Hardware Market Shares Thru' 2010

New figures from SFG Research have placed Xbox 360 as North American market-leader through 2010, with Wii a distant third over the next four years. But it's a different story worldwide, where PS3 is predicted to lead by 2008.

In its new report, published today, the company outlines its predictions for next generation console sales. The North American figures show Xbox 360 maintaining a market lead through to the end of the decade, losing very little increments of market share year-on-year. Despite its fine start, SFG gives Wii no better than a 20% settle-down market-share between the three companies. It gives Xbox 360 no less than 44% through to the end of 2010.

Worldwide stats also give Wii a settle-down of 20% with PS3 catching Xbox 360 by the end of this year, and over-taking in 2008. PS3 maintains its market-lead through 2010, taking small increments of share from Xbox 360...

Will is killing the PS3 in Japan, the 360 is killing both in the US. I don't think Sony will catch Microsoft, maybe Nintendo. Sony screwed up with the most expensive console in years with a controversial drive in it. It will not come in second, let alone first.

i agree sony has a lot to do.they still think the ps3 is the most powerful console on the market.which i disagree with.there aragance is letting sony down they need to conentrate on the ps3 and not on the oppstion.

Past wars that Sony should take note of:

PSX vs. N64 vs. Dreamcast (components)
Betamax vs. VHS
Gamegear vs. Gameboy

Let's say this is true. This is a very different picture from the last Gen where Sony dominated the market from day 1; taking Sony 2 years to catch up to microsoft when it comes to install base and probably not profitable.
I live in the US and if this is true I can care less that Sony dominates lets say in Japan. This simply shows that The XBox has a future and that it will continue to get support from 3rd party developers and there will be an XBox 3 which it's all XBox 360 fans care about.
Xbox 360 44% marketshare? How much gain is that compared to last gen?
I understand why these research companies predict that the PS3 will be on top. Research companies base their prediction on previous product preformance and brand recognition and that's why they can be wrong when no data is present. When they see the PS2 numbers from the previous Gen it's more likely that the PS3 will do good. This is why sometimes these prediction can be wrong, i.e. they predicted the ipod would fail back in 2001:

“I still can’t believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently! Why oh why would they do this?! It’s so wrong! It’s so stupid!” - By WeezerX80

“All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve’s mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off.” - By NobodySpecial

How can they be so wrong? Easly, cause they can't see into the future. Forecasting the success on any product is like what the wheather is going to be like 2 years from now. You simply look at the history and take some input from the current situation in the market and there! You may be 80% right or 80% wrong!

A simple mistake made by Sony can change everything, and some new feature from microsoft like IPTV can make the public interested specially if supported by other companies like att, comcast, timewarner, etc.

Keep an eye on this and don't move all your investing money into Sony because you hear that the PS3 will be #1.

This is an analysis - essentially a guess. It is also extremely flawed. What an analyst must do is make an educated guess an market trends. The only reference he\she has is last generation sales and trends.

This analyst has the Wii flopping ( doesn't look like it ) and the PS3 outselling the 360 4 to 1 in 2007 ( really , really doesn't look that way. ) The analyst is also flawed because for the PS3 to catch the 360 in market share like he has posted in 2007 the PS3 would have to sell at a 4 to 1 ratio BUT he has the 360 outselling the PS3 with a 15 million unit lead by the end of 2007 in North America.

Essentially for his World ratio the anylyst has both the 360 and the Wii flopping in Europe , this is not the case either. This analysis ( read: guess ) is subpar at best.
