5 Cancelled Games That Could Have Been Great

EGMR writes: "Nobody wants to see cancelled games, especially when they end up being tragically heartbreaking stories. Whether a game is cancelled because of a business decision, development hell, legal drama or just bad timing, it’s never easy to swallow.

"However some cancellations hurt a lot more than others, and in this feature we’ll visit five cancelled games that seriously had the potential to be great, but have left us with little more than heartbreak and videos of what could have been."

The story is too old to be commented.

Half-Life 3? lol

Perjoss806d ago

Don't think it was ever even announced. We are kind of still due a Half-Life 2: Episode 3 if Valve stick to their original plan, but that seems very unlikely.

Half-Life 3 may never happen, but it doesn't stop me from dreaming...Also Star Wars 1313.

Hopefully Prey 2 gets resurrected. Maybe Machinegames?

Also Agent hasn't been cancelled yet.. It'll happen sometime in the distant future :3

It's been 8 years since the announcement and not a single word or screen shot or leak....it's been long dead just like Half-Life 3, time to accept it. I hope Prey 2 gets resurrected and says close to the space bounty hunter game we saw in demo.

it wasn't even Prey 2, they should have given it another title anyway.

Agent isn't cancelled. They're looking for developers for an asynchronous coop stealth experience. In Agent we were going to be spies going around the world with espionage and crazy stuff like that. I don't know if the game is still called Agent, but Rockstar is clearly still working on it.

The last guardian....answers your question

I've always been under the impression that the guts of LMNO, at least the FPS Parkour elements, went on to become Mirrors Edge. There's been a tonne of examples in the industry of a game that started as something and then became something different.

Carmageddon is a good example, that started out as a Death Race 2000 game but they couldn't secure the licensing rights (please, nobody bring up that miserable modern reboot of Death Race)

Hell, even the playstation is an example of something that started out as one thing and then became something totally different. We'd be in a very different world today if Sony and Nintendo never came to odds with eachother XD

StarCraft: Ghost anyone? :)

Batlefront 3 also springs to mind, not this new DICE one though, I think there's leaked alpha footage on youtube and it looked pretty cool.

Ghost was created by Nihilistic. It's probably for the best that the game was cancelled as it would have been another pile of garbage.

TheLoCoRaven806d ago

I don't think the Resistance on vita was complete crap, but the CoD definitely was.

Pintheshadows806d ago

Vita Resistance wasn't complete crap, but it was crap. Good riddance to Nihilistic. Or whatever they changed their name to.
