Any fan of the horror genre, or really any self-respecting gamer for that matter understands the importance of the Resident Evil franchise in video games. By no means is Resident Evil the first horror game, but it did spark the survival horror genre that we have come to know and generally expect from the type. The first game in the franchise released in March of 1996 and in the two decades that followed, the games have had their share of ups and downs. Progressively, the Resident Evil franchise took slow and steady steps away from survival horror into more blatant action with horror elements peppered across the surface. Such is clearly noticeable come games four, five, and six. The most recent game to adorn any relation to Resident Evil is the not so anticipated Umbrella Corps which even defines itself as a tactical shooter with no mention of the genre which the franchise was built on. Horror fans have been desperate for a return to the roots that made Resident Evil so important, and finally, with Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, the franchise may finally be returning home.

Eternal Darkness was way ahead of its time especially for a Nintendo exclusive.
I would love to see a remake or sequel (multiplatform)

In a very recent development, Capcom has announced that the VR mode for the “Resident Evil 4” remake is scheduled to be added on the 8th of December as an update and will support the full main story campaign, offering an unprecedented gaming experience to its users. However, RE Series fans have another reason to rejoice as there is a possibility that RE Series might get a VR Version in the future.
Been a long time fan and am one of those rare one's that liked 4, 5, and 6. From what I've seen so far this is not at all what I want. However since I'm a mega-fan I'll still play it. I'm just hoping it'll be more recognizable as a RE game than what they've shown so far.
RE7 ... Returning to roots ? Fans ?
I think the development vision of RE7 was crystal clear to everybody
if you want to talk about fans be more specific on what type of "fans" are you referring to
I'm sorry but I don't think us oldschool fans were waiting for another Outlast / Amnesia / P.T clone and looks exactly like thousands of first person indie horror games .. i'm an oldschool RE fan and this game is NOT for me .. case closed.
