Super Mario Maker is not enough to save the Wii U, according to game analyst.
Who said it was? How come every time a Wii U game launches, we have an article stating the obvious. No one game can save a console, hence why Nintendo has released plenty of quality software for the Wii U so far, with still a few more on the horizon. We all know that the Wii U is on the downhill journey of its lifespan - Every Nintendo console minus one (Wii) had a 5 year life span. Thus we will most likely only have one more year of software being released for the console with devs having already shifted focus towards the NX that will release most likely in 2017.
It was a good ride. Glad to be part of it. Some of my favorite games this gen were on wii U. The right move to make is to hang onto it after it's over. In 10 years people will be clamoring for these titles with extreme nostalgia sad they missed out when it was still going on and top 10 lists of this gen singing these titles' praises.
Then ride is not over yet. There are still plenty of games I want to play. Heck X is huge. Fatal Frame looks interesting. StarFox hopefully will be more polished with the added time. Also we have Zelda! Nintendo also announced a new Pikmin(still have not picked up 3 yet). I do not think NX will release till 2017, so I am sure we will see a couple more surprises for Wii U...just please Nintendo NO AMIBO BOARD GAMES.
NX will release in the Holidays of 2016 and the only retail releases for Wii U in 2016 will be Pokken Tournament and Star Fox
Yes the handheld version of the codename NX that is. If Nintendo is going that route.
Its still an exceptionally great game that will continue to entertain people for years to come. At this point no one game can save Wii U
According to Pachter?!? Then the Wii U is saved!
Does anyone expect Wii U sales to quadruple at this point? Nintendo certainly doesn't. Just be happy there are still some interesting games being released. If you like the games, sales don't matter.
According to Hoffmann nothing can save the wii U and thats why the NX will be released in 2016 worldwide already.
NX isn't coming that early. I'd say 2017 at the earliest. NX is more than likely a code name and not the final product besides, they said they will TALK about it. Talking about a console and releasing it are two different things. Stop believing everything you hear
I bet 100 Bison dollars that it is coming next year.
I'll totally take you up on that. At best a handheld will be released next year, not the NX. Nintendo is on a 5 year cycle and with the steady income of amiibos and 3ds. Nintendo is not even close to hurting enough to make that kind of decision.
There's a misunderstanding. 'Save' from what? The WiiU tried something new with the controller. It provided HD and, in Super Mario World 3D, a game that make lovely use of this. Super Mario Maker is an intuitive looking , fun, game. Some of its games, especially Mario Kart 8, have a huge attach rate (50% in that game's case) and make a profit, partly because there are so few other games on the WiiU as competition but partly because of their quality keeping the price up. This has not gone unnoticed by some of those who haven't actually bought the WiiU. The WiiU's innovations will be rewarded on the NX if the NX can be affordable and not underpowered nor undersupplied with memory. It doesn't have to have games that are utterly contrary to Nintendo like Grand Theft Auto (I still can't believe that they allowed Manhunt 2 on Wii) but it should have some mature games like Dishonored 2 which are clearly fantastical. It should also have the best third party family games such as Kingdom Hearts 3.. All of these need unique features to the NX to make people want to buy them on the NX. And promote the fact that you're the only TV console where you can play online for free as I hope you will still be.
Its a strange one for me with the WiiU. I love the console as the Nintendo IP's are 2nd to none on it. Pikmin 3, DK, Mario 3D World, MarioU, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Mario Maker, Zelda WW, Yoshi Woolly Land, Captain Toad, Nintendo Party U, are just a few of the games I can think of off the top of my head that I own and I have loved everyone of them. Ive not had a broken game too. Don't get me wrong the PS4 and Xbox one has some great games too Forza Horizon 2 being the pick of the bunch for me but I do think Nintendo are the best when it comes to 1st party games and this is the reason they can carry on as their games sell well look at Mario kart for example I cant think of a Microsoft or Sony IP that can match the attachment rate to the Mario kart games on Nintendo consoles. I do hope Nintendo can turn things around with the NX though but I don't want them to go down the wii rout as I was not a massive fan of the console. But that said its still a little bit of time before we see the NX and I am hoping Nintendo can give us some ips like fzero, Mario Football and Zelda for the WiiU before its put to the end of its life.
agreed, well said.
This needs to stop. A new game doesn't mean they are trying to save anything. Nintendo is supporting the Wii U so fans and people who bought it won't be peeved that they spent +300 dollars on a console. They are trying to maintain consumer trust for future consoles. Wii U will never gain as much traction as PS4 or XBONE and even a hardcore Nintendo fan such as myself has accepted that reality. It's all about the games and experience. Not who's trending Nintendo fans wanted a game like this for decades so quit raining on our parade.
We live in a world where only things that are the same, popular, trend and in everyone homes matters. Anything that is different is irrelevant. Well as far as America goes yes being different is a bad thing.
This is such a stupid article, ignoring the software and handheld sales that have made Nintendo number 1
And if not the sales, then the profits from everything combined. Nintendo's not in dire trouble just because the Wii U isn't meeting unit sales targets. 10M in sales and rising at its current price is still making Nintendo a nice chunk of change.
Umm no shit? What does "saving" even mean anyway Mr. "Analyst?" Last I heard, Nintendo is making a profit off every WiiU sold, and their software always sells well.
