Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is not only a brilliant game in its own right - it's a history lesson in how the Mario role-playing series began. Anyone who has played the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series should play Square's original title that started it all, if they haven't already. Super Mario RPG paved the way and inspired both of these series, and for that reason we should be eternally thankful to Squaresoft.
In the 16-bit era, game devs and composers could finally change the type of tones used in the music, simulating a wider array of instruments and creating a whole lot of great soundtracks in the process.
It wasn’t easy picking out the best of the best because there were so many great ones. Even middle-of-the-road soundtracks seemed to deserve a bump if the game was just that damn good, and so many from that era are that damn good!
Here's the Ghetto Gamer list of top 20 soundtracks from the 16-bit era.
The director of Super Mario RPG wants to make a sequel of the game to close out his career
Super Mario rpg was my first introduction to jrpgs on the SNES. I adored it so much I was hooked & bought most jrpgs made by Squaresoft including others like Breath Of Fire 1& 2 on the SNES.
That would be great, but please make it in the same vein as the original. Just super updated graphics and visual effects.
The original was my gateway into JRPGs and still holds a place in my heart as one of my favorite games of all time.
These JRPGs stand up on their own.
Super Mario RPG is a gosh darn treasure. I've had the boss battle music stuck in my head for most of the week, which typically translates to "I need to play through that game again".
Happens all the time to me with Yoshis' Island as well.
Never played this game, but now I really want to.
One of my favorite SNES games & my very first time ever playing a rpg.Once I completed the game I was addicted to rpgs & bought almost every rpg on that system especially the ones developed by Square.
