Square confirms Final Fantasy VII Remake will be bigger than the original game

If you’re worried that Square Enix’s multi-part release plan for the Final Fantasy VII Remake will result in a smaller experience, Square Enix says the opposite will be true.

Just been watching everyone jump to the worst possible conclusions, ever since this news about it being multi-part was announced.

I'm not worried, I can tell by the trailer that they know what they're doing with this, the settings, characters, voices, all seem spot on. They're putting everything they have into this game. They have as much respect for this masterpiece as the fans do, and I'm confident that they're going to do it justice.

The quality of the work is not what people are worried about, people are just worried about how much they'll have to pay for the full adventure. If its split into 3 or more parts there is little chance the total cost will be 60 dollars for all parts.

bigger doesnt mean better...i hope they keep the solid RPG element, ambiance ,the colors and the atmosphere of the original ..IMO dont include anything from Advent Children(good anime but the plot was underwhelming)and Crisis Core (again very good game but in some way you loose liking its new characters and atmosphere)

Well put. I see no reason why we cannot accept them at their word. They have an opportunity to create something really majestic and fun as well as add content that was probably left out of the original due to the limitations of the time.

The gameplay shown on Saturday, the little there was, looked good and certainly the way the game looks even at this early stage clearly indicates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being done in the best way possible.

There was some outcry at the notion that SE will release the game in parts, but that may not be a bad thing as otherwise it may well be 4 to 5 years before the game is completed, or even longer. With the additional content, a game that was already quite huge by present standards will be even bigger, and if it means we can play some of it earlier, like either next holiday or more likely Xmas 2017, I am all for releasing FF 7 Remake in two or three or even four parts.

All people are doing are finding reasons to complain. They haven't talked about costs at all and people are already angry that it could cost $60 an episode with no idea how long each episode will be and how much content each episode will contain. Square Enix put my worries to rest with the latest trailer. I'm going to trust their business model as Life is Strange was amazing and I didn't mind paying for each one of those episodes. Let the little kids complain about costs while the real supporters sit back and wait for some pricing and more details.

As sad as it was at the time, any scenario that would allow Aerith to be saved would undermine one of the most memorable and powerful scenes in gaming history. It would be a substantial mistake, and would dramatically alter the plot.

I would imagine so. The scope of the original game was massive with it's world map and the many hidden secrets. Noruma is also promising to include new areas to explore such as sections/other platforms for Midgar that we never got the chance to see in the original. To already recreate every asset in the game for HD and add new content on top of that the scope for the remake is going to be massive.

Probably not multiple Blu-rays. The BDXL format supports additional layers up to 128GB.

That format was defined in 2010 so if I were a betting man the PS4 probably supports reading the disc format.

OMG i really want FF8 to get the remake treatment as well. Just imagining the seed exam beachhead assault, the graduation dance, and rinoa's monologue (T^T) in realtime would be amazing.

It would be interesting if they alternate between the ps one remakes seeing as how they are releasing them in segments. Have team dedicated to each ff7, ff8, and ff9. Release a segment every other year. Talk about milking but it could work xD. Not ideal at all but it'll mean we can get our remakes THIS life time

If they want to do new content then do a sequel set after the main game or a spin off of something within the main game. For example FF8-2 could have been about the Rinoa-Ultimecia theory and the gang trying to stop that future from happening while Esther goes to war again and all magic users like Rinoa are hunted down in a Salem Witch trails way because people like Adel, Edea and Ultimecia threatened the world or you could do FF8-0 which shows us Laguna, Kiros and Ward which expands on their flashbacks to the point where Laguna becomes president of Esther.

With the way they are taking FF7, I would be really worried to what they would do with a FF8 remake.

I just want to see the Garden Battle in full HD, the cutscenes in the game are amazing still today

They've already stated its not possible with the technology available and they'd like to do it before retirement. so the only way that would happen is if we waited an extra generation or two and lose members of the original team and compromise how faithful the game would be to the original.

That's naive to think all that's being added is better graphics.they have to rewrite the story for it to make sense for how it will play out in a modern game like this, transitioning the game from low quality models and prerended backgrounds to something like this is not only difficult but its too big. They need to split it into several games so that they can get a nice big budget for each entry instead of one single budget for a game they don't know how large it will be.

Remaking a game isn't just taking what was already there and making it look better and its obvious that's not what they are doing, they are going to take it further.

Because it would be stupid not to. FF Crisis Core had explorable Midgar parts, it wouldn't make sense to make a FFVII remake with just a few areas of Midgar that you can walk around in. They could stick to the original and do that but then the game would have linear maps, like FFXIII did and we all know how loved that was.

New content doesn't necessarily mean something that hasn't been in the original in some form. If they make the whole city of Midgar explorable that's already a ton of new content in form of locations and possibly quests.

Edit: Final Fantasy XIII was 50 something GB in size and it was significantly smaller than VII in terms of world size and story length.

I still hate the idea of episodic of FF7. Like come on I just want the full game on one disc not into episodic BS. Stuff like this really annoys me to no end. Actually it's a very good reason if the final product would be considerably more than a single BluRay could handle (even with the best compression available). But yeah, digital would definitely be the route to go but then you'd piss off the people who have crappy internet (or none at all).

It seems to me that square is milking this for all they can. Why do we need multi part releases to an epic game with an epic story that was originally released as a complete tale. It's my favorite game ever, and a lot of other people's too. I don't know if it has aged too well. Gameplay is good, so is the atmosphere, music, and characters. The pacing and blocky graphics might turn off modern players. But if you are willing to get past that and in the mood for a good RPG from 20 years ago-you will really enjoy it!

The aesthetic looks really amazing. These guys already seem to be showing their passion for this series. Hopefully the tactical depth is maintained. The combat is varied & versatile. It doesn't need to be bigger for the same reason that it doesn't need to be episodic. Frankly, I'd be concerned of bloat with this news, as I doubt that they'll risk expanding the original story in any way. This likely means pointless side quests like we had in Lightning Returns.

See, there is an assumption we are all making that "bigger than the original game" means that no part will be smaller. I'm not sure that's an air tight bet. Further, this is what really worries me. I don't care if it's in pieces, and I'd love expanded areas, but I am really worried that a, for example, bigger Midgar is the bone we're tossed in the hopes we just don't realize the world map is gone.
