Evil Avatar: Too Human Review

Evil Avatar writes: "I've been waiting for this game for quite a while, probably ever since I heard about it after the release of the fantastic Eternal Darkness on the GameCube. We've been waiting a long time for this game (Denis Dyack says it has only been in real development for 5 years) and although it doesn't fully garner the payoff we are probably seeking, it does bring a solid game to the table. At the end of the game, you begin to realize the game could have been so much more without the setbacks, changing of platforms and the return to square one that happened when the Unreal 3 Engine was dumped for an internal one."

The Good:
+The RPG elements are good for both novices and experts in the genre
+The music when present is fantastic
+The fun comes once you've learned the controls

The Bad:
-The graphics are serviceable
-During the first two stages, the game seems agonizing as you learn the controls
-Right analog stick attack controls are a problem in my mind, could have easily used face buttons

The Ugly:
-Watching those damn angels come down to pick you up

Graphics do the job but are not mind blowing as we expect, and the rpg elements are there but you have to wait for a couple of levels to fully enjoy them. good review.

The 2nd Installment coming? I beat this in about 14-15 hours and was wanting more. I leveled up a Bioenginer to level 28 and turned right around and started a new campaign with the same character. Am at level 34 and almost through the 2nd act. I also decided to start a new Hero character and so far am about 1/4 through the 2nd level and haven't died once. I love the Right analog attack scheme to me it really flows. Although I do agree with others out there that the camera is a little wonky. I keep using the R analog to control the camera but I have gotten better at this. I am just really addicted to this game atm. I would give this a 4.25 out of 5

Makes me want to play Gauntlet Dark Legacy again.

i think i agree with all the points.

i enjoyed the story, but the ending was a bit crap ( in a halo 2 kind of way ).

The controls are stupid, ok with time you can get use to them, but for the type of game it is, its not like there is any particular reason for them to have gone with this control scheme. It's like they just thought, Hey lets just make the controls like this.... ok why..... well, no reason...lets just do it cos its different.

There is just no real reason for it. infact they could have given him better and more combos to play around with had they used a more traditional layout.

In my opinion, its an ok game and i like see why some people like it and some hate it.

i wish it had just been a full RPG, with a combat system like NG2, but with a better camera. give it a bit better graphics and it would have been perfect.
