Sega Saturn games in 4K resolution

Take a look how wonderful Sega Saturn is in 4K resolution.

Definitely cool. Probably not as cool as playing guardian heroes perfectly on my nexus 7 tablet with controller support.

But definitely cool. Actually make me want to pull the Saturn out of the closet just for kicks and reminisce.

Have you played other Saturn titles on it? I'd love to play Shining Force 3 on the go or even Shining the Holy Ark.

Are you playing that at home? Or do you carry that controller around with you too? Does it fit in your pocket? Or do you use a bag/backpack. If so, then you might as well bring a competent laptop.

I can play it anywhere.the controller is as big as a dualshock with Bluetooth support.lighter and packed in a small black bag.

Same as playing Mame, openbor,and every other emulator like Dreamcast on a tablet. When you see something like shenmue or powerstone working as if you're playing your Dreamcast,it blows your mind that it's even possible.

I don't have to bring out the hardware from the closet or lug around a computer.but what would you say is cooler?playing a game in 4k?or taking it on the go when it was thought to be impossible?

I still have that game! It is amazing, I re-play it every year and it never gets old. The ambience, the story, the RPG elements, it is a brilliant game.

I would prefer playing on an old TV because it'd hide the lack of polygons better, and that's the way they were meant to be played. Why make it 4k if there's an obvious threshold of improvement, there's nothing new hidden beyond the original resolution besides what clever mapping/render techniques emulation can come up with.

I agree. From Genesis to PS2 (Saturn included), these games were meant to be played on old school tube TVs. I gotta say, I still think the low poly, low res textures, and blocky graphics still look great to me.

The games were great as is, not forced beyond their time, 4K does not make them any better, it has it's limits.

People are thick. The resolution can be 500k but it doesn't change the fact the game looks like ass (these days).

Higher resolution is only good if the assets were made for it. Upscaling a bit will be fine but going from 480p to 4k will probably make it look worse

Upscaling the image does nothing, you have to replace the low-res textures with hd textures. The screenshots of the games I remember playing looks just like I remember them, no change.

I still have my old GameFan magazine showing off the screenshots of these Saturn games. I remember wanting to get my hands on Panzer Dargoon so bad.

I don't get it. Sure the res is high but what's the point when the models and texture are so dated?

Maybe I'm too young, as my first console was a PS1 so I'm not appreciating this for what it is.

I don't get it... I can go out and take a 4k video of a dog turd and the quality of the video will not make the experience better quite the opposite.

Because in the end it's still is a dog s**te.
