While Fallout 4's not a visual beast, its gameplay is an ever-rewarding feast
No it's not, story wise it sucks not to mention the graphics, i like the combat mechanic but soon you will find yourself running in the same circle over and over, for me GOTY will be Metal Gear Phantom Pain.
Either Witcher 3 or MGS for Goty. They both pushed the limit for what we can expect in games. Gameplay wise from MGS and scale and content with quality with Witcher 3. My Goty would go to Witcher 3 by a margin, as MGS's ending disappointed me heavily.
The Witcher 3 is my GOTY as well. Followed by Ori and the Blind Forest, Bloodborne, ROTTR, and Arkham Knight in no particular order. I'm still playing through Fallout.
I would never put Witcher 3 anywhere even close to a conversation about game of the year. I wouldn't even call it game of the week. It's the weakest RPG I've played in many years. Terribly boring. But hey, that's just one man's opinion. I know a lot of people loved it, I just can't for the life of me figure out why.
"Gameplay wise from MGS and scale and content" Lol what? I enjoyed MGS, but it lacked content and the "scale" was mostly empty space. MGS side missions were a joke and EXTREMELY repetitive. It was; Extract X Solider, Kill X Vehicle, Disarm Mines 100 times over. There was no depth, no story, nothing. The missions themselves were great, but we all know the game wasn't finished due to Konami. The open world was a nice touch, but lacked everything an open world should have. It was tons of empty space where you would just run and run with nothing happening. Witcher 3 is the only game this year that has a shot over Fallout 4 for GOTY. Many on N4G will say Bloodborne, but while it was a fantastic game, it's essentially a face paced Dark Souls. Not much more, not much less. Which is great for fans of the Souls series because you knew you would enjoy it. But Witcher 3 took the franchise in a whole new direction, and Fallout 4 expanded on the original formula and made is better in nearly every aspect along with new things like settlements.
@xPhearR3dx You mistunderstood my comment, but I agree with what you said. To make it clear: MGS pushed gameplay and Witcher 3 pushed scale and quality content. (ofc, this is my opinion.)
Uh hate to break it to you but "the story sucks" is a complete opinion. And since when did fallout ever care about graphics? JC
The reason why it's not the game of the year is because of there's three other titles more deserving of it. Witcher 3, Bloodborne and MGSV.
I don't think it will be GOTY for many critics since they go by score and it isn't the highest scoring game this year.
I agree. Though I got the game day 1 and its one of my favorite games this year, I don't see this game topping the charts of many GOTY awards. Its a great game, but I don't see it getting GOTY by most publications. I feel likely titles like Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V, or even Witcher 3 might get it by a lot of publications. Witcher 3 slightly as though the setting of the game has been more prone to getting such high awards, Witcher 3 like Fallout 4 is filled with bugs and I think not many will go out on the limb and give it a GOTY if they feel the backlash of it having bugs ,issues etc might harm them. Both good games, but I can see why some publications might not give Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 GOTY due to their performance issues or just bugs in general, I do see Witcher 3 as maybe landing GOTY by a major publication, but I think the majority won't pick it.
Fallout 4 is amazing but not Game Of the Year....Witcher 3 is far better in every aspect....
I agree with you, Witcher 3 just deserves to take this year, CDPR has done everything right, from delivering a masterpiece to giving a great example on how this industry should work!
It's my GOTY easily. The Witcher is a close second but I didn't care for the story and I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi.
Yeah my thoughts pretty much echo everyone else's i.e the witcher / bloodborne / mgsv The only two I want to add to that list are not aaa titles so I doubt they would be considered but rocket league and life is strange are up there with the best of 2015 imo
Maybe for some people. For me Witcher 3 is GOTY hands down
I believe Just Cause 3 will be my game of the year even though its not out yet. MGSV comes in 2nd place for me. Fallout 4 is garbage - traded it in after 3 days. If I wanted more Fallout 3, I would have bought the expansions for it 7 years ago. Come on Bethesda, you could do better than that.
If I take a step back from my current enjoyment of Fallout 4 (which is high), I think The Witcher 3 is a better game. More nuanced in many areas than Fallout. I'd probably go TW3, Rocket League, Fallout 4. Honorable mentions to Undertale, MGS, Bloodborne, and Dying Light. And Just Cause 3 will likely be there or thereabouts as well.
This or witcher 3
Mentioning Fallout 4 as GOTY is insulting and disrespectful to Witcher 3 and CD Project Red. Which is a much better game in pretty much every way. Fallout 4 is basically Fallout 3, with better gunplay and downgraded RPG elements. It's a dissapointment considering the huge hype. Still a decent game though all things considered.
Seems someone forgot to put points in intelligence. Oops!
I actually agree. I greatly enjoy Fallout 4 but I find it very lacking. Gameplay, animations, NPCs and graphics feels all outdated. Also there is way to many loading screens that breaks the immersion. You can see that a lot more work has been done by the developers in Witcher 3 than in Fallout 4. It is way more polished and ambitious.
I've played em all and Fallout 4 is definitely my game of the year
I loved Witcher 3, Bloodborne and Metal Gear Solid 5. Loved them. I'm not at all upset if Witcher 3 is declared GOTY, because CD Project Red is setting a great example that deserves to be praised, rewarded, and reflected upon (especially by EA and Ubisoft). That said Fallout 4 is the most fun I've had with a video game this console generation (second being Dark Souls 2:Sotfs). While it's shortcomings should not be ignored, and the game is not perfect, it is very very enjoyable, immersive, and addictive. Side note...this was a great year for gaming. The six best games I've played this year were perfectly spread out to where I could fully enjoy each one. Dying Light, Bloodborne, Witcher, Rocket League, Metal Gear Solid and Fallout.
The Witcher 3 beats Fallout4 in every aspect. Fallout4 is such a massive letdown compared to TW3. It's my GOTY.
Did you even play it lol. I've been playing every free moment since it came out. And I'm sure I'm not even half way done. If you already think it's a let down you must have not actually put time in it. And was biased from the get go.
Fallout 4 is definitely GOTY. Life is Strange, The Order: 1886, Dying Light and Until Dawn are the only other releases worthy of GOTY but let's face it, Fallout 4 got this.
