1)you totally underestimate the age group the ds is designed for.
2)you would likely have to work out a contract for every area of the world to sell the ds phone.
3)hitching your pony to a single service provider in a region will severely limit your potential sales.
4)cell providers in the US don't all use gsm, so an open device will still leave out potential customers.
5)what kind of person is into pokemon and has a need for gps.
6)nintendo is into keeping things simple. they still use gamer codes for the wii and their online service is an afterthought. why would they even consider cell phone service for a ds.
7)no one talks about a ds phone. you only ever hear about a psp phone. and it has the same problems as above except sony has a foot in the door with erickson, but it still will limit your sales.
As legendary as the iphone is to some people. cell phones don't post the same kind of long term sales that handhelds do.
And handhelds don't want to go to mobile competition. You don't want to invite apple, samsung,lg,motorola to compete with your handheld device. Thats just asking to lose money.
You can already see how popular this ds cell idea is considering i'm the only commenter.

That's either one tiny DS or one huge cell phone
