This just in from our Tokyo bureau: according to an interview conducted by Japan's Impress, Sony's Ken Kutaragi has gone on record with a "promise" for what he's calling an AV-centric PS3. In other words, audio and video capabilities first, gaming second (if at all), in a device built around the Cell-processor platform. Ken says that the device would certainly be more expensive, reflecting the prices and margins expected on high-end consumer electronic devices such as TVs, Blu-ray personal video recorders, etc. -- not the relatively cheap, but powerful gaming rigs sold at a loss under Sony's Computer Entertainment division. Impress speculates that the device could cost as much as ¥300,000 or about $2,500.
you wiley devil you. Even in your diluted position the love for your "baby" still shines through. Edison had the lightbulb, Graham Bell had the telephone, and you've got your PS3. It's hard to deny a man and his passion for a life's work. I once saw a movie called Full Metal Jacket where the drill sergeant said, "guts is enough." Move this man back to the front office.lol
i know that after i make my outstanding peanut butter and jelly sandwich, i can't wait to eat it. it's spectacular. =]
it is drill instructor, not drill sergeant.
drill sergeant is army...the army love the sergeant rank...they call every NCO Sarg.
Marines however call their "makers of Marines" drill instructor, like in full metal jacket you mentioned. (btw, he was a real drill instructor for the Marines)
you will never catch a Marine disgracing another Marine by shorting his name to Sarg.
it would be like going up to an older gentelman and saying what is up man...instead of how are you doing sir. (of course some of you are scratching your head saying what is wronge with calling him man, lol)
another variant of the PS3, they need to get shipping more of the two variants they already have. Tying up needed components for this $2500 monstrosity they are cooking up is going to be a huge mistake.
Can they concentrate on the gaming part first!
Ooops.. double post.. sorry
I suppose Sony didn't learn it's lesson, when the PSX flopped like a fat man in a kiddie pool. :o
The PSX was a flop, but the key idea here is this AV-PS3 will be directed for video junkies. This will be for the people who are soley hung up on the picture and not the games. I don't think there is that many people out there willing to pay 2500, but for those who will, nice stuff.
They need to stop trying to fit every shread Technology in that beast and focas on makeing it a game machine. Whats next a fax/printer inside lol
Isn't the 360 already an Audio Video Center? I can store and stream my dvd collection stored on my PC thru my 360 in perfect quality. I can also download movies to rent if I wanted to. Pictures and Music streaming also. Seems that Sony is a little to late.
-Original Xbox was supposed to be a media center like this. Microsoft made many public statements on proposed functionality, until they did a feasability check, and saw it would be WAY too expensive.
-Not long after, Sony announces the PSX, which is everything Microsoft didn't put into Xbox, and fails miserably for the exact reasons Microsoft said such a system would.
On to now:
-Microsoft delivers on a media-rich console that can stream media, and meets in the middle on the A/V delivery, without cramming overly expensive bits down consumers throats.
-Sony decides to release ANOTHER terribly over-expensive console loaded with media features, then comes up with an EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS ALTERNATIVE!
Somebody needs a head check.
Which LG makes minus the PS3. Sony is slooooowwwwwww.
I always wished for this and as much as I hate the tacticts by sony and all the lies I do like this idea of a super console.
This sony idea is more of a entertainment hub but I would like to see a super concole thats a puter, with audio video capabilties with a monster graphics card that blows anything available away. But the support would be horrible.
