The Phantom Pain received a lot of positive gaming press in 2015. It received near perfect scores across the board, was credited with one of IGN’s infamous 10’s, and it of course won an award at the VGAs. Yet despite all this it received a mixed reception from the fans. Personally, I don’t believe that V deserves the praise it received, and in this article I will hopefully demonstrate why I believe this to be the case. I’m not going to talk about cut content, the fan service, make personal attacks against Kojima’s character, and I also have no intention of getting into what accrued at Konami. This is simply a critique of the Phantom Pain in the state it was released back in September of last year. There will be spoilers.
Whether it's showcasing damage realistically or simulating fractures and conditions, these games are worth checking out.
The Metal Gear series has sold 60.2 million copies, as of September 2023.
...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is another rollercoaster of a game in the Metal Gear Solid series. Here's what to expect and why you need to experience it.
Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.
The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.
My biggest critique is that we never got to see an elder Big Boss/Venom Snake. We saw a lot of Yoji Shinkawa art of Big Boss in his late age as he was depicted in MG1 and MG2, but it never appeared in-game.
Even the thumbnail of this article is mad. That should've been an old Venom Snake on the other side of the smashed mirror.
