5 steps to getting the perfect username

Sarcastic Gamer writes:

"Step 1 - Keep it short

No one likes a long username - they're hard to remember, take a long time to type in and are often hard to read. I'm not suggesting that you have a username that's shorter than 4 characters, but for usernames, shorter is always better. I would say 10 characters is an absolute maximum, but 6 or 7 is where you should be aiming for. If you can think of something shorter, then go with that.

Step 2 - Make it abstract

A common mistake people make when picking a username is trying to name it after someone or something else. I don't care if you're Just Cause's biggest fan..."

I thought it was going to be dumb, but all good points. makes me feel good about my username :P except maybe the spelling (everyone forgets the "u" I think) and the fact that its a play on my last name (O'Rourke). and that means something to me but not to anyone else so I guess I'm good.

PSN - Rourker

Short, no numbers, no spaces, easy to spell, and one word. Plus, it means something to anyone that sees me over in the forums.

matt19913699d ago

my last name is O'Rourke

Rourker3699d ago (Edited 3699d ago )

that is very comical, perhaps were related :P. you weren't perhaps born in 1991 and then got lost in a wall-mart at the age of 3 never to be found like my little brother Matt? thats a joke

iamtehpwn3699d ago

you can't forget it.
Tis also my PSN. Give me an Add if you got the Balls to do so.

My PSN name is LONGDONGKILLA... just because I can. After dealing with the Nazi's that make you change your XboxLive account names I wanted something stupid and childish just because I finally was out from under the thumb of MS.

From wikipedia: "A covenant, in its most general sense, is a solemn promise to engage in or refrain from a specified action.

More specifically, a covenant, in contrast to a contract, is a one-way agreement whereby the covenanter is the only party bound by the promise. A covenant may have conditions and prerequisites that qualify the undertaking, including the actions of second or third parties, but there is no inherent agreement by such other parties to fulfil those requirements. Consequentially, the only party that can break a covenant is the covenanter."

My covenant, as it were, is to be true to myself and my beliefs. Contrary to what some have said to me in the past, I did not get my username from a certain alien race...I was using it years ago on Rotten Tomatoes, long before I bought an Xbox.

As for my Xbox Live tag: Well, I'm a huge Galactica fan, and Col. Tigh is one of my favorite characters. When he had an eye torn out in Season Three, the name just popped into my head: One Eyed Tigh. Funny thing was, I wanted to go with "One Eye Tigh," but someone had already taken it (LOL), so I just added a "d."

I believe the most salient use of "covenant" actually derives from ancient Jewish culture whereby God made covenants with his chosen people (Noah, Abraham, David, etc).
