Hello Games says over 99 percent of planets in No Man's Sky won't be visited

It's very difficult to wrap your mind around the sort of scale this game will have, but nonetheless, developers have been trying to convey the level of massiveness No Man's Sky will have.

This is the start of something great for us gamers, the way this game is thought/set up opens a lot of doors for the next generation of games and developers in that genre.

Just imagine what a game could be made with AAA Budget and a bigger team. Get a license like Star Trek, Star Wars or even Mass Effect and Boom! Hopefully No mans sky is a success and kicks something off even bigger.

Yeah its just too many planets, I was just being silly of course, I actually plan to spend a ton of time on my first planet and fully explore it, only leaving once I feel I've seen everything. I think this will help give the universe (galaxy?) a much better feeling of vastness.

There's combat, and mining and trading and stuff. The game is built mostly for exploration.

Who do you trade with? From what I have seen they said it's rare that you would run into another person. It was basically "go here and name this planet". I haven't seen guns, dogfights or anything.

Going into orbit in real time looked pretty sick, I'll give them credit for that. That's pretty much the only thing that impressed me.

I think I read you can trade with alien races. If I meet someone in the universe at midnight, I'll chug an energy drink and me and that gamer, god willing, shall have a few hours of fun exploring as a team. Wonder what the trophies will be. Would be hilarious if there was only one. "Meet Someone"

As excited as I am for this game, it does look somewhat shallow compared to the overall scope of the game. Course, that's just from what we've seen or know so far. I have hope that hello games will continue to push out new things to download in the future to really flesh out their idea. .

After watching the newest video on IGN First, it shows a lot more you can do in the game, and makes me soo much more excited for this game. Take a look at the video and then tell me you still thinks it's too shallow for it's scope.

That's kinda what I was referring to actually. Don't get me wrong, that video alone sold me on the game. It just shows everything we kinda already knew I guess is what I mean. Nothing more. It looks fun. For a good long while but I just fear that novelty may wear thin without extra things being added, from what we know we can do so far. Game looks amazing. I'm a huge Sci Fi fan, so I have high hopes for this one. Definitely day one buy for me.

But yeah, space combat, exploration, mining, crafting, trading, pirating uprading your ship, guns, suit, all in an effort to get to the centre of the galaxy... or meet another player if you prefer that objective :)

I'm not a troll. 36 people disagreeing with me doesn't invalidate my opinion. I don't care if you respond or disagree with me. After watching the most recent IGN I can see I was mistaken somewhat. There was a gun and a space fight but they didn't seem all that interesting or useful. Maybe there's a ship that has the ability to have a proper dogfight but that demo didnt show it. Any planet you go to still has the same little robot policemen.

Someone giving me that link was an informative response, I learned a little. The people calling me a troll are fanboys who cry about criticism. I didn't call anyone stupid or a troll for liking the game. It just seems lackluster to me even with its outside the box design. I like the infinite world concept a lot. I like procedural generation, terraforming and permadeath characters. Those are just game mechanics though, not an interesting game. It's not trollish to think this game looks boring, it's a difference in opinion. Be more tolerant, you sound like a fascist.

For one person, this is highly plausible. Even if you only see a planet for 10 seconds, you wouldn't have enough fuel to go back and travel planet to planet seamlessly. A person would need to scavenge for fuel and other forms of resources to stay afloat.

And even if you have the best vehicle for exploring, excellent fuel consumption...the universe is massive.

There could be different dimensions in the form of DLC to create another universe. Adding more combinations for planets in this seperate dimension, like new rock types and mystical creatures or just expand on it's current universe. More sectors...

This game will be very successful and have interest on sites like Twitch since everyone will have different experiences. Might be the moment I start livestreaming.

He directly contradicts himself immediately with this idea. Either there is no multiplayer or there isn't. IF people are going to be getting to the center of the universe, that means they're going to be meeting up with each other there. He's clearly skirting around the issue by saying some shit about it being "too large and you won't see anyone because of this".

Exactly. I think Sean Murray just doesn't want to give too much of the game away. For example, he has been asked about what the player character looks like, and he answered that the only way to know what your player character looks like is to look at another player. Which to me implies that this is a real possibility.

Personally I think it will be the driving force to get to the centre of the galaxy, and it will be there that you really have to opportunity to meet up with other players in a cosmic hub (like Destiny's player hub).

