Two year’s later, Online is now the default GTA game as the single-player dream dies.
mostly because gamers upgraded from 360 and PS3 to current gen games (like me), and we finished the SP on last gen and skipped the SP ... But I might play the story just for fun :D
they just need to make these entirely separate games tbh. GTA Online's potential is too massive for it to just be focused as a multiplayer portion of a game. And GTA Single Player needs revamping and focusing as well.
I still haven't completed the story... Online was just too much fun.
Im never able to beat Rockstar's single player modes very quickly. Red Dead and GTA 4 took me yeeeears to beat, and even though it felt worth it in the end the whole process of driving around listening to the same dialogue repeat itself and shooting some crap just felt monotonous. And pretty much wll the games have the same "American Dream is dead" theme with some eccentric characters and some straight faced ones. But i love their multiplayer modes. Always have.
Years? Are you exaggerating?
Im really not. I got red dead in 2010 and maxed in multiplayer before i beat the single player. I dont think i beat it until 2012.
I haven't beat the story of any GTA game :/ every time I try playing I get distracted by how much fun it is to just cause havoc, so I end up killing people and running them over for about an hour then get off. Probably the farthest I got to was about 30% done in GTA4
Still haven't completed Read Dead either...
I have played through the story twice making different decisions about how to pull of the jobs, and who to kill. Once on ps3 and once for the remaster. I gave the online a brief play, but wasn't sold on it. I am a predominantly story mode player in its defense.
I preferred playing the Story Mode more than Online. GTA V Online is full of Juvenile Delinquents playing out their fake wannabe gangsta persona online. I've had fun in private lobbies, Heists etc ..but it seems the more people you have in a lobby, the longer it takes to get things going. I loathe sitting in lobbies waiting on people because of interuptions like phone calls, and awful music some people play in their home is so irritating when it's coming through headsets. Online is good, don't get me wrong, but it can be so disorganized and obtrusive too. I miss 4 controllers plugged into a console and actual friends would be in the same room with banter and jokes!
"but it seems the more people you have in a lobby, the longer it takes to get things going. I loathe sitting in lobbiesOnline is good, don't get me wrong, but it can be so disorganized and obtrusive too" Wait is that still a problem with GTA 5 as I hated that in GTA 4. I still haven't played GTA 5 and I wanted to finally try it.
Some days good, some days terrible ...you need a lot of patience to play some games online /
The game is two-years old, Rockstar needs to move on and quit milking Online. I'm sure a lot of you who just picked up the game on current-gen or PC still think it's fresh, but from an outer perspective, the game is dragging out. It's sad that story DLC will most likely not release, especially considering how great Episodes From Liberty City & Undead Nightmare were. So much wasted potential for the singleplayer, all thrown away for the sake of GTA Online's playerbase. GTA Online, evidenced by Rockstar's recent statement regarding their core staff working on it, is holding back other Rockstar North projects to some degree, especially the story DLC in this case, which probably won't release anytime soon. Or ever. Think about it, do you really think Rockstar has incentive to invest in a costly story expansion when they can make far more money releasing half-assed updates for another shark card to be sold? Probably not. GTA Online was overly ambitious, and Rockstar takes too much pride in it. I'm certain GTA 6 will focus more on its multiplayer; expect a GTA Online 2, and not a fully realized GTA 6.
you can't milk your own game's online mode
I need to try the online stuff again. I got bored with it pretty fast. I prefer messing around in the solo world that's more populated. Too bad you can't bring a friend into that world.
GTA 5 is far from dead on PC. The mods keep getting better and better. Although, I think most people (Like myself) are awaiting Los Santos Life. An online mod inspired by Altis Life for Arma 3, which will be insane once it's released.
Not to be a buzzkill, but a mod like that will never release. Not anytime soon, at least. Rockstar is making it their mission to protect GTA Online. Dedicated servers, servers needed to run a mod like that, aren't functional in the game. Rockstar will ban anyone using dedicated servers to host an online session, even if it's using singleplayer code.
Oh it's definitely a ways off that's for sure. But if people can make a an online component for Just Cause 2 that has no MP what so ever, a massive community like GTA's can surely put together something in due time.
"An online mod..." Stop right there. Rockstar will kill that shit before it happens.
