PlayStation VR Launch Bundle Pre-Orders Start Tuesday

Sony has just revealed a PlayStation VR launch bundle, available for pre-order beginning Tuesday.

Well this is what the haters were calling for, and Sony has listened and has now made the complete bundle available. What do you have to say now? The complete bundle is STILL cheaper than Occulus Rift or HTC Vive. Although I know that this bundle announcement is still going to ruffle some peoples feathers, as it seems that now the only bundle available for pre-order is the complete bundle at $499.99!? Don't get me wrong, if this bundle becomes available in the UK I'll swap my pre-order in a heart beat.

I Think is important to take into account when considering the difference between the prices of the PSVR and Occulus Rift that the Occulus comes WITHOUT the hand-tracking touch controllers, touch controllers we still don't know how much are going to cost or when are they going to come out.

This is a great price for the complete PSVR combo.

Yeah, the Vive DO come with touch controllers, but the Vive is $800, that's why I only mentioned the Occulus, because it was next in the price range after the PSVR and that's without taking into account that you need a moderately good PC, and those cost more than a PS4.

I was down on Sony's VR because I didnt know the final price of it, with everything you need for the optimum experience. But $499 for all of this is one hell of a deal.

I think the only issue I have is that the "core bundle" isn't going to be available for pre-order. Probably due to fear of supply constraints, but still sucks. I'll probably pre-order this bundle and sell off the extra camera and move controllers.

I would expect the core to return after the holidays. Now we have a better comparison to the Rift bundle. $499 vs $599. Eve: Valkyria and Lucky's Tale are included with the Rift and PSVR comes with Playstation Worlds. When the MSRP of these games is made available we can see how much they are adding to the cost. The camera and 2 move controllers alone are worth the extra $100 the bundle costs. The Move controllers retail for $40 each and the camera retails for $60, not the bs $25 and $40 prices fans have been throwing around the last couple of days.

Sony announced that the core will also be available in October 2016. So, all bases are covered. Total cost for a newcomer on PS4 is $850. Total cost for newcomer on PC is at least $1500. Thats a stark difference. Imagine all of the game you could get with the $650 difference.

The Rift and Vive in the beginning are being targeted at PC gamers. Needless to say, we already own gaming PCs.

I'm looking at $600 to get VR on my PC and about $450 to get VR on my PS4. That's not a massive difference in price, especially considering the Rift comes with two games and a controller, as well as better specs.

In any case, it's funny how so many of you are trying to downplay the Rift and Vive based on the difference in price. Yet the same thing is true of PC gaming in general. A decent gaming PC is more expensive than a PS4, but why aren't people trying to spin that into some kind of huge win for the PS4 and proclaiming doom for PC gaming? Because that would be stupid, PC gaming is thriving.

Likewise, the Rift and Vive can also be successful devices despite the somewhat higher price. After all, price isn't everything. People often pay more to get a higher quality experience.

As far as I heard, Oculus RRP + shipping in CAD is not $800, but $914, as reported here:

PlayStation's HMD is 550CAD, as you know, plus shipping. That's a pretty big difference, even without factoring in hardware. Of course, if you decide to go for a dearer PSVR bundle that packages controllers and whatnot, you will pay more.

You don't need Move controllers to use it; heck, you don't need the camera for some features to work, so it really boils down to how much you want to pay and what you want to use it for - consumer choice.

I agree you don't need the Move controllers for VR in general, since VR utilizing a standard gamepad works well. But there may be particular games that require them.

On the other hand, you absolutely do need the camera for VR. Given that the name of Sony's VR solution is PSVR the camera is an essential part of it. Without the camera it shouldn't even be called PSVR, since there wouldn't be any VR involved, just a plain head-mounted display.

The camera is 50$ and each controller is around 30$ plus the game which is around 40-50$ by itself. Doesn't seem like a bad bundle to me and its a great way to get people started.

Why didn't they announce a bundle that included the camera right off the bat? That would be a more realistic comparison to the Rift.

Instead they announce the $399 price tag that doesn't apply for most PS4 owners and people start comparing it to the Oculus Rift which does include the camera. Mission accomplished.

Even after this bundle is announced people will go on claiming PSVR only costs $399 and how it's "hundreds less" than the Oculus Rift.

This bundle is a great value, though. It represents solid savings. Nothing wrong with the bundle or its value, they just shouldn't have only announced the price of the headset without the camera. It was all about perception and it wasn't entirely honest.

I've literally spent hours inside VR playing Elite Dangerous, without any side effects. Those new to VR will probably get motion sickness but your body will adapt very quickly.

When i first got my DK2 over a year and a half ago, i would be green to the stomach after the coaster demos, but now i feel nothing.

and I never said it would cost that much, I always knew it would be cheaper than Oculus. But the PSVR bundle price is $100 cheaper than the Rift price. Not exactly a landslide of price difference. Granted you do get the move controllers which are a little better than an Xbox One controller.

Even if it doesn't come with a game there's going to be the update to The Playroom and I'm sure Sony will put out demos or small F2P games for download like they did when the Vita launched (cliff diving, fireworks, etc). Plus there's cinema mode for all current non-VR games.

No, you misunderstand. The different bundles are good. But they should have announced the price of a bundle with the camera and one without right off the bat.

