Its a scheme. It allows them to shoot down games during release window, then once the sales are damaged, they give the real score thus no one can come back and say wtf IGN why did you rate this game so low.

I get not every reviewer will give it a 10 but how does IGN seriously give Black Ops 3 a 9.2 and then gives (so far) Uncharted 4 an 8.8?

Uncharted 4's trailers are better than Black Ops 3.

Edit: I get it is two different reviewers, but if most critics used a legitimate 1-10 scale system then I highly doubt Black Ops 3 would fall into the 9's or even 8's. Uncharted 4, from the majority of released reviews, have all concluded that it is a near perfect game. I'm not saying an 8.8 is bad, far from it, even in the 7's is still a "good game" in my eyes. I never trust IGN with reviews anyways, but to look at the list of their scores and see Uncharted 4 behind a Call of freaking Duty game is outright bullshit to me. Naughty Dog are objectively better developers than any of the 100 Call of Duty devs.

It's almost like Brian & Lucy work for the same company. The fact that two different reviewers are giving completely absurd scores to both games doesn't matter as no matter what it brands the company name to those scores. It seems as though IGN needs to reassess the people they choose to do their reviews on AAA big name games. When people like Lucy & Brian get as much flak as they do for delivering inconsistent reviews based on negative comments from their followers who seem to know more than the reviewers themselves, than as a common sense business decision you would no longer give those two AAA big name titles like one of the most anticipated PS4 title of the year.

That doesn't mean they're outright saying they think BO3 is better, it's just 2 different reviews for 2 different games. It's not like the reviewer was thinking "hmmm it's 0.4/10 weaker than cod... I'll see what that got and review uncharted accordingly."

Another example is they gave Alienation an 8.7, that doesn't mean they compared UC4 to that and thought that it's .1 better.

How about the fact that Bo3 has one of the most robust multiplayer?
Last I checked this part isn't reviewed yet in Uc4

Or the fact the game include 2 quest mode (normal and nightmare)
Or that Quest also include some endurance mode where you have some virtual challenge
Does Uncharted 4 include some other mode in the quest?

Or also the fact that Bo3 also as a incredible zombie mode with its own Story, lore that could put to shame a lots of multiplayer mode from other games.

There's a reason why so many ppl still play BO2 today and it's because of the abundance and quality of contant in the game.

Now I don't know about Uc 4 cause , like you, I have yet to play it but no matter the score it will get in the end, it should be in regards with UC4 worth and not comparing to other game

This game hasn't come out yet so how can you say the people commenting know more about the game then they do? Most of the people who are upset are only being vocal towards the score rather then the review itself, Eurogamers video review was very similar in its pros/cons but you didn't see people raging there because they don't use review scores.

I'm picking up the Special Edition day one but i fail to see how 8.8 is so horrible, she did say she found the 3rd act sluggish and the thrills are more predictable, whether or not this is true is unknown because i & most of the people watching theses videos have not played it yet. Plus it's a review in progress so they may end up saying it 9+.

I've never played an Uncharted for multiplayer I understand that people like it and enjoy it but I just don't see it a huge part of the game for me personally to care about its condition.

Well it will be raised if they have any review credibility once multiplayer is added. You can't just exclude a entire major section of the game without raising the score once it is added and viewed as replay value, fun, solid contribution to the overall value. As a matter of fact if 1 whole point isn't added onto the score after the multiplayer? I can't take them seriously anymore. It's a major consideration that if is any good warrants another full 2 points in some cases. It should in fact be a 10 if this is just single player value. No points raised is not acceptable

You know that IGN cannot be taken seriously when it gives mediocre games like COD Black Ops 3 a higher score than Uncharted 4! Most other sites are gives the game 9s and 10s. IGN has become a 'pay for high scores' site in my opinion, usually favouring Microsoft games. I guess Sony did not want to pay for your review since they felt that a dev like Naughty Dog would aspire to make a game that gets at least a 9.

Even Gamespot has given the game a full 10 out of 10!

I've been here on n4g for years. I've seen your comment hundreds of times, from both Sony and MS camps, from a bunch of different people.

"IGN has lost its credibility" --- for the 1,000th time it seems. And they'll probably lose their "last shred of credibility" next month... and the next... and so on.

I've seen people say IGN favors MS games, I've seen people say IGN favors Sony games.

I've seen people swear off IGN countless times, only to then be commenting in the same article about how they have "just" lost credibility.

I see people constantly claim IGN gets paid off by reviewers.

