Blockbuster Seeing Increased Blu-ray Sales

Jim Keyes, CEO of Blockbuster, stated during a conference call with investors that the movie rental giant is now selling 2,000 to 3,000 Blu-ray Disc players a week since erecting Blu-ray themed kiosks at their retail the locations. Because of this success, he feels that Blockbuster will soon become an ideal location for the rental and purchase of Blu-ray products.

Keyes commented, "We think we are seeding the Blu-ray population. We are seeing consistent growth, new customer growth, which is probably contributing to our increased [in-store] foot traffic."

i cant wait till i get my HDTV : D look at 1:36 <------lmfao! lol lol XD XD PRICELESS!

ah... sweet victory....

Genesis53780d ago

I think it might be because more people are buying HD TV's. This is the way these things work.

But I believe Blockbuster will be the driving force that pushes Ps3 to successfully high numbers! Not Best buy, not Circuit city and not Wal-mart!

Guwapo773780d ago

...sorry but how do you know Blu-ray is so cool without a HDTV? If your watching it at 480i, your getting next to zero of the Blu-ray performance and might as well be watching DVDs.

MikeGdaGod3780d ago

i've been renting alot of bluray disks from blockbuster.

my gf is now a firm believer

PoSTedUP3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

squallheart3780d ago

PoSTedUP3780d ago

yea that junk was madd funny lol. but its true ya know.

Sitdown3780d ago

Feel free to explain your sources say blockbuster continues to be on a decline, and many analyst are confused by their attempt to buy Circuit City. In my experiences with Blockbuster, they do not necessarily give the most support to gamers..........especially since their Game Rush division begin to phase out in early 07.

i hope Amazon has more of those BOGOF deals.
blu-rays are great but they're still a bit pricey. but i've noticed the prices have gone down since last year.

theKiller3781d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

in this holiday season!

think about it everyone if the blue ray becomes like the DVD in the near future what will most people who has kids or even dont have kids will buy? will they fork out 400$ for BD player or a ps3 that have a harddrive and play games and movies internet browsing etc??

i see that ps3 did the best move to include BD player in every ps3!!

i expect sales of the ps3 to increase by 100/200% this holiday season compared to last year especially if they made a price cut!

meepmoopmeep3780d ago

for sure.

anyone looking to go HD will obviously pick a PS3 over a standalone.
more bang for your buck and it's still the best player out there.

1: xbox live
2: DD
3: HDD
4: wireless controllers with batteries
5: a lot of other upgrades including HD DVD 360 is all about upgrades and constant wallets draining

u see everything about MS is paying constantly for things that sony offers for free day one!! thats MS strategy with console war

Funky Town_TX3780d ago

now lower the price of the movies. $30 for a movie at most retail outlets is insane.

nice_cuppa3780d ago

i thought this was it but it seems to be about movies, phones and blog posts !
You see i was looking for some game news !!!

Lumbo3780d ago

Why click on an obvious BluRay news if you where looking for game news?

Lew_Ijgee3780d ago

Is about news that gamers find interesting.

Its called News for Gamers and not News About Games. There is room for various types of news here.

crck3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )
