Media Create has published the latest Japanese hardware and software sales.
Looks like Japanese consumers are holding off on getting PS4s till the October 1st price cut
or just aint bothered and prefer Wii U.
The wii u is holding its own in Japan but it was out like 15 months before the PS4 so it will inevitably fall behind since not as many people have a PS4.
@ Concert Yeah, but the first year didn't have anything that could push the Wii U's sales beyond the obligatory early adopters, so that head start doesn't count for much, if anything. At the moment, the Wii U just simply has more games that Japanese gamers like, and there's definitely going to be more people wanting it as time goes on. I don't see the Wii U falling that far behind, if at all, within the next few months.
@wonderfulmonkeyman Yeah nothing. Except, you know, Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter at launch, two of the biggest series in Japan. The Wii U's been behind almost all year despite having Splatoon which was the biggest console game this year until MGS. And that's my point. Even though it has more Japanese games, it's still selling worse for the year. Why? Because it's been selling twice as long.
@Concertoine Because Nintendo is the only one releasing retail games for the Wii U. Only Taiko Drum and Yokai Watch Just Dance are the only third parties retail games. Then you have Mario Tennis Ultra Smash Genei Inbu Roku #FE Star Fox Zero Pokken Tournament Zelda Pikmin 4 left for Japan. Nintendno is handling the Wii U themselves versus all the third parties games on PS4 yet still manage to be in the same range weekly minus the big games drop such as MGSV and DQH in the 10-20k.
@Otaku I know why. I really dont need you to tell me that as if it validates or invalidates anything.
@Otaku: WHO is releasing the games is irrelevant here. The point is that the console isn't selling, and with it having been on the market longer than the PS4, it's likely to begin slowing down first. Factor in the third parties that don't seem to be that interested in the Wii U, and the idea that Nintendo's console will stay competitive isn't such a strong one.
@Spotie Being on the market longer doesn't matter at all to Japan period. Games sell console No games releases the consoles will not sell enough as would have if did have games releases almost every week. 3DS isn't selling as well as it is because it been out longer. It the amazing exclusives library of games with many from Japan biggest IPs. No games releases = no improvement in console sales I thought this was common sense regarding media create. I guess common sense isn't common.
PS4 sales really dropped off, MGS V really only managed to make a small blip in the grand scheme of things. Sort of disappointing really. I am sure the price cut will help boost sales.
The price cut is why sales dropped.... The PS4 weekly sales haven't gone below 10k since last year, clearly they are waiting to get it at the more affordable price
if you say so.
@Neonridr Thats what Mediacreate said during the past years. The PS4 usually averaged around 10k per week. But now its below that for the very first time in a long while. Its normally to think its due to the price cut because usually demand plummets right before the price cut is made. Thats due to consumers wanting to wait a little more to buy the system at a cheaper price. But like i said before lets just wait to see the numbers during the week of the price cut to see what really happens.
The price cut is about to hit. That's why.
yep, we will see how much of an effect the price cut has.
Honestly the price cut is not such a big deal. Stores have been offering the ps4 at close to the price cut price for months in Japan. The price cut just makes it official. I can see the ps4 dropping below 30 000 yen. It is already only 4000 yen more than wii u with no games.
@benji "With no games" lol sorry dude you cant win this. You gave yourself away.
I mean a basic wii u is 32,000 yen with no games packed in. The Ps4 is 35, 000 yen. Actually, the ps4 is really limited for games in Japan. Now that Persona is looking like a second half of 2016 game there is almost 6 months before we see the Yakuza games and Dark souls 3. That is a long wait. Ps4 will get a boost from Pes 2016 next week, but then it will be a cold dark winter.
@Benji If the PS4 with LITERALLY more than TWICE the exclusive games as the next leading competitor, is a "cold and dark winter" I hate to ask what the other consoles state is. We are getting so many exclusives that to suggest PES is the only thing to look forward to, can only be spoken if a person is unable to see that other people might like things he doesn't like. For example, we are getting Disegea 5 this very month. Then there is 3 Dragon Quest games: Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Builders, and Dragon Quest Heros. We are also getting the Original Gravity Rush, followed later by Gravity Rush 2. I mean there is so many games on PS4. And these are just the ones I remember/know about. Between now and then we are also getting PSVR along with 10 games at launch, which you know is going to be enormous in Japan. I mean there is literally a new game announced every other day. Besides, your comment is assuming that the Japanese only like Japanese games.
3DS is still crushing everyone. We know what Japanese games want.
Nintendo and Sony is what they want. Pretty obvious from looking at the numbers from mediacreate.
