Square confirms Final Fantasy VII Remake will be bigger than the original game

If you’re worried that Square Enix’s multi-part release plan for the Final Fantasy VII Remake will result in a smaller experience, Square Enix says the opposite will be true.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3060d ago

Just been watching everyone jump to the worst possible conclusions, ever since this news about it being multi-part was announced.

I'm not worried, I can tell by the trailer that they know what they're doing with this, the settings, characters, voices, all seem spot on. They're putting everything they have into this game. They have as much respect for this masterpiece as the fans do, and I'm confident that they're going to do it justice.

Perjoss3060d ago

The quality of the work is not what people are worried about, people are just worried about how much they'll have to pay for the full adventure. If its split into 3 or more parts there is little chance the total cost will be 60 dollars for all parts.

breakpad3060d ago

bigger doesnt mean better...i hope they keep the solid RPG element, ambiance ,the colors and the atmosphere of the original ..IMO dont include anything from Advent Children(good anime but the plot was underwhelming)and Crisis Core (again very good game but in some way you loose liking its new characters and atmosphere)

Jayszen3060d ago (Edited 3060d ago )

@Lightening Mr Bubbles

Well put. I see no reason why we cannot accept them at their word. They have an opportunity to create something really majestic and fun as well as add content that was probably left out of the original due to the limitations of the time.

The gameplay shown on Saturday, the little there was, looked good and certainly the way the game looks even at this early stage clearly indicates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being done in the best way possible.

There was some outcry at the notion that SE will release the game in parts, but that may not be a bad thing as otherwise it may well be 4 to 5 years before the game is completed, or even longer. With the additional content, a game that was already quite huge by present standards will be even bigger, and if it means we can play some of it earlier, like either next holiday or more likely Xmas 2017, I am all for releasing FF 7 Remake in two or three or even four parts.

DragonKnight3060d ago

The voices suck. They sound incredibly generic.

ShinMaster3060d ago

I'm fine with the voices.
Cloud has the same voice actor since Advent Children.
And Barret is voiced by the dude who voiced Jet in Cowboy Bebop.

Cha0tik3060d ago

All people are doing are finding reasons to complain. They haven't talked about costs at all and people are already angry that it could cost $60 an episode with no idea how long each episode will be and how much content each episode will contain. Square Enix put my worries to rest with the latest trailer. I'm going to trust their business model as Life is Strange was amazing and I didn't mind paying for each one of those episodes. Let the little kids complain about costs while the real supporters sit back and wait for some pricing and more details.

I don't care how they remake it. Just keep the materia aspect of the combat and character progress

kmeck5183060d ago

with the gameplay from the trailer this weekend, i don't see why they would need to change anything with the materia. So lets hope they don't!

shauzy3059d ago

we've always been shocked by square nowadays, they feed on it

Vhampir3060d ago

Aeris can also be saved.

:)

Asuka3060d ago

now that would be a huge plot twist from the original. Though i doubt that one of the most memorable events in video game history will change as the current story is literally centered around her death, or at least one of the many over-arcing story plots =p

TwoForce3060d ago

That would be weird to do that.

equal_youth3060d ago

If they really would do something like this i hope they do it like the hidden ending in Bloodborne. It has to be easily missable and you can only get it by being at the right time at the right spot. Now i could live with that. Hide it away for people to discover and not shove a simple choose a or b scenario in our face.

MeteorPanda3060d ago

Aeris is saved = meteor hits/bad ending

Aeris dies = good ending/no Aeris

I demand they do this haha, we'd all get the bad ending, fuck the planet

Vhampir3060d ago (Edited 3060d ago )

Aeris would cast Holy regardless, but yeah a lot of people would go "fuck the planet, save the girl". Sounds like TLoU.

DragonKnight3060d ago

Could be that she can only cast Holy by sacrificing herself. That would make it really bitter sweet.

MeteorPanda3060d ago

did you know snape kills dumbledore?

deafdani3059d ago

Did you know Vader is Luke's father?

LordMaim3059d ago

Forgot to mention:
- Jesus comes back from the dead.
- Your princess is in another castle.
- Carl is never in the goddamn house.

LordMaim3059d ago

As sad as it was at the time, any scenario that would allow Aerith to be saved would undermine one of the most memorable and powerful scenes in gaming history. It would be a substantial mistake, and would dramatically alter the plot.

