Ars technica writes: "The Madden franchise has gained a bad reputation for having each new edition roll out little more than new roster updates and incremental graphical improvements. Enter Madden 2009, the twentieth-anniversary edition, and another yearly installment purported to be a "true evolution."
There are some nice things here; the graphics are slightly improved over last year and character models look a little bit better. The playing surfaces look much better, even though they lack gametime deterioration, and sidelined players slightly less terrible. There are also some new animations: receivers will bobble the ball, players celebrate touchdowns, and the camera angle automatically changes to chase a player on a breakaway run."
