VGChartz writes: "Hardware sales are down overall from last week on a big Wii drop and a small PSP drop. Soul Calibur 4 did very well, through judging by retailer inventory maybe not as well as Namco had hoped.
August is looking like a good month for Namco. Tales of Vesperia debuted as the second best selling Xbox 360 game in Japan this week, while Soul Calibur 4 sold roughly 465,000 units during the week ending August 2 here in the Americas. With the former an Xbox 360 exclusive, and the latter coming in the wake of a clearance sales/temporary price drop, Microsoft's late summer momentum has a lot riding on how well Namco's games perform. Looking at hardware sales in the Americas this week, the bet may have paid off, as Microsoft sold nearly 90,000 Xbox 360s. Without Soul Calibur 4, Xbox 360 sales likely would have dropped this week. PS3 sales are up as well, although that is most likely because the shortages from last week have eased a bit in the Americas now that more of the new PS3 models are arriving."