They only talked about the price of the headset without the camera because they wanted the perception to be that PSVR is $399, even though it will cost most PS4 owners around $50 more than that to actually experience VR on our PS4s.

Just because I criticize the way they announced this and the inaccuracy of the reporting by many in the media doesn't mean that I don't like PSVR or that I think it won't do well. I think PSVR will be successful and will help to popularize VR. I simply don't think that PSVR's success somehow spells doom for the Rift and Vive. I think they can all be successful, similar to the way consoles and PC gaming themselves are successful.

Tbh I think most normal gamers hopes PSVR, Rift and Vive all do well. It would be bad for the new medium if they start failing commercially. Some folk just one one to do better than the others due to brand loyalty.

It was kind of shrewed of Sony to release the price of the headset alone. They should have released both bundles initially to be upfront about it but it puts the idea of it being better value into the minds of the public which is important, if a little shady. Sony has been playing the game long enough to know how it will look when marketing 'from $399'.

Either way, do you really think it would stop people on here arguing over entry cost and value? It will rage on regardless.

Bundles are usually something that they talk about after a hardware reveal. First, they talk about the core unit (price, specs, etc.). Then, they talk about games. Finally, they talk about bundles. People just need to be patient.

I wonder if all those people expecting it to be $199-299 are mad or spinning it. Seems to be a lot of backtracking on the price feelings. "This thing will never sell if it's $500". Well. It more or less is $500 if you want the same equivalent setup as the vive or or oculus. The one thing that irks me is that the announced $399 price is only fractionally true. And the ps camera didnt actually sell a ton so the majority of ps4 players (like myself) will have to end up ordering the bundle due to this fact (hence why only now have the cameras started flying off the shelves and not before). I was expecting to pay around $500 for it anyway so it's not a big deal to me. It just seemed misleading. Yes it's still cheaper than the competition, but let's remember too it's also spec'd lower.

I am more than excited for psvr and I think it will be the most successful. I also think it won't be as high end of an experience as a loaded up PC running a vive or oculus because of the lower spec and how powerful you can make a PC in comparison with more powerful hmd's to boot. What it has going for it is a huge existing install base and it is still the cheapest option. Then again - PC guys are used to spending more to get more. No. I'm not a PC gamer, just looking at things objectively.

$400/$500 is the reality of what we got. I honestly don't see it moving huge units beyond launch at that price. But then again I've never tried VR before so I don't know if the experience is truly worth that price.

I agree that it won't move huge units - even if it sells out, that doesn't really say much as the runs could be smaller than console runs. VR is a pricey affair, especially considering its completely untested. I think if the initial smaller push is successful it will lead to more devs supporting it, better practices and more importantly more competition which will naturally drive the price down, making it easier for the larger market to obtain - especially knowing that the tech being good is how they arrive at that potential situation (if that makes sense).

I honestly don't think that Sony expects PS4 type numbers with VR. They seem to be in it for the long haul. They are hoping that the early adopters will become evangelists about it and the mass market will be ready for it right around the time that PSVR is ready for a price drop. This is their idea of forward thinking technology and their way to get their foot in the door.

Well I have a camera and 2 moves already, so THIS blows. I was excited to pre-order, but now I'm kinda pissed. Why didn't they do it the other way around? With the bundle first, then the stand alone version? I bet they'll have a lot of canceled pre-orders of the base version now. Stupid.

Its a great bundle with alot of value in it.

For me though I would prefer just the headset and the camera. I don't really care about the bundled game and I already have a move controller.

That's the bundle I want, I just hope the UK price is equivalent or close to.

$499 dollars should be around £344, which is unlikely to be the UK RRP, if they do the whole bundle for £400 or under I'll be very happy.

I definitely want psvr, but not sure if i'll get it day one. I work in retail so i get a discount which will bring my price to $365 for the HMD alone. That makes me more tempted to jump in day one. I hope they have demo stations set up in stores soon, can't wait!

Noooo!!!!! I want just the PSVR!!! Oh well I guess I have no option just to pre order the bundle since they excluded the core bundle. I guess I can always sell my extra move controllers :)

Very reasonable price. Especially if you don't have any of these things already. No game to my knowledge requires to use the PS Move controller. They're optional. The only game that I played that used them was Job Simulator. Battlezone, and RIGs used the DS4.

Secondly the PS Move controllers are from last generation.

Still $399 for me and I'm just waiting for the headset itself pre-orders to become available.

It will have it day one. VR porn is basically a video file. As long as it has a setting to play 180 degree VR videos it will have porn.

Yes you can in fact just buy the headset and with a ps4 & game dual shock 4 play the regular ps4 games in large screen mode..some VR experience software can indeed be ran without the external camera or PlayStation move controllers.

no you cant camera is needed to track vr movement without it you just like watching gigantic tv in front of your eyes

Yeah, me too. Whosever bright idea it was to offer the stand alone version first and THEN the bundle should be fired. Wonder how many EU folks will cancel their Base Version pre-orders when they're able to snag the Bundled Version instead. Or maybe they won't even be able to order the bundled version now because they already ordered the base version one, (One order per household.) when they would really rather have the bundled. Just Plain Dumb.

-pre open March 22
-Bundle comes with all the necessity stuff
-They will have promotions where you can trade in stuff foe 20% towarda the purchase of rhe headset.Plus Pro members will get an extra 10% on top of the 20% towards the purchase.