The issue is, giving away too much of the game is his excuse for not showing off features. When you advertise "Hey, you can do this this and this" in your game, you show all three of this. Not say "oh, it's a mystery, I can't show you".

The jury is out for me. So you have basically unlimited planets. You land, walk around marvel at the new species and leave. What else is there?
Will this get old?
Is there any NPC to interact with?
Is there any story. I am excited but have to see some in depth reviews.

You do what you do in every other RPG.
You level up so you can take on the bigger bad.
How you do that is up to you, you can explore/mineif you want but it is not a requirement of the game as you never even have to land on a planet.

You can become a trader and only dock in space or simply be a space pirate and kill/steal to survive.

The story is about getting to the center of the galaxy, how you do it is up to you.

EDIT: Yes there are NPCs but they don't speak your language so you have to learn theirs if you want to properly interact with them.

NPCs were literally shown in latest IGN First preview, you can mine resources that you can use to upgrade your equipment or trade with NPCs, survival is also a mechanic in this game. It doesn't have a big story, if you want that then wait for Mass Effect. Will it get old? Obviously, every game gets old at some point.

Watch the new IGN First video, if that doesn't look fun to you then this game isn't for you.

How many of those "99 %," or the 100 % for that matter, are really so different that they are worth visiting anyway? Honestly, how many could really be a loss not to have visited?

That logic doesn't actually work in this comparison at all, no one is going to come along and say to you "due to the limitations inherent to the programming, only a handful of ACTUAL meaningful variations of planets, life and general celestial phenomena can exist in the universe." The real universe is obviously filled with much more possibility than what will be in this game.

This is a GAME and every single game that has come along, touting "randomly generated" or something close to that has never lived up to the promise in any meaningful way.

Really think about it for a second, I'm not trying to just debate you for nothing, it really doesn't make sense to compare the actual universe to one that we KNOW has an immense number of limitations by comparison.

What I am hinting at is the almost infinite unknowns in NMS. Even the devs don't really know exactly what you will find planet to planet because of the nature of their procedural generation algorithm. So, in that aspect, it really does relate to our own universe and the discoveries that are made. Sure, we can take highly educated guesses based on what we observe.
Sure, there are limitations to the universe of NMS. But, that is part of gaming. That being said, the wonder of exploring, discovering flora and fauna, unearthing cave systems, and traversing the uncharted stars is very much an extension of what many an astronomer dreams of. Thus, my comparison. I'm well aware that NO game can eclipse the wonder and awe of our actual universe. But, IMO, NMS is trying to capture that same feeling of wonder by creating such a vast, unknown expanse.

Well put, eloquent almost. I agree there just about 100 %. It is just my standing that, and i would LOVE to be wrong, we are going to see an enormous amount of repetition. Surface features may change, appearances, but you will see the same "herds" of creatures doing the same old stuff they all just look slightly different. That sort if thing is my fear which i am almost certain will be realized. Make a liar out of me devs, PLEASE!

I can fully understand that fear of seeing the same things. But, at least to me, it's not just how they look. It's also about how they react. According to the devs, the animals also have differing behaviors. Some planets have daytime predators and some have nighttime predators. Some animals herd, while others are more solitary. Sean Murray has even mentioned man-eating plants that were attacking other animals. That alone is enough to get me excited. I am also aware that I could be let down. But, IMO, this game seems worth the risk.

I only recently found out you can't explore planets with a couple of friends.

In that instant this game went from 'OMG I CANT WAIT' to 'why in the name of sweet Christ would I want to roam around planets doing nothing by myself'.

I wonder if the center of the universe will unlock a worm whole that will allow to fast travel to previously explored galaxies. And then perhaps a story can start to unfold as you talk to other Alien races and accomplish quests for them. Yes as it is reaching all those planets if you even want to can surpass you're lifetime but maybe that's why getting to the center is every Man's dream. Or woman's. And then one you can fast travel to galaxies on top of how well your warp core on your ship is upgrade allows you a more likely chance to reach more planets and meet other players than when you initially begin the game.

I'm an explorer so I will see more than that percentage but I question that statement. Why make an exploration game soo vast if you think most gamers will only see 1 percent of it?

They probably could have done some other stuff instead of wasting time and money creating planets that won't be visited by players...