PS4XBOXONEPC3060d ago

this is great news! like that:)

Asuka3060d ago

I would imagine so. The scope of the original game was massive with it's world map and the many hidden secrets. Noruma is also promising to include new areas to explore such as sections/other platforms for Midgar that we never got the chance to see in the original. To already recreate every asset in the game for HD and add new content on top of that the scope for the remake is going to be massive.

DivineAssault 3060d ago

A game of this scale will need 5+yrs of development time on multiple blu rays.. Not sure if i'd rather wait that long or get segments broken up.. I know im going to hate the waiting period before the next installment releases

ColManischewitz3060d ago

Multiple Blu-rays? Or downloads?

no_more_heroes3060d ago

Which is probably why they're making it a "multiple-part series".

Hold_It3060d ago

@Bahamut

I highly doubt they will do that, this is Square Enix and FF7. This is not Bungie and Activision with Destiny.

medman3060d ago

Bubble up for the funny man...sorry you're getting the disagrees.

Bahamut3060d ago

@medman

Thanks. I don't care though, I'm used to the disagrees.

indysurfn3060d ago

@bahumut LOL! I have to admit it that was funny! I hope it does not happen like this. But that was funny, thanks for the laugh.

KainYago3060d ago

Activision made the most expensive game ever and they sell it for 60 dollar in 1 piece. ff7 will be in parts and that will cost much much much more than 60

Raziel8933060d ago

used to the disagrees? your accounts 72 days old oh I forgot your another one of those duplicate troll accounts, carry on.

Bahamut3060d ago

@Raziel893

The hell you talkin about? And what makes you think I'm a troll? My post was a joke, obviously. Usually people agree with me with most topics, but this whole FF7 thing they've been pretty lame. You're all in denial, it's not my fault Square is screwing this up already.

Vhampir3059d ago

stop giving them ideas!

If the witcher 3 fitted in one disc, so can this remake. Not to mention there are double layer blurays too

averagejoe263060d ago

The witcher doesn't even come close to the assets needed to fully remake FF7.

Not even close.

indysurfn3060d ago (Edited 3060d ago )

@averagejoe26 the witcher is a very long and very good game. And may sweep game of the year this year. But....your right, dangit! Your right.

I think it will be a 20+ to one ratio. Minimum.

KainYago3060d ago

FFXV s world is 15 times bigger than witchers world and it will fit on 1 disc. this is all about money because they want to make it in a very expensive way to achieve the old games lvl the only problem if th game really expensive 1 game without dlcs will not get your money back so square cut it to pieces and they will earn more more more money. damn FFXV already have 2 dlc and they will be free.

DivineAssault 3060d ago

FF7 was 3 CDs long in the 90s homie.. That game was HUGE! If this is a longer game than that, its going to be gargantuan.. 70hrs originally not including maxing out and collecting all the items..

_-EDMIX-_3060d ago

? One is a mountains and castle and land, one is cities along with mountains and land.

Its not the same thing, FFVII easily will take up more space, space isn't just physical size you know.....

miyamoto3060d ago

Well that feels nostalgic....

deathtok3060d ago

Probably not multiple Blu-rays. The BDXL format supports additional layers up to 128GB.

That format was defined in 2010 so if I were a betting man the PS4 probably supports reading the disc format.

DivineAssault 3060d ago

No game does that though.. Idk how this is going to play out but as long as its fun, im getting it..

Ashmedae3060d ago

We've waited 10+ years for a remake. You're telling me you can't wait another 5...10 years for the game to be done right? I would gladly wait, till the very end of this console generation's life cycle, for this game if it is done right. I don't see Squre Enix remaking this game again. This IS it. So why not wait for it to be done right? What's the rush?

I seriously hope they do the game justice. I am hoping for an ATB system (enhanced at most if they feel the need to update it), the same story, with updated graphics. That's all I've wanted ever since I saw the tech demo on the PS3.

DivineAssault 3060d ago

They said its closer to atb than kingdom hearts but its its own thing..

maniacmayhem3060d ago

"A game of this scale will need 5+yrs of development time on multiple blu rays.."

Where exactly are you getting this info from?

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

Profchaos14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag13d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5215d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5214d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212114d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

MrNinosan14d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5214d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5214d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos15d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani14d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum15d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman15d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim15d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I disagree Batman
