Terry Smith writes: Final Fantasy 7 was released in 1997. I couldn’t read; my only friend was imaginary, (Shout out to Maurice, the space cowboy.) and I was addicted to turn-based role-playing games. The original PlayStation was a treasure trove of party based RPGs. Heck, the 90s were great for the genre, period. You had active time battles to speed up combat in games like FF7. You had games to reach kids like Pokémon and Digimon. You even had games like Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics to reach the more strategically minded.
Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld, has said that the studio plans to remain a small independent game developer.

I don't think it's really a matter of age. It's just a different kind of game, where stats matter more than dexterity, as with action games. So how you plan your party, your equipment and items and spells and attacks, matters more than anything else.
You know the stats are what matters in a turn-based RPG because it becomes impossible to progress further without leveling up. You hit a wall unless you become more powerful. But in an action-RPG if you are really good it might let you play all the way through without leveling, like in the Souls series.
A good turn-based RPG can usually plan out an adventure more precisely for the player than an action-rpg for these reasons. The exact equipment you need, the right levels for your characters, etc., is all planned out more step-by-step in the progression of a classic JRPG.
i can relate, I miss the turn based style. There was something about it when i was growing up that grabbed me and never let go.
Turn based rpgs are awesome. I miss them. Don't get me wrong, I do like some action rpgs as well, but I do feel like turn based requires more planning and preparations for big missions or tough bosses.
Having a blast with Tokyo Mirage Sessions right now.
Planning to buy Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Grand Kingdom, World of Final Fantasy, Persona 5, I Am Setsuna, among others.
I love turn based RPGs.
