What drove Robert Pelloni to spend over five years creating a Nintendo DS game by himself? The same thing that motivates most homebrew programmers: "It's the game I wanted to play when I was younger, a vision I've been following since then."
Is there an aim to the game?
wow the kid runs faster then the cars drive.
wtf is the point?

Feel kind of sorry for the guy. 5 years to do this on the DS? A single person could have done this on a PC in <5 months.
Erm, right fine of thats how some one really wants to waist there life., Dude, get one of the graphics engines you can buy and make a 3D game, but by the time you've done that we'll be on 4D.
"the finished product will be like an RPG, except focusing on "story, puzzles, items, and communication instead of repetitive battles with palette-swapped enemies." Sounds good. The vid is more of a tech demo which is why it's so boring but I'd like to hear some more about the game and hopefully he gets a publisher for it looks pretty good and a decent sized city.
...show me the money. Realistically, no publisher is going to commit to this game solely on what that tech demo is showing.
Why not the city looked big enough and people moving about and cars stopping for you on crosswalks. A living breathing city is always a first thing to get down on the game. Then you work into the gameplay and quests for it. Looks like he has the hard part down of getting the lay of the land down. One could get a publisher with the tech demo as long as he has an idea of a story
...but with the quality, variety, and quantity of games that the DS spits out, you need to have a hell of a pitch to sell that game. I'm not rooting against the guy, I commend his effort and dedication. But, realistically, he's better off making a downloadable version of his game for Live or the PSN, like Braid or Everyday Shooter. And why should you care so much if I think his game is boring, I have the right to my opinion. Besides I hope he's reading this, cause I'M THE POTENTIAL CONSUMER and if I'm not interested, no publisher will be either. I suggest he include all the stuff he says the game will do before going public with it. Hence, why I stated "show me the money."
Woah now. I never said you were wrong about the boring video. I was saying the man can make a pitch with that tech demo to a pubisher and it could get picked up. Yes the DS has a massive amount of games out now and in production but that doesn't stop someone from making another one. I too am a potential customer of this product and I am interested in it. So while you didn't buy it I did so a 50/50 take on the market is decent ;) Downloadable games are one thing but sometimes it's good to go a little further down and bunny hole and get into physical media oh plus one can't forget Wii Ware along with PSN and XBLA. There are plenty of publishers out there that see potential in little things. Much like a music publisher only needs to hear the first 10 secs of a song to buy it or not.
...I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Uh... why couldn't he just make this game with RPG Maker? The demo looks kind of crappy and ugly. Oh, it's cause he wants to get it published and make money.
