the original trailers before any details were given on the game.

A lot of us said exploring procedurally generated planet after procedurally generated planet might get old quick and planets would probably look samey after awhile. People didn't want to hear it. They had their own ideas of what the game would be.

Now that they've played it, some people are trying to convince themselves the reason they don't enjoy the game is they were lied to. But the hype existed for this game long before Sean gave any of those interviews people give as "proof".

This game was just never going to be for everybody.

spicelicka2797d ago

Honestly glad MS is allowing Recore to be sold at $40, if the game turns out to be shit at least the price reflects the content.

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos36d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts36d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook736d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka36d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka36d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

Neonridr36d ago

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz36d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos36d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1736d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca36d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.
