The Glorious PlayStation 2 Is 15 Years Old in North America Today

Tomorrow is going to be a very important day for PlayStation, but today isn’t irrelevant either, as the PlayStation 2 turned fifteen in North America. Launched at the turn of the millennium, the North American release came on October 26th, 2000, following the Japanese launch on March 4th and preceeding the European debut by about a month.

Great memories with PS2, games like Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Ratchet & Clank, Okami, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, God of War 1 and 2, RE 4, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, the list goes on.

So many games were released for the console, one of the best libraries for any game device, without a doubt.

I had like 60+ titles for PS2. PS2 literally converted me into a console gamer. I used to game on PC otherwise. Apart from regular games like Prince of Persia, Need for Speed and Pro Evolution i also picked up God of War along with PS2. I really started late into the generation. Some kid standing by the store told me to pick GOW up.

When i played GOW first time i was quite disappointed because of the locked camera and it wasn't as "fluid" as PoP. 30 mins in.. I got hooked by the story and the magnitude. That game literally converted me. Right there.

Okami will always be one of my favourites. It will always have a place in my heart. I used to come home from work and start the game and the starting sound - Uuuuuuuukami. I can never forget.

There were just too many games.. Hack//G.U., Burnout series, Soul Calibers, Devil May Cry 3. Combat Zero.. SotC, Kingdom Hearts 2, WWE etc etc.

I could never get into the GT4 back then probably because it was sim and I'm used to arcade racers. I seriously got into GT5 on PS3 only after i bought myself a Logitech GT wheel.

Clearly I didn't think twice about buying a PS3 thanks to PS2. And a PS4 thanks to PS3. It just seemed like a logical step. And thank you kid, who ever you are.

Wow, that's almost unbelievable...

Time just goes by so fast, and now I just feel so old...

The Playstation consoles make it always difficult to create a list of their best games since there were so many and especially so many unique ones.

When I think at the Playstation 2 though, a few games come into mind right at the second I was thinking about the console.

WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain
The King of Fighters XI
Tekken 5
SoulCalibur III
Dark Cloud 2
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Deception and the surprising awesome Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks which was one of the best 3D beat'em ups ever made.
The Dynasty Warriors series, especially DW 3 and 4 and also the 2nd "Warriors" Series with Samurai Warriors 1+2
Silent Hill 2

deaddragonz3102d ago

Here Comes the Pain!! I played that game probably 18 hours straight for days, since I got it at Christmas!

Heyxyz3102d ago

I second @deaddragonz, ten years ago Here Comes the Pain was my life.

It's sad that modern WWE games can't be as good. I honestly have no interest in the "sport," so when the games went south (peaking with WWE '12 and continuing to this day) the franchise had noting left to offer me.

Hoffmann3102d ago

Yeah, I bet the most of us wrestling and wrestling game fans can agree that both the wwe itself and also the games are not so fun currently and HCTP was the probably best wwe game by thq /yuke's

Seems 2k16 is a bit better than the last games at least

WalterWJR3102d ago

Still playing my original phat PS2 to this day.

CobraKai3102d ago

Lucky, mine died. Had to slim it up.

TWB3102d ago

Im playing (and trying to keep alive) both of my PS2s because now is pretty much the best time to grow your PS2 collection. Games are easily avaible in bargain price.

I have probably over doubled my PS2 collection during the last year.

Remembering Medal Of Honor: The Forgotten Master Of WW2 Games

Ibrahim from eXputer: "The Medal of Honor franchise was once the crown jewel of FPS war games, later defeated by the tides of time and poor development."

banger883d ago

They tried to turn it into Call of Duty and it killed it off. They should reboot it and go back to it's roots. But they'd ruin it with online-only/multiplayer style bullshit so why bother? I have very fond memories of these games, but this series can stay dead as far as I'm concerned.

FPS_D3TH2d ago

Was literally just thinking of this game the other week with the secret nut cracker mission and the shooting Bismarck dog lmao. Loved these games as a kid

PrecursorOrb2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I wish they’d remake warfighter

Strictly for the campaign

The_Hooligan2d ago

I have fond memories of playing the Medal of Honor Breakthrough MP Demo. It had two maps and custom servers. Living on campus, I had it downloaded on one of the PC Lab servers so I could access it on any computer at the university. Joined a clan and made friends that I still keep in touch with today.

8 Years Later, It's About Time Sony Revives The Rest Of Ratchet And Clank

Hanzala from eXputer: "On this joyous 8th anniversary of the Ratchet and Clank reboot, it's about time Sony considers reviving the originals to complete the saga."

shinoff21835d ago (Edited 5d ago )

It's not the ideal situation but Sony does offer them on ps plus. I to would just like a big ass compilation on doscto though

Insomniac roadmap leaked a while ago and they are making another, they’re doing the best they can and these games, especially the last two, are master pieces

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC5d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos4d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga4d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer5d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6025d ago (Edited 5d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya4d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde4d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP4d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