I just wish that they released GTA Online as a separate download. I've always associated the GTA series as a single-player experience and seeing Rockstar focus solely on the Online component really bums me out as there is so much potential for single-player aspect that is just wasted. The Ballad of Gay Tony from last gen is one of the best pieces of DLC I've played. It's too bad Rockstar won't release anything like that for GTA5
I could live with that. I loved the campaign in GTA5, but online is what keeps me coming back. Offline play has gotten stale.
I've played GTA Online since launch and I can guarantee I've spent more time waiting in lobbies than actually playing anything.
Okay this article is just wrong in every sense, but opinions like this are why we've had such a lengthy delay for a core feature advertised since Grand Theft Auto V's announcement. You just keep rolling with their excuses, don't expect them to deliver. Shark cards were and still are a dick move. For the first year I had /some/ fun with GTA Online, but most of my friends really didn't feel the magic after eight months. I appreciate the free bits and pieces, but they wanted heists more than anything (which the online model gravitated towards). When 2014 rolled around they either stuck to single player or moved onto other flagship titles. Grand Theft Auto V's single player feels entirely disconnected from the online, and that is bad considering the predecessor followed a much simpler online model. I don't consider GTA:O the same game at all.
Yay!!, Rockstar is probably getting ready to do Red dead or Gta6.
I like GTA online, but I suck at it. I get killed so much it's ridiculous.
I'm pretty upset to hear about this! I've grown up with GTA, I love the single player stories! I was looking forward to some amazing story DLC, proper expansion quality content, now It's just lazy cash cow F2P content :'( GTA Online was nothing but a bit on the side, you could tell with the deep of the content at release. Its still a buggy mess! I really hope Rockstar surprise us with story DLC
I cant play GTAV Online, too many trolls trying to shoot people and messing up other peoples funs ;-; like there was one time im driving the streets of los santos, and then some reason there was a player on the roofs spray shooting everyone, and i tried to get out of there, but no, he got a car, and just blew up my ride and killed me along with it D: Wtf you son of a bitches!
GTA V has online? Lemme guess.. bunch of people running/riding around shooting each other, right? I'll stick with the story mode
you're doing the same in single player too.
That's not the only thing people do in the single player. Bro do you even glitch run?
Yeah... but I'm also following the story, acquiring property, side missions, etc. Glitch running doesn't sound like anything I want to do.
true, but the only difference is, you won't have some asshole coming up to you with a car to kill you and make you lose the fun out of your immersive time
Obviously this is a long investment for Rockstar. They can bring in Single player DLC when they want because they know it will sell.
I personally really enjoy GTA online. And I cant complain because they're constantly updating it with new missions, weapons, vehicles, clothing, etc.. If you can jump online with some friends it can be one of the most fun online gaming experiences yet. One thing I hear a lot that drives me crazy is that I hear a lot of players say they never finished the story in a GTA game because they got too distracted running/driving around causing havoc and killing pedestrians. I can understand how fun that is, but by just doing that people are missing out on some great story writing, hilarious dialogue, interesting characters, and some very fun and challenging missions. I mean, the way you play a game is all up to you, but GTA games have so much more to offer than just running over pedestrians and stealing cars
Yeah, no. I'm the total opposite. I just can't get into gta online
GTA Online is the reason why we won't be seeing GTA 6 in a lonnnnnng time. It was fun while it lasted but I hope it dies out soon. Hell, we won't even get story DLC (confirmed not so long ago by Rockstar) because the online is apparently generating a lot more revenue than expected (shark cards yeahh! I still scratch my head at people buying those). They also affirmed that ALL key members that originally worked on GTA V are working on GTA Online. How depressive is that? So keep doing the same missions over and over and don't forget to buy some shark cards in the process.
Honestly,I wish RS would sell GTA online as a stand-alone game for like $29.99. I don't really feel like putting down another $60 just to play online on the new consoles.
If they compromise single player quality for online, then my love for this series will RAPIDLY drop. The money-making machine that is online is honestly holding back great single player experiences imo. Rockstar is one of the few who can truly excel at both, and I hope for their sake that they continue to make single player great.
Still have not played it yet I am waiting for a cheap price ha ha .
Watch this in the meantime: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