And this cycle will repeat, over and over again whenever a game they're excited for doesn't get the score they want. On a few occasions, I have chimed in to give the whole speech about "opinions", as have a few of the intelligent minority on this site.

I don't know why I read the comments section anymore, lol. Don't get wrong, I've made some of the exact same comments I'm currently complaining about when I was younger, not saying I'm better or smarter than it, but at a certain point, I realized it's silly to take any review so seriously that it upsets you in the slightest.

People have different opinions (here we go again, lol), not everyone has nor should have the same ones as you do. Plus, IGN is made up of many individuals who write reviews, one opinion/score doesn't reflect what the entirety of IGN think of the game.

Want to say "so and so has lost credibility" despite all that? Find out the name of the specific reviewer who gave the game a score you didn't like, say that about them.

I don't really like anyone at IGN either, nor do I care much for their opinions (which imo, are crap), but to say an OPINION doesn't have credibility is kind of pointless and silly, because the only CREDIBLE opinion is YOUR OWN. Not peoples opinions who happen to align with your own most of the time. Your own opinion is the ONLY ONE that is credible.

Sorry mate, but this is not about wanting my favorite game to be given a high score and then yelling "lack of credibility" when disappointed with the results but rather wanting a site that claims to aspire to high standards of gaming journalism to be fair and consistent when reviewing games. When a journalist reviews a game and then presents the review under the umbrella of a website like IGN then that site is should be held to account for the lack of fairness as one would expect IGN to ensure that games are reviewed for the benefit of their core audience, the consumer gamers, and that each game, regardless of whether it is a Playstation or Xbox exclusive, is judged fairly so the gamers can make informed purchasing decisions. What is obvious to many of us is that IGN does not ensure such fairness in my opinion and hence the "lack of credibility" statement. Your assertion that only a person's own opinion can be regarded as credible is ridiculous.

No, it's not, because guess what? Games can't be judged objectively. Opinions can certainly be more or less tailored to an individual, but they can never be "credible". What happens when a reviewer whom you agree with 99.9% of the time gives your absolute favorite game (that you couldn't possibly fathom anyone not liking, or at least not giving a decent score" a 1/10? Are they suddenly no longer credible, even if they agree with you 99.9% of the time on everything afterwards as well? You would be regurgitating the same comment for that reviewer who hates your favorite game, declaring their lost credibility.

As to the rest of your comment, the game isn't even freaking out yet, you don't KNOW sh** about it unless you've spoiled yourself with a leaked walkthrough, so you are not able to "credibly" say whether it's good or not. You don't know if they've reviewed with high standards or not, you CAN'T know.

A review can only tell someone what they think of the game, it can't "credibly" promise that you'll enjoy it.

And this is absolutely you being disappointed that your favorite game isn't being given a "high" score (8.8 is pretty damned high anyways, what are you? one of those new-to-gaming kids who think anything below a 9 is trash?), I guarantee you wouldn't be posting this same comment if this game were given a 10/10.

I really hope you wouldn't use an argument along these lines, because it's asinine. But I felt to include it, as well as a response to it, just in case, to save some time. Other reviewers do not need to look at other reviews and copy them or hold up to them. Aside from the fact that reviews are opinions and opinions are subjective, just because a bunch of sites have the same opinions about a game, doesn't mean it's a good game.

Look, I'm not saying IGN should be taken seriously, I'm just saying your logic for them "losing credibility" is absolutely stupid and immature.

When the game comes out and you've played it, by all means, let everyone know IGN (or rather Lucy O'Brien, because one reviewer does not represent the entirety of a website) has a sh*tty opinion, something I personally agree with too. But the idea of an opinion (aka review) being credible is ludicrous, because reviews for an entertainment medium such as video games, can not be objective, at least not in any aspect other than "does it work or not".

Who cares what you think without a multiplayer review yet. 8.8 should be bumped up by a few points if you are excluding replayability and fun elements of multiplayer then the the score has to be raised. Seeing as it has a significant multiplayer that game players look forward to playing it should add a whole point almost.

Without the multiplayer as part of the review. Which seems a odd way to try and say other games with a single player only campaign may be better in single player. That's not how reviews wrork. You review the whole thing at its entirety. If multiplayer adds anything? At all fun???? You know you are gonna have to raise this score. We all know Uncharted has one of the best multiplayer elements too. So there is no way a 8.8 will be the final score. You honestly can't just add a tiny .5 to such a big part of the game yet to be reviewed. So I view this review as another high scoring 9-10 score after the multiplayer review is added.

You can't go in another review lowering score of a game due to repetitiveness and come in this one and says well pass cause it's Uncharted.
